Trump says he wants Russia investigation 'done properly,' was going to fire Comey 'regardless of recommendation'

Trump says he wants Russia investigation 'done properly,' was going to fire Comey 'regardless of recommendation' | Fox News

President Trump said Thursday that he wants the FBI investigation into possible ties between members of his campaign and Russian officials to be "absolutely done properly," shortly after he called it a "made-up story" and "an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election they should have won."

Trump also told NBC News that he had decided to fire FBI Director James Comey before he received a recommendation to do so from a top Justice Department official.

Damn, this changes things. Guess Dems need a new strategy.

Perhaps you haven't seen MOJOMIKA today. They're freaking out. Mika's got it sussed. She said Trump cut off his own team at the knees.

IMO Trump knows that he is innocent regarding allegations of collusion with the Russian's election shenanigans. He's just tired of it dragging on and stirring up conspiracy theory controversy.

When was it that those "15 Intelligence Agencies" came out with the claim they had hard evidence the Russian's were doing the DNC hacking and other actions trying to influence the election?

So if Trump et al were actually involved in some tangible way...how is this not clearly and decisively revealed by now?

I'd fire Mr. Comey anyway, as a loose cannon; but IMO even he should have been able to clear up any Trump ties by this point in the investigation.

And yet interfering with an ongoing investigation is a serious matter. Even if one if "tired" of it.

The investigation is based on the "Golden Shower Dossier". So far the Carter Page accusation in the dossier and the Mike Cohn accusation have been proved to be false. Some of the other accusations are so absurd that they're not even being discussed. Also, people have completely lost perspective that this "intelligence" was created as a piece of paid opposition research and was originally ordered by Republicans.

Like most scandal pieces there is likely an element of truth. I have no doubt, for example, that the Kremlin had a file on Trump. The guy has been in the public eye for some time, does business internationally and ran for president back in 2000. I also have no doubt that Russia preferred Trump to Clinton as the winner of the election. I have no doubt that Moscow absolutely loves the idea of chaos in DC. None of that, however, is evidence of collusion between Trump and Russia to influence the 2016 election.

Um...what? The White House admitted Comey was fired because of the Russia investigation. His comment also makes a lie out of the pretext given just two days earlier.

Bull****, I saw the interview. Saying he thought about it isn't the same as making it the cause for the firing. And the investigation continues. Has it been stopped? Yes or no?

The breaking "Indictments coming next week!" was, what, a month ago?

Obama had cause to fire Comey, Trump had cause to fire Comey, Comey has been fired.

Comey's public escapades over the last 18 months has made it politically difficult for either Obama or Trump to fire him since either would draw suspicion from the opposition. Trump has more balls than Obama, who knew?

Yeah, people conveniently avoid the fact that the Carter Page warrant was built from the discredited, wholly political oppo report.

Yes it is. And you know it.

You wishing it so, doesn't make it so.

Re: Trump says he wants Russia investigation 'done properly,' was going to fire Comey

Just to remind everybody how brutally the White House contradicted its own lie that firing Comey was for anything other than the Russia investigation...

"I think the bigger point on that is, my gosh, Tucker, when are they going to let that go? It's been going on for nearly a year," she said on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show. "Frankly, it's kind of getting absurd. There's nothing there. We’ve heard that time and time again. We’ve heard that in the testimonies earlier this week. We've heard it for the last 11 months. There is no ‘there’ there."

"It's time to move on, and, frankly, it's time to focus on the things the American people care about," she added

Recounting his decision to dismiss Comey, Trump told NBC News, “In fact, when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said, ‘You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made up story, it’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won.’”

The White House said Thursday that removing FBI Director James Comey from his post may hasten the agency's investigation into Russian meddling.

"We want this to come to its conclusion, we want it to come to its conclusion with integrity," said deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders, referring to the FBI's probe into Moscow's interference in last year's election. "And we think that we've actually, by removing Director Comey, taken steps to make that happen."

Please explain the logic here.

Trump says he wants the Russia investigation 'done properly,' so he fires the guy doing the investigation -- all while claiming the Russia connection is a made-up story.

Think me cynical, but the actions are more akin to someone who wants to hinder the Russian investigation and not do it "properly."

Correct. By allowing politics to enter into the investigation, Comey removed himself as someone able to accomplish the task.

With Democrats calling for his removal, resignation, etc., and Hillary just last week telling an audience she blamed Comey, in part, for her loss, it's interesting how now Democrats are screaming foul over removing someone Schumer claimed he had no confidence in.

One would think they are doing so just to make noise, given such actions scream extreme hypocrisy and destroy any credibility they have on the issue.

Re: Trump says he wants Russia investigation 'done properly,' was going to fire Comey

Trump fired Comey with less tact than you'd treat a stray dog who ****s on your lawn.
He fired him via TV.
He tweeted nationally that Comey was a showboat and a grand-stander right after firing him. <- The biggest asshole to sit in the whitehouse, you mother****ers

He asked for the phony recommendation for deputy AG, and initially said he was following that recommendation.
Then he had his mouthpiece claim it was because the FBI rank and file had lost confidence in Comey.
He finally fessed up and admitted that was all bull****, and he wanted to get rid of him for some time now.
Then he adds that yeah, I want to see the investigation done right?

And we're supposed to clap our hands for Trump? You guys aren't patriots, you're saboteurs and you know it.

I'd like more details about the Carter Page warrant. That sounds interesting. I did not know a judge signed off on a warrant for Carter Page. I'm curious what they were looking for and what they found or did not find.

EDIT: I misread you. No mention of a warrant. Still curious about anything you have on Carter Page.

Given how much time he spends tweeting about how he has nothing to hide, we should probably conclude he has nothing to hide! That's totally how innocent people act.

He hasn't been acting or leading as the head of an investigation org. He's acted like a prosecutor, like a DOJ attorney. He didn't do his job last year on the Hillary case.

Assuming "guilt" in many matters is a common Progressive trait. Progressives tend to presume racism, sexism, xenophobia, classism, and all other manner of "guilt" in those who don't agree with them.

I don't "assume" innocence.

I "presume" innocence.

I am a firm believer in "innocent until PROVEN guilty," as opposed to the contrary "guilty until proven innocent."

This sentiment certainly wasn't in vogue with Trump and his supporters regarding Hillary Clinton. "Lock her up" was a fire-and-brimstone staple at every campaign stop.

It's still bandied about ad nauseam.
