German Chancellor Angela Merkel says that Europe can no longer rely upon the US and Britain as partners:

Merkel: Europe can no longer rely on US and Britain | News | DW | 28.05.2017

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Sunday that Europe has to forge its own path forward, as the United States and Britain were no longer reliable partners.

"The times when we could fully rely on others have passed us by a little bit, that's what I've experienced in recent days," she said while speaking at a campaign rally in Munich.

But what' does Frau Merkel mean by Europe forging its own path? Europa Uber Alles?

Can she really get Europe to toe her line? We can see the tensions that have resulted from German coercive attitudes towards Greece. When Trump asks NATO countries to pay up, he gets demonized as a devil, but meanwhile Germans aren't going to let Greeks get one red cent without paying their dues, even if it raises the latter's suicide rates and has them queuing up at soup kitchens. I don't think Trump has asked anything nearly as severe in his speech to NATO.

The flippant hypocrisy is on full display by these Eurotrash nematodes. Demand we babysit their economy and military and if they don't get what they want, say that the U.S. cannot be relied upon as an ally. They're practically begging the U.S. to hold Putin in check so that he doesn't eat their lunch.

There are a lot of us that figure it is high past time for Europe to stand on its own. Europe has relied on the United States for its security since the end of WWII. It was understandable when it was west vs. east, the U.S. and it allies vs. the USSR and it allies. The USSR is no more, the Warsaw Pact is no more. But NATO still exists with the U.S. picking up most of the tab.

With the breakup of the USSR and the disbanding of the Warsaw Pack, NATO accomplished its mission. The cold war is over unless those who want to bring it back, does so. It's been over 70 years since the end of WWII, it is high past time for Europe to stand on its own. We don't need to be the world's policeman anymore.

There are ways to ask for your allies to increase their military funding without signaling to our adversaries that we might not be so reliable any more.

SCROTUS has no concept of such things. Loyalty to him, but not loyalty from him.

I'm sure she and other European nations will have no problem building up their own armies then right?

I'm glad Trump refused to confirm if that he would sign on to the most recent climate change rules. Europe NATO members have had over 50 years to meet their 2% spending obligations and most of them just can't be bothered. So the same would happen with any deal we have with them. They're too lazy, feckless, and untrustworthy to uphold their end of any bargain of any kind.

Trump said a lot of stupid things directed at Germany, the German people being bad, etc. It is very concerning that our biggest allies have lost faith in us, because of who our current leader is.

And to all the Trump supporters and defenders, even if you think Trump is making a point about NATO payments, etc. Trump is not handling the situation like a coherent person at all, and that is cause for concern. Just look at Trump's track record in the US. He can't get anything done for whatever reason. He is man of words, not action. His base loves the rhetoric and insults, but that is all he has to offer. Trump's behavior, and what this could cost the US in terms of international standing, relationships, and world peace, is actually dangerous.

If I'm part of an agreement and somebody isn't paying their fair share then it's perfectly coherent to say pull your weight. The idea that Germany and other Euro-socilaist parasites have the gall to say the U.S. and Britain cannot be relied upon when it's most NATO nations who have shown to be untrustworthy shows that most of Europe may in fact be: parasites that don't kill the host at best, to traitorous scumbags who need to be taught a lesson at worst.

It's high time we start testing the waters to see what kind of friendship can be forged with Russia if this is Germany's response.

Obama was caught spying and tapping tapping the phones of our Euro friends

So much for loyalty from that scrotus............eh?

As I said in the other thread GOOD.
Good luck to the Germans, third time is s charm

What's your point? That two wrongs make a right?

The only path Europe is forging right now is one towards destruction.

So long as the EU whores keep welcoming uneducated and uncivilized "refugees" in by the hundreds of thousands every year, Europe is going to do nothing but head full speed right into a brick wall.

I'm sure she and other European nations will have no problem building up their own armies then right?

Not Germany. They'll need the money to feed the welfare baby that's gonna keep growing and growing and growing so long as they keep up with their "welcome all" attitude towards refugees.

What's your point? That two wrongs make a right?

You never held Obama to the same standards of loyalty and you know it. We have a history of spying on our European friends, so pretending that a lack of loyalty is unique to Trump is dishonest from the get go.

That's what happens when you try to help people out. Pretty soon your charity is looked upon as entitlement.

NATO members should pay their fair share.

Besides, America needs the relief so we can give our filthy rich people more tax breaks.

Trump is himself of German descent - don't you remember all those "Herr Drumpf" ethnic jokes made against him - next you'll tell me that Eisenhower was prejudiced against Germans too.

I'm not sure what your reply has to do with SheWolf's post.

Your double standard is on full display. Please try again.

NATO members do pay their share. They owe America nothing.

On,y 5 of the countries paid the agreed 2%. Everyone else was less than that and Germany was at 1.2%.

So no they didn't.

That is ridiculous. If and when Germany decides to rule the world again we will be there to save Europe. If I was Putin I would be a lot more worried about Trump than the wishy washy democrats that we have had lately. Please.

Yes they do. The 2% target (recommendation, NOT requirement) is timed for completion by 2024. The money goes into the collective pot to run NATO, it's not owed to America.

Last years goal was 2% of GDP. Only 5 countries met that goal.
The US was at 3.38%.
With 23 other NATO countries not meeting their agreement others had to pick up the slack.
