Obama's $400,000 Speech Could Prompt Congress to go After his Pension[W:39]

In spite of Obama's $65,000,000 paycheck for writing 2 books which will soon adorn the shelves of thrift stores across the country, he's insisting on big payday speeches from Wall St. Not so fast says congress.

I'm absolutely fine with limiting an ex-President's ability to take what amounts to kickback money from Wall Street. How about you?

Damn, these people hate Obama so much that, to screw him, they are willing to screw George Bush even more. Congress doesn't have a mental disorder. Congress IS a mental disorder. LMAO.

Bush rakes in $15 million in speaking fees since leaving office: report - NY Daily News

My opinion - Obama and Bush are private citizens now. Just leave them the **** alone. LOL.

I'd have to disagree with that. Bush caused the upheaval in Iraq, which has adversely affected the Mideast, Europe and the US as a consequence. I'm not in favor of him making 1 cent off of his legacy.

These guys shouldn't be allowed to pander to big business during their time in office, and then get to hide behind the 'but I'm a private citizen' thing once they leave the White House.

The story said that it would effect all current living ex-Presidents.

The man was elected to the highest office in the country, twice, and is now going to be so rich that he'll not only qualify as being in the 1%, but actually part of an ultra rare group of 30k people ON EARTH who are worth $100 million or more.

Making any claim that Obama's life is adversely affected by racism at this point is beyond the realms of stupidity.

Hence, one reason why I didn't go there. The others:

1. As you've pointed out (and I realized after re-reading the OP article), all former living POTUS' would also be affected; and,

2. A few Black politicians (Democrats) co-sponsored the legislation.

I strongly disagree. My brother, Steve, was a First Sgt in the Gulf war, and served in the military for 22 years. He became eligible for a military pension. After leaving the service, he got a Masters Degree from the University of Florida, and ended up owning an Edward Jones in Stuart. He just retired, and draws military retirement, as well as his retirement pay in the form of bonuses from Edward Jones. He earned them both. It's the same with presidents. You don't take from them what they earned unless you are a Communist.

Of course I wouldn't begrudge your brother's service, or his accomplishments after leaving the military. I have no beef with the members of the Armed Forces, they are good Americans for the most part, who just did what they were instructed to do.

It's the leadership who put our servicemen in harm's way so that they could expand their wealth who I have a problem with.

Congress should lead by example and pass a law that makes their own pensions means tested
