HAGERSTOWN, Md. – A senior at a Christian high school in Maryland will not be able to walk at graduation because she is pregnant, WHAG reports.

Maddi Runkles, 18, has a 4.0-grade point average, is president of the student council and an officer of Key Club.

Despite all of her accomplishments, the school says she cannot walk in the ceremony on June 2nd because she broke the student pledge of abstinence.

The stupidity of this is breathtaking. No doubt they will also punish the boy? Oh wait.

Seems like it's a private school, so I suppose that was within their rules.

I went to a public high school and they didn't let any pregnant girls walk either, pretty standard IMO.

Perhaps they would have allowed her to if she had agreed to hang a sign around her neck with the word "whore" on it.

A bit dramatic, I think a letter sewn onto the gown would suffice

Remember kids that every whore is a slut, but not every slut is a whore. I think you meant slut.

She's lucky that this isn't 18th century America. The Christians would have locked her up in the town square in a stockade and pelted tomatos and eggs at her.

yep when I was in high school 2 girls got pregnant they sent them home for home schooling when they started showing. they were allowed back after the baby.

She agreed to the rules of the school and knew them while she was there.
her dad was on the board of the school.

he knew the rules as well.

funny how people don't like rules when they start applying to them.

May I ask what year that was and what state?

They can make whatever stupid rules they want, and this is a stupid rule. I'm sure everyone crossing that stage has "sinned". The ironic thing is if she had gotten an abortion secretly she could have walked across the stage at that so-called "Christian" school.

So, do you believe it's your right to enforce your personal values upon a private academic institution, and those that voluntarily choose to associate themselves with it?

Should those associated with the school tell you how to comport you and your family's lives, in your private activities?

It's a private school with rules that the students and parents agreed to. She broke the rules and now she bears the minor consequence of breaking those rules. As far as the father is concerned - Is he a student at the school as well and thus subject to those same rules?? If so, then yes, he should bear the same consequences for his choice as well. But with NOTHING to indicate that he was a student there, you jumped to a conclusion with ZERO merit. That reflects more about your chauvinism than anything else.

Not even then... They would have pulled the couple off to the side and put plans in place for their wedding.

Good, maybe her and her family will reconsider their religion.

Having sex with a boy that does not love her is pretty stupid

Maybe she will reconsider the anything-goes message of the wacko leftwingers
