Intel Announces New X-Series High-End Desktop Processors And New i9 Line

At Computex 2017, Intel made a series of major announcements regarding their latest high-end processor offerings. This included the introduction of a new X-series of processors which are designed to be the company's high-end performance platform for ...
Do you know what microprocessor the computer you're using has?

Do you like it? Or are you willing to pay for superior performance?

18 cores, $1999, seems a bit ridiculous

Reminds me of the razor that, instead of a single blade, has 5. Most people don't need it. LOL.

A lame attempt to take away focus from AMD and Ryzen.

Intel does not have a response to Ryzen, so they go and "make" a bigger more core processor for the "high end".. yea right. This is a small market due to the price..., which is funny enough Intels problem these days... Ryzen is a deadly competitor due lower price but similar performance...

The 7740 and 7640 just seem like the 7700 and 7600 ported over to a different socket. I really don't see why they wouldn't just keep them in the current socket which has a much broader userbase.

The high end, as usual, is absurdly priced. The mid-range (well, mid-range of the X-series "enthusiast" processors... still very high end!) has one that looks decent, though: the 7820X is 8c/16t much like the Ryzen 1800X, $100 more, and will significantly outperform the Ryzen chips. (better IPC, and skylake overclocks better than Ryzen does)
