Bernie Sanders Condemns Threats Against Ann Coulter Speech At Berkeley

"I don’t like this. I don't like it," Sanders told The Huffington Post after speaking at a rally for Omaha mayoral candidate Heath Mello on Thursday night. "Obviously Ann Coulter's outrageous ― to my mind, off the wall. But you know, people have a right to give their two cents-worth, give a speech, without fear of violence and intimidation."
. . .

"To me, it's a sign of intellectual weakness," he said. "If you can't ask Ann Coulter in a polite way questions which expose the weakness of her arguments, if all you can do is boo, or shut her down, or prevent her from coming, what does that tell the world?"

I expect the DNC to disown Bernie and sabotage him just like they did during the primaries.

Good for Bernie....now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.

I have even stopped calling him "Crazy Bernie".

For the most part.

They might, but with antifa and bamn being shielded by the mayor of berkely, who is a member of bamn, and many other cities ignoring them, and many liberals refusing to condemn their actions, bernie might make some waves for the good fight.

He is still respected by much of the left, and he is really the first high profile person on the left to condemn the actions of antifa, if he even gets 5% of liberals to agree it is a step in the right direction. Antifa works much like the kkk, hooded and they function because society rfuses to condemn them and instead downplays their actions, the kkk however went from being a terrorist organization protected by local govts to a small group that people laugh at by people who stopped supporting their cause and stopped protecting them.

As is usually the case, Bernie is right.

With Clinton Corp collapsing into incompetence and payback for their many sins....and with Obama being so lazy and thus more interested in hanging out with his kind (Celebs) than working...the DNC is in a spot you know.

Nah. Most people, including Democrats are not afraid to let people with whom they disagree speak. A college campus population is not indicative of the U.S. population as a whole. Even liberals like Bill Maher refuse to play college campuses any more because of the stringent political correctness.

Its long overdue for someone on the left to standup for speech they find unpopular. Kudos to B.S. for being the one to do it.

Not just someone...Bernie has standing in this nation on a level almost no one can match.

Not exactly but a few people besides me are beginning to understand how broken the university is, and what a tragedy this is.

It isn't university being broken it is young adults being kids. Free for the first time and destined to screw up.

No different than the reaction to sporting events. Remember the decision making part of the brain doesn't fully develop until 25.

Remember the 60's?

You mean outside of Obama, both Clinton's, and just about anybody within the DNC that holds any real clout? Let alone liberals like myself that are staunch advocates for free speech.

It's great that Bernie came out against all of this violent crap we have been seeing. Hopefully the democratic party will take notice and speak up as well.

Watch them do the exact opposite.

Why should Obama be doing anything? I think former Presidents should fade away to the background as their turn at the helm is over and it's for others to carry on.

I expect them to be silent on the issue. There a few high level democrats that understand Bernie is popular, but they have no idea why. They would be wise to follow his lead.

Same here. Big advocate for freedom of speech. And I'm personally tired of the people on the Left that try to silence others that have ideas that they don't like/agree with. It goes against everything I believe as a liberal.

Excuse me? No different than a reaction to a sporting event? Ummm....no. This is political violence, which is an order of magnitudes worse than some post sports celebration. This cuts into the bedrock of a free nation.

With as much damage as he has done to the party and to the nation you seriously want to ask me this?

Under his stewardship the party could not even beat Trump!

He owes us Biggly!

There were many people who believed former presidents should be exiled, I myself believe their politics is over, and the highest they should play is advisor to a nw administration until the new president can get his feet on the ground, and from their the former president should go off into the sunset as a civilian again.

When you are no longer president, your time is up and the person who took over steering the ship runs the show, let them run it, it was what they were elected for.
