Travyon Martin Will Receive Posthumous Degree in Florida

You would be shocked to find out that when you click the link to a story instead of just reading the headline it will take you to a page with symbols that further describe the headline. In it I found these incredible tidbits:

An announcement on Florida Memorial University's official Facebook page says Martin's parents, Sabrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, will accept the degree during a May 13 commencement ceremony. Fulton graduated from the Miami Gardens university and, along with Tracy Martin, co-founded the Trayvon Martin Foundation.

The university's statement says it will honor the steps Martin, who was 17 when he died in 2012, took toward becoming a pilot.

Apparently there are some folks that thought of him as something other than a thug and as an actual human being that had value.

Hey! Come on now. The cute little fella was at the top of his class when he was so cruelly cut down by a society that hated him merely because of the of the color of his skin. This degree represents the struggle that all people of color experience in this hate filled, white nationalist nation.

Right on bro!

No justice, no peace

So, the kid wanted to do something productive with his life. Seems he wasn't quite the thug some people made him out to be afterall.

A thug with pilots wings

Thats something you dont see every day

It could add fuel to the leftwing attacks on cops that was started by obama when he was president

Cool story, bro.

I feel no animosity toward Martin. I still think the jury made the right decision on Zimmerman but I sincerely wish their altercation had not been deadly for either one. Had Trayvon been a student at that school or even about to start classes there, I could understand and would likely have thought it a nice gesture. This just seems so random.

I agree on all counts.

To show how much they CARE... about a thug who died a thugs life. Thugs matter yo.

the only thug was Zimmerman and he got away with murder.
but now he is paying his dues as his life is over at this point.

he had more run in with the cops after that.

Cool story, bro.

It is a long running saga 8 years and counting that began when a nutty black professor at harvard was arrested by a hard working white cop who was just doing his job

Perhaps someone should design a Hoodie... TM hoodies... "dat nickel got wings Yo!"

Trayvon Martin has achieved something that many Americans have not done. He worked hard at it and he got his degree completely debt free. It just shows that if you work hard, you can do it too.

Yes, you are SOO right, actually Zimmerman pulled Trayvon on top of him, and started hitting his own head into the ground just so he could "get away with murder"! Rofl, T. Martin was a thug, and he died a thug and the world is a better place without him in it.

It's a nice gesture to recognise a young life cut short and robbed of its potential - whatever that was. I think only a racist or a total misanthrope would have a problem with it.

Honoring a criminal is a nice gesture? How about honoring this guy?
Laurence Turner His life, was cut short, by some old guy with a gun.

yes I am.

I would defend myself against some guy that was following me at night as well.
Zimmerman was the instigator. He had no evidence that anyone was doing anything wrong.

He followed martin throughout the neighborhood.
If I was martin I would be very suspicious of some guy following me around.

when he couldn't get away from Zimmerman he defended himself.

yes Zimmerman got away with murder for instigating the entire thing to begin with.

really what did he do other than walk home from the grocery store and get shot?
some criminal

The kid is dead. His parents will grieve for the rest of their lives. The kindness they were shown is meaningful to them.

Really? Do parents who have lost children want their kid to receive honors they didn't earn? I'm not in their shoes but I would be insulted by the "gesture." I reminds me of participation awards which I find insulting as well.

In one sense, confessing that you would attack somebody for walking near you and talking at you provides a helpful lens through which to view your posts, I suppose, but really it's unsettling interacting with an aggressive and dangerous person.

If you attacked without provocation and died, you'd have earned your death.

Attacked and beat a man smashing his head into concrete...

I'm not in their shoes either. Thank God. But I can treat them with just a bit of compassion and not pile on insults and vitriol.
