France elections: Macron-Le Pen though to run-off, projections say - BBC News

Mr Macron won 23.7%, while Ms Le Pen won 21.7%, French TV says. The two saw off a strong challenge from centre-right François Fillon and the hard-left Jean-Luc Mélenchon, according to the projections.
The pair now face a run-off vote on 7 May.

Polls show Macron up more than 25% in the runoff. Will be really interesting to see what happens in the parliamentary elections. Presidents usually get a majority to work with, but Macron's En Marche! May have a hard time doing so.

Le Pen absolutely will not get a majority in the run-off. It's the same way with Ron Paul. He might be able to take a plurality of the split votes but in a 1 v 1 he'll get killed by coalitions.

Les Republicans' Fillon and Socialists' Harmon have endorsed Macron.

Far-right pro-Putin Le Pen would be a disaster for France, Europe, and NATO.

Let's hope, for the good of France, Macron pulls off a win.

En Marche is not really meant as a self-sufficient political party but rather as a trans-partisan platform for people form all parties to work together. Macron would probably work with Les Republicaines and the Socialists to create a government.

Maybe. He is planning to run a full slate of candidates though. There could be a really weird composition.

Just tell me please when it's over and which person - who will undoubtedly screw up France more than help it - won.

And forget the hype about the EU....it's doomed. Next year or next decade...it's toast. It is/was a none-too-well executed, nice idea. It worked fine - more or less - when everyone was doing okay economically. But it was bound to fall apart when countries started to get into trouble (like Greece, Spain, Italy, etc.).

75 to 80% voted against Le Pen.. they wont vote for her in the second round. I expect Macron to win by at least 60% of the vote if not more... it wont be close.

He won't win by 60%. That would require Le Pen losing votes. I expect somewhere between 20 and 30.

Did I say 60% points? No.. I said he would win by minimum 60% of the vote.

Le Pen would go for an Exit referendum if she could, Macron is pro EU.

The only people who really think the EU is doomed are from the Anglosphere. Most Europeans are very pro the idea and will make sacrifices to make it work.

As for the final run-off, there's no certainty but with the two defeated candidates throwing in behind Macron, it will be hard for Le Pen to win. She has tried to soften the tone of Front Nationale but it's too early for them to take the Presidency.

I've never heard it phrased that way before. When I've heard people say by X% they mean X% more than the other. Otherwise they'd say with X% of the vote to indicate what you mean.

But that's just semantics. In any case I agree with you then.

Le pen must not win. That is the only outcome I fear.

Macron needs to win.

Did a little research and Macron supports an Open door policy for immigrants.
Macron is the one who married his high school teacher who 24 years his senior. Kind of strange.
France has an Islam problem, won't be long before Muslims will be demanding a two state solution

so he still won, hillary was supposed to have easy and early win.

Not really, France has no electoral college and the opinion polls for Macron winning are far beyond any polling error. Hilary's lead was well within error.
