Bounty hunters fired on the wrong car, killing father of three, police say

I suppose that makes it the lesser of the evils, then.

The amounts would just be adjusted to make them affordable for lower income people, if you do not allow bail bondsmen like most of the world, the bail will just become a lesser amount.

Almost every other nation in the world does not have that problem. If bounty hunters are required that often these people should not be released on bail in the first place or they should indeed pay more money. The courts just need to do their job properly. The entire industry is predatory. The judges have to set the bails higher because the bonds exist.

Then the left would be mind melting crazy about young minorities not being able to get bail.

What a cluster of an operation. Chasing the vehicle, still firing, placing numerous people at risk. Serious jail time should be the result.
Bounty hunters, more like band of idiots
Thoughts are?

Thoughts? My thoughts are to cancel the bond system entirely. It is an entirely corrupt system and puts a disproportionate burden on the poor. Either give the person their freedom until trial or don't.

Bounty hunters are legal? In the real world, not just TV land? That makes no sense at all.

Yes they are legal and normally they serve a valid purpose.

And I'm surprised that you've never heard of Dog the Bounty Hunter. Or did you think that his show was just a sci-fi "reality" tv show filled with actors?

But they can just set the bail lower because bonds don't exist, so instead of setting a $1000 bail with the intention they get a bail bond for $500, they just set the bail at $500.

The reason for having bonds is to encourage those people let out on bond to come back as the bond is a majority of the time provided by loved ones. If they don't come back then that money is lost. It encourages not only the person let out on bond to come back but also encourages the family members to help make sure that person comes back also. It is a necessary evil since no one can be trusted to simply come back if there are no real consequences to not coming back.

I thought it was a TV show. I didn't know there were real life bounty hunters.

There are consequences. They can be charged with more criminal violations.

If they were cops this trial would have been dismissed from the start.

Idk, it seems police depts are starting to wise up. After what happened in TX, with the sheriff coming out and saying the shoot was bad, we may be seeing the blue wall of silence crack. No one wants another riot, so I'm thinking more cops will be held accountable more often for their mistakes. At least the ones caught on video.

These bounty hunters are just cop wannabes. I know a bounty hunter, a bit of a ***** in a fist fight. But give him a gun and he's all **** n balls. The kind of guy that'll pick a fight in a stand your ground state just to shoot you or ridicule you if you don't give him a reason to shoot you. He's the main reason I oppose those laws. I don't imagine these guys are much different.

I think bounty hunting should be illegal. Its nothing more than legalized kidnapping. They are not law enforcement. Catching criminals is the job of law enforcement, not private citizens. Bounty hunters at least should not be allowed to use deadly force.

Citizens do have a right to arrest people.

Thoughts? More guns would solve this.

US Justice system sets bail high for minor offenses. That has begun to change, but in the end it is the poor/destitute that pays higher fees.

WTH? There has to be more to this story. WTH were these bounty hunters thinking!?!?

IMHO they were not, they are a bad lot on steroids.

That in itself is slowly being addressed. And yes the poor often end up staying in jail as they cannot afford bail. It has been documented that given an appearance date V bail they canot afford the vast majority of the poor appear for their court dates.

The problem is in the legislation at the State levels that needs to be addressed.
