Russia probe reaches current White House official, people familiar with the case say

Re: Russia probe reaches current White House official, people familiar with the case

And let's not forget, all of this within one party! One controlling party!

Just imagine if Trump faced an opposition Congress like Nixon did? He'd be on the train for Leavenworth! (alright - metaphorically - but he would be under far more severe and intense investigation and subpoena)

The office of legal counsel opined that a sitting president cannot be indicted. If Mueller respects that opinion (he may or may not), then, provable crime or not, our national security will be at the sole discretion of republican self-assessment.

Based on my personal experience, i find that fact rather terrifying.

The thing here F & L, is during Watergate there was nothing as wide ranging as this. It was a simple domestic B & E, followed by a cover-up. There were no foreign entity aspects, to Watergate. No international money trails.

And Watergate leaks were more limited and more constricted in source. What we're seeing now is unprecedented --> leaks from everywhere, all the agencies, within the White House itself, etc. It's above and beyond Watergate.

I just hope all these leaks are legit, rather than hyperbolic Trump resistance. The Fourth Estate is seemingly very much alive and functioning, but there can be danger in how it's wielded.

One other major similarity to Watergate (and other similar, if smaller scandals) is that Trump's people are lying even when they don't have to, about seemingly things seemingly tangential to all this.

You can continue to live in this bubble of denial, or wake up and see what is happening. First, most of the stories that Trump has declared "fake news" have turned out to be true.....

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-shown-to-be-accurate/?utm_term=.4c43bda276d9

Given that, we have come a long way in 120 days...from the largest inauguration ever attended (I have no supporting links, so trust me, it was huge), to the POTUS admitting he fired the FBI director because he was investigating the Trump campaign, to a special prosecutor being appointed, to the "I" being tossed about (even on the other side of the aisle)..... all on your fantasy that there is no substance to this reporting.

At this point, Trump can not govern. He is so mired in the swamp of his own making that its time for you to wake up and seriously wonder if there is something wrong, if there is something you are missing (like a credible POTUS).

He is unstable. He is stunningly ignorant of world around him. He is incredibly impulsive. He is reportedly unwilling to take advice. He doesn't seem to understand that actions have consequences or he simply doesn't care.

My god, even NATO nations have been briefed to try and keep their presentations to him under two minutes; not to present him with thick folders and files but rather single sheets of paper with pictures whenever possible; to praise him on his election and to give him small "wins" so that he will feel that he negotiated successfully.

This is the kind of person most of us don't trust. This is not a man who is the "leader of the free world". Indeed, if Trump is doing anything he is convincing other nations that the US is sliding rapidly into mediocrity. The pressure on Congress, from within the US and beyond, to seriously consider Trump's cognitive functioning will eventually force the GOP to evaluate his ability to govern. Trump will give Congress ample and obvious reasons to consider it.

It is all on the GOP, all of it. In an effort to avoid a midterm beatdown the GOP controlled Congress will act. It is probably too late for them. Nonetheless Trump will never finish his first term, even if he isn't impeached and indicted. The best the GOP can hope for is to somehow talk him into resigning.

Yes, you are correct in that a sitting President is thought to be unindictable.

And yes again, impeachment is a political solution, - not a legal one.

There really isn't much you can do with a sitting President. The People put him in, so he's in.

That's the absolute arrogance of many of the billionaire and political class.

They are used to their money and power privileging them above the law of the common folk.

It's been Trump's privilege from the cradle, and his m.o. all his life. Why should anyone be surprised? He campaigned on those attributes!

Re: Russia probe reaches current White House official, people familiar with the case

Yeah, it's starting to get slanted his way in the media, too. To be honest, a week or two ago there was hypothetical surmising that Kushner, by the very nature of his business and travel operations, would be the most likely Trump associate to get in the sights of the investigations.

Re: Russia probe reaches current White House official, people familiar with the case

Interesting, from your article:

"It said investigators remained keenly interested in people who previously wielded influence in the Trump campaign and administration but are no longer part of it, including former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort."

Not news, but essential affirmation of paths we surmise ...

The person of interest might be on Air Force One right now as it heads over Switzerland.

Hilarious!!!!
