Report: China cripples CIA operations, kills informants

By Associated Press
May 21, 2017

WASHINGTON — The Chinese government “systematically dismantled” CIA spying operations in China starting in late 2010 and killed or imprisoned at least a dozen CIA sources over the next two years, The New York Times reported Saturday. The newspaper cited 10 current and former U.S. officials, who described the intelligence breach as one of the worst in decades. They spoke on condition of anonymity. The report said U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies scrambled to stem the damage, but were bitterly divided over the cause of the breach. Some investigators were convinced there was a mole within the CIA, while others believed the Chinese had hacked the covert system the CIA used to communicate with its foreign sources. The debate remains unresolved, the paper said. The CIA, which declined to comment to the Times, also declined to comment Saturday to The Associated Press.

As many as 20 CIA sources were killed or imprisoned in China over a two-year period, the Times said, citing two former senior U.S. officials. Investigators suspected a former CIA operative of being a mole, but failed to gather enough evidence to arrest him and he is now living in another Asian country, the report said. Those who rejected the mole theory attributed the losses to sloppy American tradecraft in China. By 2013, the FBI and CIA concluded that China no longer had the ability to identify American agents, the Times said.
Another aspect of the intelligence wars we usually are not aware of. In one instance, I've heard that the Chinese shot a suspected CIA source in front of his colleagues.

If anyone thinks Chinese spying is innocuous, this is proof that it isn't.

Two years after Obama took office, they got the data, then started killing. Obama had to know, and he should have told China we will repatriate them to the USA or bad things would happen to your trade balance. Instead, Obama stood by and let it happen. We have Chinese to exchange, or we could have scooped some up.

Proof? I don't need proof - just swap out Trump's name for Obama, and I'm golden.

So they got Seth Rich'd?

If these were Americans spying in China you would have a point. Countries trade captured spies semi-regularly. But these were Chinese citizens giving information to America, usually for money. They were traitors, not spies. We don't typically trade traitors.

It happens from time to time.

But that is still a case of America trying to get its citizen back. When we trade spies it is usually us trying to get our citizens back. An American who goes to another country to collect covert information is a spy. Often times the spy obtains information by paying local sources. Those local sources are traitors to their country.

Likewise, a Chinese citizen who comes to America to covertly collect intel is a spy. The Americans who give him intel for money or due to blackmail are traitors.

We will trade our spies, but we punish our traitors. Whether Bergdahl was a traitor or deserter is a different matter. He was an American citizen on US government orders who had not yet been convicted of anything. We had an obligation to get him back. And the people we traded him for weren't traitors to their side either.

As long as a micro gps was inserted into a butt cheek on those guys I have no problem with it. Hellfire them later when they go to a club meeting.

I think all traitors should have their sexes changed and be forever named Chelsea 1.0, Chelsea 2.0, etc. on down the line.

We really have to take traitorous activity seriously. It is not a game.

It seems the 'how' did China learn specifics of the CIA operations in their country, is something which is not quite known or understood.
But let's be fair here. We know that the smashing of it began in 2010, two years after Mrs. Clinton was confirmed as Sec of State and two years into her using her home brew personal server to conduct USA foreign policy. We don't know the nature of thousands of emails that travelled through it, but we do know that foreign intelligence agencies could and did break into it.
The question has to be asked...
