A "cyber research group" claims that France's election might be getting hacked in the same way that the US elections were.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ars-russian-fingerprints-research-group-says/

PARIS — A security firm claimed Tuesday that new cyberattacks on the campaign offices of the front-runner in France's presidential race carried digital “fingerprints” similar to the suspected Russian hacking of the Democratic National Committee and others in the 2016 U.S. election.

The report, by the Trend Micro research group, did not disclose the potential fallout of the infiltration on the campaign of Emmanuel Macron, a centrist who faces far-right leader Marine Le Pen in a May 7 runoff.

If a Russian connection is proved, the hacking would add to mounting allegations that Moscow is backing attempts to influence Western elections in favor of candidates with policies potentially more friendly to the Kremlin. Le Pen has voiced opposition to the powers of the European Union and has called for better ties with Russia, echoing some of the campaign rhetoric of President Trump.

Ohhh, of course - if the "incorrect" candidate wins, then it has to be due to the Russians. When your candidate is behind, then it's time to prepare the narrative. If people vote "incorrectly" it must be due to Russian hacking. Damn, these Russians sure do get around! They wasted billions of rubles building all those nuclear weapons, when all they had to do to conquer the world was just hire some teenagers and pay them with pizza and soda pop.:doh

Trump is Russian stooge!
Farage is Russian stooge!
LePen is Russian stooge!

So say the new McCarthyists of the 21st century.

hope tha victims of tha attack r ok and have a cuick recovery

It's nice to see journalism become the #1 source of comedy online. This is like Baghdad Bob all over again. I can't wait for WaPo's next article. Or maybe CNN will one-up this work of fiction. The Onion better step up their game because these MSM antics are pure comedy gold!

Why are you so frightened of the article?

Russia identified the weakness in America, stupid right-wingers. It appears they are targeting the same demographic in France.

Or this is the same **** made up 24 hours after the results came in. [a la Clinton campaign]

Give me a break - so why wasn't all this being said before the contest narrowed to Macron-vs-LePen? If it had been Fillon-vs-LePen instead, then you nuts would be claiming that it was Fillon hacked by Russia and not Macron, right? Pathetic! :doh

Now we need videotape to be released of Marine LePen talking about grabbing someone's *****.

He would've won too - if it weren't for those damn Russian hackers!

It really is quite amazing how quickly virtually an entire side of the political spectrum in the states went from saying that Russia was a big threat, our "greatest geopolitical foe", and that Obama was weak/ineffective for not stopping Russia....

.....to saying that Russia is our big friend and any suspicion that Russia attempted to interfere with anything is really just a big conspiracy lie cooked up by "the left" to harm the the right.

It's all a hoax because a newspaper jumped the gun?

What an incredibly stupid and dishonest post.

Not at all but Russia has to be managed. If you give them an inch they will take an entire country or a couple.
as the saying goes keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Actually, it's funnier that one side of the political spectrum in America went from wearing Che Guevera T-shirts, praising socialism, and calling the confrontation with Moscow a grand plot of the military-industrial complex, to now shrieking about "KGB conspiracies" - while continuing to wear Che Guevara T-shirts, praising socialism, and even lionizing a guy who vacationed in Moscow on his honeymoon.

It was being reported. Samples...

Jan. 15, 2017 - Putin’s DNC Hackers Actively Targeting French Elections

Jan 24, 2017 - Russia is targeting French, Dutch and German elections with fake news, EU task force warns

Feb 8, 2017 - French presidency to hold top-level meeting on Russian hacking

Feb 19, 2017 - France condemns alleged Russian cyber attacks targeting presidential candidate Macron

Apr. 21, 2017 - Facebook targets 30,000 fake accounts in France

The Russian meddling/hacking reports in France go back at least to last November. Activity increased after Trump win and with shrinking time-frame to election day.

I suspect they're the same people that are denying science. After all, it was cyber forensic science that discovered it was the Russians...not God.

"the Russians" - could've been anyone living in his parents' basement.

Or it could've been "a 400lb hacker sitting on his bed"....

Not. :lamo

Please, no more personal selfies - TMI.

Meanwhile, there'd be no reason for the Russians to leave Cyrillic lettering as tracks. That's like Israel hacking Iran and leaving Hebrew characters to be found. Silly and implausible.

No, I do not want to be distracted by that squirrel. It is pure and utter hypocrisy - dangerous hypocrisy at that - for the right to act like now that Trump is President, everything related to Russia is a hoax cooked up by the left to discredit him. It's also quite dirty given how an apparent lack of publicly available evidence is largely down to the right's resistance to any investigation.

"the Russians" - could've been anyone living in his parents' basement.

So why would Trump, GOP, and debate politics posters on the right actively resist investigation?

If you investigate and find that out, great! If you don't investigate, you don't know. I hope that isn't the point - I hope it's just the usual modern stupid miserable ****ing bull**** of "well, someone on the left said it, so we HAVE to disagree or we lose face" - but I don't know that.

You guys supported 7 Benghazi investigations that weren't even about Benghazi. They were about a damn email server and you never found any proof that anything bad happened because of it. SEVEN!

But Russian interference in the U.S. election? Yeah, not a problem. Not a problem because a right winger (ok, a fake right winger, but he said he was one so there's a need to save face again) won the election.

We no longer deserve democracy.

Yeah, well, this needs to be investigated. If it turns out to be nothing, then great, but we need to know it is nothing.

I suspect the resistance to investigation is politically motivated and not because of actual collusion, but again, we simply need to know.

Because the Dems just want a Fishing Expedition - they're trawling to see if they can turn up anything to use on Trump - regardless if it has anything to do with Russia or the elections.

This is a purely partisan maneuver.

What they're really upset about is that there's somebody in the Whitehouse with an ideology opposed to theirs. They don't want anybody with an opposing agenda to run the country.

It really isn't anything new. Governments have been trying to influence countries elections for a long time. The difference is the technology being used. I believe Russia did and will try to influence any countries election to benefit them, the same way our own government did and will try to influence elections in other countries.

In other words, not an earthshaking news event. We need to stop thinking/acting like it didn't happen here. So, the Russians tried to influence our election. And.....? Did the information they dug up change your mind on who to vote for? Sometimes you shouldn't shoot the messenger when the truths that are revealed are important.

I don't agree or condone that most governments do this, but it appears to be here to stay especially with all the technology advances made.
