Trump Tweet Suggests His Conversations With Comey Might Have Been Recorded

Trump destroyed American democracy with that tweet. No one in US government can assume Trump won't tape them or worse and blackmailed to shut them up. No one in any Trump property including Mar-A-Lago will be comfortable saying much of anything other than talking about the weather.

By his actions Trump has informed all US government that if Trump feels threNtened or concerned he might just blackmail them to shut them up. That cannot be denied. It is out there now. Add to that the fact that Trump is impulsive, doesn't often rely on facts, doesn't often listen to the calmer more professional WH advisors, is paranoid and is vendictive and apparently unable to control his anger.

That kind of madness and intimidation is what we expect in authoritarian countries like China, Russia or North Korea. Now we have every reason to expect it in the US government. That is the new standard and democracy withers under such intimidation.

The Trump Tapes are legal* but they belong to us.

It's time for them to be released. The committees investigating the Russian issue should subpoena them immediately.

*Unless they weren't legal.

Ok, So, in the case that the WH is taped when conversations go on with the President, then they remain part of the record...Got it....As for the "one party" rules that apply to you and me, I'd say that the President would have a pretty good work around for that....Just sayin'....You know, two sets of standards of law for those elite government officials, and you and me....

Indeed, but the more exciting part is that there may be Trump Tapes. We'll see how extensive they are.

I'm sure the Comey conversations are interesting, but this potentially opens up a whole new universe in this inquiry: if he recorded conversations with Priebus, Bannon, Flynn, whoever else, that's all fair game in the ongoing investigations into this White House.

Indeed. Self-preservation wisdom will also be employed by foreign officials visiting Trump and his White House. With Trumps public threat to blackmail Mr. Comey, foreign dignitaries and their emissaries certainly won't be speaking forthright and frankly with this paranoid megalomaniac.

Oh, there was no threat....That tweet was a troll to the media, and the haters....You fell for it.

Ok, legal eagles in here, what are the in's and out's with this? Is it legal? Is there a problem here? We don't need this complication...

And please, before the usual haters chime in and spew their uninformed hatred, I'd beg that I'd like this to be a civil conversation about the legality, thanks.

Sarcasm seems legal.

Jmac, you don't think that tweet sent a horrible, problematic message to the rest of government agency?

And Trump had this to say on Fox regarding taping: "Well that I can't talk about. I won't talk about that. All I want is for Comey to be honest."

Perhaps he won't talk about it because Russian photographers might've left bugs in his office...and all over the WH.

The thing is...everything he says or tweets can be used against him in court. For instance, the high courts are taking into consideration the comments he made during his campaign about Muslims to see if his travel ban EO violates the first amendment.

Yeah, I think it was the ex deputy director of the CIA who was less than impressed with the decision to let them into the oval office.

Yeah, well, some day he's going to pay the piper, and...all...of these absolutely hilarious troll tweets are going to be used as evidence in impeachment proceedings.

Way past time to 'come out' of the 'centrist' closet! 'Come out, come out, wherever you are!'

Claims to be "slightly conservative": demands that all state laws be uniform. lol u!

If only the wonderful courts had been as vigorous for the previous administration

No more problematic than say, "Fundamental transformation"

Making assumptions ( you know about those) and putting words in my post. Get away with much of that in four years? Lol back at cha!

So you got thoroughly schooled and somehow it's still Trump's fault. Can't make this stuff up. You Trump haters aren't a self-parody, this is something entirely new.

The only time the word 'all' appears in my post is in 'all states' regarding a uniform law as to two party conversation recording. The rest of the post is included and please show me where I am blaming DJT for anything. Use of the words that are absolute (ex: ALL. NEVER, ALWAYS )etc and adding words and meaning to a debate tend to weaken the position of the one that employs the tactic. Schooled!

It used to be that supporter of the President had blinders on, but those blinders have slipped and now serve as eye patches. Blind support is not how The US was ever supposed to operate!

If I worked in government agency, I would not say anything more than, 'nice weather out today.' to donald trump, ever...

if i had to conduct official business, i would bring my attorney with me and 1 witness.

trump is setting up land mines in government..

yeah people love being threatened to be extorted with "tapes"

A couple fun facts to consider in light of any future impeachment proceedings:

1) Interviews and tweets will be used as evidence of intent. Think on that.

As an example of this, remember that one of the central reasons his Muslim Ban was blocked was repeated public statements entered into evidence that the ban was deliberately and specifically aimed at Muslims. Trump supporters, not being the brightest lads on the block, believed that a "cleverly" worded executive order without that language would pass Constitutional muster, all the while hilariously forgetting that intent expressed outside of such bills and orders are considered by the courts all the time.

Therefore, tweets and interviews over the course of the past week will be used as demonstration of intent that Trump was committing obstruction of justice.

2) If it is indeed true that Trump has been taping his conversations (and by now it's a super safe bet that it is), remember that any such recordings are the property of the United States and subject to government record keeping laws. How good do you feel about what may be in those recordings?

This is why after five months I'm finally using the word "impeachment." Trump has been digging his own grave at such a rapid pace it's gone from "if" to "when."

Day 113: We're discussing whether it is okay that the president secretly taped the director of the FBI and is now threatening blackmail.

This is normal, right?

This is something that all the states should be consistent on.

Don't play "lean police" with me and you won't be thoroughly humiliated like this.
