Key lawmakers balk at Donald Trump’s wall request

If the cngress does not build the wall there is no way to prevent 10s of millions more illegal aliens from flooding into this country

But considering the source it is not safe to assume the story is real or accurate

Of course there is.

The wall isn't built now. Are there tens of millions of illegals flooding the country?

The wall is an expensive boondoggle that will never be built. Anyway, let Trump get the 1.4 billion from Pena Nieto if he wants to build his wall.

He'll cave on the wall funding demand. Should be clear by now that his ultimatums are bluffs.

It's weird how the rabid right had such giddy predictions once the GOP got both houses and the Oval Office, but now can't seem to get anything done...

Liberals don't want Trump to get his way in Congress, but some do marvel how the 'deal maker' can't seem to get what ALL GOP politicians declared would be job #1 - repeal the ACA.... :doh

For all the votes to repeal, for all the time Congress and Trump had to come up with a plan they could agree on, we got what???

A hot mess they couldn't even get their own party to support!!!!! ya can't make this crap up! They come off looking like idiots, all that Trump talk about how easy, how cheap, how tremendous the new healthcare plan would be...

As another poster noted, trump appears to have been elected a lame duck from day 1.... :peace

Why is it Trump's responsibility to control the legislature?

You won't blame Trump for anything. A leader should be able to lead his own party.

Unlike you I wont blame bim when the congress fails to do its job

But how desperate is trump for a victory?

Getting the taxpayers to fund his wall after repeatedly lying about Mexico paying for it wouldn't be much of a win.

And the first ever failure of a unified government to keep itself open would be devastating. He'll blink, as he always does.

Trump won't say if he'll sign funding bill without border wall money

04/23/17
President Trump in a new interview refused to say whether he would sign an upcoming spending bill to keep the government running if it does not include funding for his proposed wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. His political opponents do not want the wall and are digging in against including funding for it in a bill to keep the government funded past its April 28 deadline. Trump initially promised that Mexico would pay for the wall, though that country has said it will not. But when pushed to say whether he would force a government shutdown over the issue, Trump declined to answer. I don't want to comment. "I just don't know yet. I mean, I have to see what's going on. I really do,” he told The AP. White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney last week offered Democrats concessions on ObamaCare payments in exchange for border wall funding. The office of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) dismissed the offer as a “nonstarter.”

Seems to be a game of stare. Who's gonna blink first?

Tough one! Who will blink first?

US President-elect Donald Trump said the decades-old "One China" policy is open for negotiation, a month after raising doubts about his commitment to it by taking a call from the Taiwanese leader.*
[3 weeks later:] By backing down in a telephone call with China’s president on his promise to review the status of Taiwan, President Trump may have averted a confrontation with America’s most powerful rival.

But in doing so, he handed China a victory and sullied his reputation with its leader, Xi Jinping, as a tough negotiator who ought to be feared, analysts said.

Top White House officials descended on Capitol Hill Thursday night to personally deliver President Donald Trump's ultimatum to House Republicans: Negotiations on their health care bill are over, and the House will vote Friday.

Then, there was this: If the bill doesn't pass Friday, Trump is ready to move on and Republicans will be "stuck with Obamacare."
[4 days later:] Just days after President Trump said he was moving on to other issues, senior administration officials said they still hoped to score the kind of big legislative victory that has so far eluded the White House. Vice President Mike Pence was dispatched to Capitol Hill on Tuesday for lunchtime talks.

I can't begin to guess.

So his failure to lead his own party doesn't bother you? BTW, and this is a fact, the people who couldn't get it done a Republicans.

(Of course not, you worship his failure)

Sure there is. Make being here less desirable than staying where you are and attempting to right the wrongs in your country. That means removing the reasons you came here. Jobs? None without a valid permit. Fine the hell out of employees of illegals. Fine or imprison the illegals, or both. Educating your children? Nada. Bennies? zero. No food stamps, no medical, no nothing. Sending money home? A fifty % tax on all exported money. Paid at the point of export.

People go where they are wanted. Stay away from where they aren't.

The elected representatives in congress have their own agenda that has nothing to do with making America great again.

And that includes democrats and republicans

Being here will always be better than being there.

Illegal aliens are treated so well we literally have to drag them kicking and screaming back across the border

true, government is composed of people who think about reelection the day after an election.

the republicans have always talked a good game, but they don't play a good one.

the only way to solve the problem is to bust up congress's ability to be lobbied and there only 1 way to do that, and the people are not educated enough to understand that.

There is no way to prevent lobbying

But smaller government that could not give favors to the clients of lobbiests woudl help

sure there is, by eliminating the 17th amendment this prevents the senate from being lobbied because it would no longer be a collective body, and since that can no longer happen, there is no point lobbying the house

by eliminating the 17th, the collective capacity of the people in blocked in American law making

Trump said he was a great leader and when he said do something people listen and do it. So yes it IS his fault if he can't get a republican congress to do it. At the very least it means he isn't a good leader.

Thats not a magic bullet

You are giving us libertarian gospel that I am not entirely familiar with

but going back to having senator appointed by the state legeslature would change nothing about the quality of people serving there or the ability of lobbests to give them bribes

And it turns out that the republican congress is even more corrupt than we knew.

At best all you can do is punish the country just to make trump look bad

you will find that the founders designed our government with the senate to not be a collective body, but one made for the state governments

by this action it keeps the congress from being lobbied, because senators are not free but only agents of their states, who are instructed how to vote on the issues as the state directs.

this keeps government small, and the separation powers intact our federalism, and factious combinations from controlling washington law making

State legislatures who would appoint US Senators, without the 17th, are already being lobbied! :lamo

Why do you continue to support direct gerrymandering of both federal chambers ?

trump doesn't need any help to look bad. I doubt Senators Cruz or especially Flake are willing to throw away their careers on trump's idiocy .

true but that would take place on a lower level and not on a national level, which is the most dangerous.

the the states are supposed to be the guardian of the constitution, and the keepers of federalism, how is that supposed to take place it they have no interest [which was taken away] to protect in government

Maybe not but the washington establishment is not taking any chances with a political outsider who insulted them by getting elected president.

They are determinded to ruin him along with the country

trump must not have studied President Truman when he was in school. He does enjoy inviting scumbags like ted nugent to the WH .

Clinton won the CDs represented by both Hurd and McSally. Neither are willing to throw away their career on trump's idiocy .
