The president vowed to block German car exports to the U.S. during a meeting with top EU leaders on Thursday, according to reports from German news magazine Der Spiegel.

"The Germans are bad, very bad," President Trump said, according to participants in the room who spoke to Der Spiegel.

"See the millions of cars they sell in the U.S., terrible. We will stop this."

Love or hate Trump, He's willing to call his enemies out on their turf and not just on twitter. Americans don't need BMW's. We can do just fine.

Most German economists I know and many of the politicians realize that the German trade balance is not sustainable, that international security costs money and that they have not been paying the share that their relative wealth and dependency on trade warrant. Many also recognize that they have dumped the costs on their economic competitors thus gaining an advantage.

The problems are that they have nurtured a set of beliefs in the population that are pretty much the opposite to the point that the people identify themselves as wise because they avoid costly policing activities and active peacekeeping, while they are proud of being "Exportweltmeister" with huge trade surpluses year after year.

So, while the economic political elite understands the unsustainability of the present situation politicians selling the story the voters want to hear have prevented much necessary change. A lot of the problems of the Eu are closely related to the structural export surplus and the other Europeans are pushing for a solution.

Well, Obama could have told them the sorry story that the US taxpayers cannot go on footing the bill for international security nor continue to support the Germans' obnoxious trade surpluses any more than the other Eu members.

Funny how you Cons lost your minds for 8 years saying how Obama was alienating our Allies. But now you don't care that Trump is flat out pushing them away. Funny how many Cons defended VW when they cheated on emissions tests.. But there was a different guy in the WH then. Let's see if the Cons defend VW and our 'German allies' now. I KNOW they won't. Their Dear Leader called them 'bad, very bad'.

The Germans have been exploiting a weak Euro for years now, at the expense of other European economies and their exports, so yea Trumps right.

Germany also takes advantage of the fact that the Euro's value is fixed accross all EU Nation members.

If Germany had its own soverign currency, its boom in exports would be offset with a increase in the value of its currency, which would cool the demand for German exports and allow other member Nations to compete.

Also , Germany, like other European Nations and Canada, also gets to spend their money on experimenting with Socialism while the US spends a substantial portion of its budget building and maintaining a Military large enough to counter the Russian and Chinese threat to Western Europe.

I don't see any video or audio quotes from trump calling germany his enemy

But they are not paying their fair share to NATO even as they demand that trump protect them from the big bad russians
