VARNER, Ark. -- Two inmates received lethal injections on the same gurney Monday night about three hours apart as Arkansas completed the nation’s first double execution since 2000, just days after the state ended a nearly 12-year hiatus on administering capital punishment.

You all know how I feel about capital punishment. It's not perfect, it's applied capriciously, and, once in a while, an innocent person is executed. But make no mistake. I'm no bleeding heart. Read what these punks did, and you won't feel sorry for them either. The fight for and against capital punishment, depending which side of the issue you are on, will continue, but do not pity the animals who were put to death last night. They are not part of the debate, and frankly, I could care less about them. They got what they deserved.

My guess is that they want to avoid the issues in one execution being used to get a judge to grant an injunction. Better to get them all out of the way at once. I'd say a high dose of fentanyl would be quick, painless and dare I say, tolerable.

Can't we just put DR inmate in a metal tube, give them some air and drop them in a deep ocean point? They'll die quickly, and there will be no mess.

Actually, the best execution would be using a gas chamber.... Not the old kind, but one in which oxygen is sucked out and replaced with pure nitrogen. No pain at all due to carbon dioxide reaction because there is no carbon dioxide in the chamber, other than the tiny amount the condemned breathes out initially. He will painlessly pass out within seconds, and will be dead within 3 minutes. Some people actually commit suicide using nitrogen.

But you have to dispose of the corpse, metal tube hit's crushdepth, they won't know what happened.

Only 6 more to go?

I don't know why these lethal injection drugs are so controversial. You can do the death penalty real cheap with a large pool of water, some rope, and heavy rocks attacked to the end.

I feel no sympathy for the truly guilty when they are put to death. If there is video evidence backed up by DNA evidence etc etc and we know you did what you did then you should be put to death. My problem is that our system is far too imperfect (as they all are) to make such permanent decisions. The death penalty costs us more money and results in far more appeals etc and even then results in some innocent people being put to death. Should be abolished IMHO.
