Trump reportedly calls Germans ‘very bad’, threatens to end German car sales

Ummm...what are you talking about?

I thought this was about German automakers?

Those companies like BMW profited and helped fueled Hitler and his regime.

Those companies like BMW profited and helped fueled Hitler and his regime.

But what does that have to do with today?

Trump was talking about German automotive companies...not Hitler.

Furthermore, Trump is himself of German descent - how can he be racist against Germans?

Don't you remember all those "Herr Drumpf" ethnic slurs that Lefties used against him - or are those conveniently forgotten? They were even used on this forum.

Trump's mad at Germany because Der Spiegel wrote a scathing piece and put it front and center. It basically called for the removal of Donald Trump from the White House because he is a dangerous and stupid man.

The fact that our allies are saying they can't rely on Trump or the US is dangerous and scary. WTF. How can anybody support this man right now.

Enemies? How the hell are German carmakers 'enemies'?

They make a product that Americans like - so the latter buy them because they like them better than American cars.

That is called 'free enterprise'.

How the hell does that make German carmakers 'enemies'?

BMW did not put a gun to American consumers' heads. American consumers chose to buy the BMW over a Cadillac or Lincoln.
If anything, it is the American consumers who are the 'enemies'.

So are American consumers your 'enemies'?

This kind of stuff causes me to question if the values of the GOP are way out of alignment with their voters. The voters put in a guy who doesn't believe in free markets. The voters also seem ready as ever to stand behind the government while Trump calls the media "the enemy of the people." Where is the small government and free market values in the Trump era?

Question, what did Obama do to stop the Russians? Absolutley nothing!

The sanctions Obama applied are indeed hurting Putin. So much that he has meddled in our elections and bought off our leaders in attempt to end them. He will fail.

Trump is an American.

OK, but if you tax cars made here (by a foreign parent company) the same as imports (cars made over there by a foreign company) then why would a foreign company make them here? Having half of the pie (US jobs and the taxes and spending which those employees provide) is better than having none of the pie. The lower that US corporate/business taxes are (Trump's stated plan) then the less that is lost (and the more that is gained) by having more of those foreign companies move more of their production here.
We, or more precisely you are veering into policy debate and that is not the topic here, but lets just for a bit think about Microsoft Windows. Ever think why the rest of the world is not making their own operating system? How about applying that to cars. There was a time when American, owned and made, cars had no match everything else being inferior. Why have we fallen from that position?

The long history of supporting the Nazi regime is troubling. I appologize if that seems I need to let go but its somehting you cannot erase.
Then don't buy ford or GM

They have plants in murica??? I thought they were all or most made in mexico Because every time I see a vw or bmw for repqair it says made in mexico.

BMW does not yet have a plant in Mexico one will come on stream in 2019 or so

Might just be thinking volkswagons, truthfully even the american made ones are subpar, neither country understands german engineering, their quality is much like what we would expect for fords if germany started producing f-150's, the engineering and manufacturing is far from what is the norm in that region.

The topic is not about cars (hardware) made/sold in the US but it is about computer operating (software) systems? ;)

We have not fallen because others make and sell a competing motor vehicle product here. There was a time when US cars and trucks had no serious competition here but you would be hard pressed to say that a US car of that era was better than a modern vehicle made by many others, including those in the US, today. In a global economy you must evolve and compete not only here, protected by goofy tariffs and union shill politicians, but with everyone.

Great post, imo.

I could not agree more.

No that is not the question. Keep in mind that this is not about economics. I was asked a simple question as to how do I define non-American cars. That is all.

You and the President seem to want to simplify the thing beyond sense.

Don't be dense. It was an analogy. If you can not grasp that I can not help you.

Right, it is because they make them better.

There was a time when US cars and trucks had no serious competition
Like Windows...

here but you would be hard pressed to say that a US car of that era was better than a modern vehicle made by many others
So what made those others advance and the US not?

Perhaps if you had not chopped the post to which you replied off:

then you would see some of those factors listed. Another factor is making them to last - they will sell less cars if they last longer. For example, using sealed wheel bearing assemblies makes them cheaper to make and faster to service but they must be replaced since they cannot be greased (maintained).
