Mayor Asking FBI For Help With Investigating City Crime « CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Baltimore’s mayor is asking for help from the FBI as the city struggles to contain a soaring murder rate. But will bringing in the feds stop the killings?

Catherine Pugh pulled no punches earlier this week when she said the violence is out of control.

“I’m calling on all the assistance we can possibly get because I can’t imagine going into our summer months with our crime rate where it is today, what that’s going to look like by the end of the summer,” Mayor Pugh said. “… Murder is out of control.”

Some people are skeptical that the FBI will be able to help matters.

Violence has reached a crisis level, with the number of killings shattering a 20-year high this early in the year.

Does Baltimore really expect police and FBI to feel comfortable helping them now?

They'd rather not be prosecuted for doing their jobs, thank you.

Gee, maybe if you actually try and enforce the laws instead of letting people riot and burn your city down, they might take laws seriously.

So your point is that federal police shouldn't be expected to investigate crime unless they can shoot unarmed suspects with impunity?

Oh look, you fail at understanding even a basic idea once again. What a surprise.

Oh look! A lazy ad hominem attack in lieu of rational argument!
Surprises all around...

Why should the FBI get involved with a local crime problem? That's not their role by any stretch of the Constitution unless involved in federal or interstate crimes.

From the article:

"The Bureau has 56 field offices nationwide and provides assistance in gang and drug cases.

President Trump has advocated sending in feds to stem violence in Chicago and other cities."

My feeling is that the city won't like it when the FBI comes in and can't find a scapegoat for why tons of people are killing each other in Baltimore.

Drug cases fall under federal law, and gang cases could easily be construed as terrorists, allowing them to flex their muscle. Individual cases however the fbi has no power, even pushing definitions to their extreme as a runaround to constitutional restraints of fed govt.

If it is not something they can get through drugs, or terrorism, or interstate commerce, the fbi has no real power.
