8 killed in Mississippi shootings - CNN.com

CNN)A sheriff's deputy and seven other people were shot dead overnight in southern Mississippi, authorities said Sunday.
Authorities identified Lincoln County Sheriff's deputy William Durr, 36, as the slain officer according to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
The MBI said the shootings started around 11:30 p.m. at an address in Bogue Chitto, where the deputy and three females were found dead.
Another crime scene was found in Brookhaven, where the bodies of two boys were found. There also was a third crime scene, where a man and a woman were found dead. The identities of the other victims are pending notification of next of kin.
A man identified as Willie Cory Godbolt, 35, of Bogue Chitto, was taken into custody and was being treated at a Jackson, Mississippi, hospital, for a gunshot wound, the MBI said.
Bogue Chitto is an unincoporated part of Lincoln County and Brookhaven is the Lincoln County seat, about 60 miles south of Jackson.
The MBI said its agents and Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies and the district attorney were investigating.
I really do not know what to say.
My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of those murdered

We really need to start questioning why people with multiple felonies are out of jail to commit these crimes.

Figure out how many prisons you have and then at least multiply by 5 or 6 that number and this would be the min needed.
Next the US has the highest incarceration rate in the world

So stop putting people in jail for marijuana and keep people like this in. Fine by me. Also, I much prefer people to stay in jail for violent felonies than get out so that they can commit more violent crimes.

The USA also has the 3rd highest population in the world. All the best intentions of solving criminality issues go nowhere when a society doesn't plan for its future very well.

The shooter was later found to be white.

Nope.

Willie Corey Godbolt, 35, was taken into custody and being treated at a local hospital for a gunshot wound, Strain told NBC News. Officials did not say how Godbolt was injured and charges have not yet been filed.

I'm also curious as to why you necroed Erod's comment from almost a year ago, to put on your thread here? Doesn't look very honest IMO.

Because of stupid laws... not because of actual crime that merits prison. Weed is one perfect example. For profit prisons is another.

And we would be down the list more if some ****hole countries like China did not allow killing the first born female daughter which still happens and India did not allow gang raping teenage girls as a punishment to the girls family for something she had no control over or if Russia followed pretty much any laws... all one has to do is watch their crazy driving videos to see the lawlessness of that nation.

Another day, another act of senseless violence.

My condolences to the victims.

So it goes

the shooter admitted he wanted to commit suicide by cop. Yet he killed the deputy that came to investigate first. He has been charged with one count of capital murder and the other counts are first degree murder. Given his admission, is there any reason to drag this out for 20 years? but given he seemed to want to die, lets give him life in solitary confinement

I was only commenting on the senselessness of the act.

arm more potential victims so they can kill scumbags like this when they attack? I agree with you, tax cheats, ponzi schemers, bad check passers, etc shouldn't be in jail. They should be working off their offenses.

Willie Godbolt was shot -sadly not fatally. so its going to cost us a ton of money to deal with that idiot. I have yet to hear the extent of his prior record.

Post 16 for the first gun nuttery. Not bad. Usually when some one dies, gun nuttery happens by post 3. Keep dancing on the graves of dead people to push your agenda, no one will be turned off by that...

Of all the people fatally shot by the LEO community, and this one slips through, there would not have been a peep!

you are being silly and over-reacting. I am not doing what you claim and your post is idiotic.

According to this video, this murderer was a Democrat.

I'm not at all surprised by his political affiliation.

Questions pls
Fed or State?
Reasons I ask are, States- in 1 State a violent felony could be classed as a certain type of misdemeanor in another? Yes- No
Going by memory on a case I recall
Southern State -Not picking on a particular State -IIRC - charge was manslaughter- found guilty- sentenced to 20 years- Judge suspended the sentence. Is that possible?
Me I am off to bed, we are on differing time zones, so take your time to reply.
