Jared Kushner and Russia’s ambassador to Washington discussed the possibility of setting up a secret and secure communications channel between Trump’s transition team and the Kremlin, using Russian diplomatic facilities in an apparent move to shield their pre-inauguration discussions from monitoring, according to U.S. officials briefed on intelligence reports.

Kislyak reportedly was taken aback by the suggestion of allowing an American to use Russian communications gear at its embassy or consulate — a proposal that would have carried security risks for Moscow as well as the Trump team.

Current and former U.S. intelligence officials said that although Russian diplomats have secure means of communicating with Moscow, Kushner’s apparent request for access to such channels was extraordinary.

“How would he trust that the Russians wouldn’t leak it on their side?” said one former senior intelligence official. The FBI would know that a Trump transition official was going in and out of the embassy, which would cause “a great deal” of concern, he added. The entire idea, he said, “seems extremely naive or absolutely crazy.”

The naivete and stupidity of this administration is astonishing. Perhaps their best defense strategy at trial will be to claim they're all idiots.

Is this why 45 wasn't ready to say he'd support Article 5 and his declaration that NATO was obsolete?

Re: Russian ambassador told Moscow that Kushner wanted secret comm. channel with Krem

With each passing day it becomes more and more obvious to any rational thinking person that this man Trump must be removed ASAP as he poses a huge danger to our nation and to the world. This latest news clearly establishes bad intent and trying to hide something going on with the Russians.

The hostility of the American Elite to Trump is well documented. The Willingness of the DC Elite to spy on Americans is well documented. The willingness of the DC Elite to violate the Constitution is well documented.

This was a reasonable request.

Sure, because Obama and his ilk would surely have killed any deal they found out about, which we know by how they have acted since We the People picked Trump. Any deal done with Putin would have needed to be negotiated in secret.

I'd want a secure channel to speak to foreign countries too. As exemplified by the Manchester investigation, our federal government can't be trusted and people should be free to circumvent them in any way possible within the law.

A secret channel to the Kremlin is reasonable?

This is hard to ignore. The drip, drip keeps going. How can anyone deny that there is a there there.

Your comprehension is A+ today.

Trump was trying to do a huge deal with Putin so that he could step into office with a bang...something on Europe or Ukraine or Syria or North Korea...something on that scale.

It was the right thing to do.

Russian Once Tied to Trump Aide Seeks Immunity to Testify Before Congress

By BARRY MEIER and JESSE DRUCKER

Oleg V. Deripaska, a Russian oligarch once close to President Trump’s former campaign manager, has offered to cooperate with congressional committees investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election, but lawmakers are unwilling to accept his conditions, according to congressional officials.

Mr. Deripaska’s offer comes amid increased attention to his ties to Paul Manafort, who is one of several Trump associates under F.B.I. scrutiny for possible collusion with Russia during the presidential campaign. The two men did business together in the mid-2000s, when Mr. Manafort, a Republican operative, was also providing campaign advice to Kremlin-backed politicians in Ukraine. Their relationship subsequently soured and devolved into a lawsuit.

Open minds are good except when it appears that those not alarmed by these events might just have a hole in theirs.

Senate Intelligence Committee requests Trump campaign documents
By Robert Costa May 26 at 7:03 PM

The Senate Intelligence Committee, which is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race, has asked President Trump’s political organization to gather and produce all Russia-related documents, emails and phone records going back to his campaign’s launch in June 2015, according to two people briefed on the request.

The letter from the Senate arrived at Trump’s campaign committee last week and was addressed to the group’s treasurer. Since then, some former staffers have been notified and asked to cooperate, the people said. They were not authorized to speak publicly.

The demand follows a Senate request months earlier for the campaign committee to preserve documents.

Dozens of former staffers are expected to be contacted in the coming days to make sure they are aware of what they are required to produce and how to submit those documents, the people added.

The letter was signed by Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the Senate committee’s chairman, and Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.), the committee’s ranking Democrat. Spokespeople for Burr and Warner declined to comment.

Manafort is pretty sleazy...he is also pretty irrelevant, he was not around long and did not matter much when he was.

I guess I gotta use this again:

I know Trump, he had nothing but the best intents, and nothing has turned up which I had not long ago expected...in many cases written about right here at DP.

Now for folks who are sure that Trump has bad intentions things look different, but see this is where it pays to understand Trump.

For those few who care about the truth anyways.

Wow, that's pretty amazing that they could predict the future like that. If they had that much insight and foresight about Washington, how did they come off as completely unprepared?

So you're saying that you understand 45 and if true that there is a close and covert operation with the Kremlin, then it's okay?

Yesterday I made it my official position that Donald Trump is an agent for Russia. A lot fewer people laughed at me than I actually expected.

A secret channel to the Kremlin is reasonable?

Yes. When the federal government is literally willing to leak information as a form of sabotage.

Wait, our biggest foreign adversary, Russia, requires a back channel communication to our president...amidst the enormous unfolding Russian intelligence operations designed to compromises the U.S., because they can be trusted more than our federal government?

Why not just wear a T-shirt that reads "Treason is the new Patriotism".
