Mockery, anger in South Korea over USS Carl Vinson 'bluffing'

It'll be ignored because it's partisan hackery to deflect from what else we were told. The President told us, explicitly: "I don't want to talk about it. We are sending an armada, very powerful. We have submarines, very powerful, far more powerful than the aircraft carrier, that I can tell you." in response to the question: "What we are doing right now in terms of North Korea?". Mattis said that the Carl Vinson “on her way up there". Spicer said, "And when you unpack it through that lens and the fact that the USS Carl Vinson is sort of steaming out toward the Sea of Japan". But a photo from roughly a week later, shows that it wasn't. We also received this statement: "Further confusion was added when Secretary of Defense James Mattis told reporters last week that the exercises had been canceled.", which was explained as: "Multiple US defense officials told CNN that Mattis had inadvertently misspoke and that it was a port visit in Australia that was canceled".

Like I said, it will be ignored because it doesn't address the problem people actually have, which is that the White House doesn't know what's happening or is deliberately not being truthful. Military officials clarifying to CNN doesn't change the fact Trump and his staff did not paint a clear picture of what's actually happening.

Perhaps it was pure rhetoric at the time. Regardless, global placement of weapons systems in not immediate.

I am willing to bet the White House knows what is happening and the people who should not know like our enemies or the idiots who will tell our enemies like the media and the left do not. As long as the left and the media are confused our military is safe.

Perhaps it was pure rhetoric at the time.
If by "pure rhetoric", you mean "not truthful", then yes, I would agree.
I am willing to bet the White House knows what is happening
Then why did they not tell the truth about it? Why did President Trump not tell the whole truth when speaking to his constituents who watch Fox News?
As long as the left and the media are confused our military is safe.
The "media" in this case was Fox News...are you accusing Fox News of being treasonous?

The same thing that I can do to your elected Senators or House member that I do not want to be in office - complain about how "unqualified" (incompetent?) they seem to act. ;)

Please give me a grin and go on a rant about Senator Marco Rubio, the junior Senator from Florida.

No one wants war but, when we are threatened on a daily basis with annihilation, some of us take that seriously.

Oh please NK poses no threat to the US. You just want to have a war and watch people die from your keyboard. Pound those drums baby, pound them.

Thanks to lies from our corrupt and bias media and left who jeopardize our military and our relations with other countries over their hatred of the right.

Which lies in particular, explanation with cites please.

The lies which are hurting this country are coming from the WH

Lock her up-lie
repeal Obama care-lie
no Russian connections-lie
Trump U-lie

Your turn, I gots lots more so bring it on.

What a ridiculous thing to say. There was no bluff.

That Carrier Group is heading to the area.
They first had to complete the exercise they were on.

The impression was given that it was a priority to get to Korea. Apparently the casual approach is good enough.

The only one that needs to know the exact location and time of where our carrier group is at any given time is our president. Advertising where and when they will be somewhere is only an advantage to our enemies. Anyone with a brain should be aware of this. Trumps only mistake was even telling the media anything about the whereabouts of our carrier group. I would have told the media that is for me to know and our enemies to figure out and the last person I will tell my military plans to is a stupid media who will shout it out to our enemies.

While a lot of information need only be told to the President, there is little need to endanger our alliances and cause use to lose face in the international arena through this sort of poor communication.

Trump's mistake was wanting to, as usual, sound like the big man on campus and running his mouth without thinking. Which is pretty much SOP, and which will come back and bite us in the butt if it keeps up.

This cannot be stated enough. People who voted for Trump did so for the following reasons:

1)He wasn't Clinton.
2)He is supposed to "break" Washington.
3)He is supposed to "stick it to libs."

Losing an aircraft carrier fits cleanly into 2), and that's why his supporters won't abandon him over this snafu. I don't pretend to know what will ultimately cause a rift between him and the people who voted for him, but any level of dysfunction won't do it because dysfunction is specifically the platform he ran on and is why they voted for him.

I think the revelation the media has been lying to the public should be a concern to all.

Spinning up articles to try and avoid the embarrassment over being caught doing so should come as no surprise to rational thinking people.

Thanks to lies from our corrupt and bias media and left who jeopardize our military and our relations with other countries over their hatred of the right.

The media didn't lie. They reported on official government communication.

Did the government communication provide a time table as to when the Carl Vinson would arrive near Korea? If it did, I would like to see it, as I have been unable to find any official government communication that does detail a time table for arrival.

Has the Carl Vinson received orders to head for the Korean Peninsula? Is it going to go there? The Navy has confirmed both.

Again, what happened to the Chinese and Russian Intelligence ships the media reported were shadowing the Carrier Group?

The media spun up fake news and sky is falling scenarios based on fantasy.

I'm not surprised they are now trying to convince the pack who barks at their dog whistles to blame the Trump Administration in order to escape the revelation they have been lying.

Too bad the White House's own position refutes your entire post.

Please give me a grin and go on a rant about Senator Marco Rubio, the junior Senator from Florida.

I never said that I did consider all other Senators or House representatives to be "bad" but the point remains that I can do precious little about those elected officials that I do consider to be "bad".

The only one that needs to know the exact location and time of where our carrier group is at any given time is our president.

So then why did the President tell the media?

Advertising where and when they will be somewhere is only an advantage to our enemies.

Thank Trump for putting sailors in harm's way in order to sound tough to the media.

Anyone with a brain should be aware of this.

Which explains why Trump divulged deployment information to the media

Trumps only mistake was even telling the media anything about the whereabouts of our carrier group.

"How dare the media report on things the President says!"

Seriously, if you gave a genuine **** about the military instead of this faux pandering you're doing in order to attack "the media" you'd realize that perhaps Trump should be given a class on Operational Security before getting in front of a podium with a microphone

I would have told the media that is for me to know and our enemies to figure out and the last person I will tell my military plans to is a stupid media who will shout it out to our enemies.

Yeah, it was the media that was stupid for reporting the news.

And definitely not the fault of the guy who shared deployment information. You know-- not the President of the United States' fault at all.

Eyeroll emoticon.

Trump had no problem alerting Russian forces in Syria that US Tomahawks were coming. They in turn alerted their Syrian allies.

You're such an blind enabler.

The facts and the truth are irrelevant too our corrupt and bias media or the bias and prejudice other party.

Ah the ol' blame the media Shtick.

Excuses are for losers.

Members of my family have already been to war. Regardless, there's no guarantees in life.

But not yourself. Thanks for at least being honest.

IMO all of us who post on DP, with rare exception, generally do precious little about elected officials whether we support them or not. Much like we participate on this forum at a level of our own choosing, we do much the same in the real world to influence public policy.

My influence depends on the issue at hand. I did within reason what I could to influence the outcome of our presidential election. I voted for candidates whose track records and stated views tended to align with my own. As we advanced to the General Election, I considered Florida very much in play. My wife and I stepped up our involvement with the candidates of our choice. Against our wishes and best efforts, Trump won Florida. As we had hoped and worked for, Rep. Jolly (R) lost his reelection bid to Crist (D). For better or worse, we do within reason what we can. May our Best Times lie ahead!

Another excuse.

Newflash: It's not WWII where a carrier group can hide on the big oceans. With todays satellites you can't hide except under cloud cover and even then it's difficult with aircraft with very long ranges that can keep tabs on carrier groups.

'US President Donald Trump said he was sending "an armada" to Korean waters to potentially deal with threats from Pyongyang.

But its no-show has caused some South Koreans to question his leadership and strategy regarding their unpredictable neighbor in the north.'

South Koreans worried over USS Carl Vinson carrier group bluster - CNN.com

Thoughts?

The South Koreans are right to be upset. They are really the only country Un can really hurt(with the possible exception of Japan).

Expecting the US to back them up, after they've been our allies for more than fifty years, is not too much to expect.

Despite your post being 3rd in the thread I wonder how many people will either A: ignore it or B: not read past the first post and then immediately post crowing about it in their eagerness to say anything possible negative about Trump.

You don't see how Trump's original statement could be received by other countries in the region as misleading?

It is on its way.

The problem here is that no one paid much attention to what else was said at the time.

But soon after the Pacific Command statement, US military officials clarified to CNN that the strike group would first complete a previously scheduled military exercise with the Australian navy.

Official: White House, Pentagon miscommunicated on aircraft carrier's location - CNNPolitics.com

To the comment that it is on its way ...
From the same link above.

The strike group, including the 97,000-ton carrier and its 60-plus aircraft, the guided-missile destroyers USS Wayne E. Meyer and USS Michael Murphy and the guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain, will arrive off the Korean Peninsula by the end of April, multiple US defense officials told CNN.

You think that makes it any better? Oh gee we weren't bluffing we're just so dysfunctional we don't actually know what we're doing right now.

"What Mr. Trump said was very important for the national security of South Korea," Presidential candidate Hong Joon-pyo told the Wall Street Journal.
"If that was a lie, then during Trump's term, South Korea will not trust whatever Trump says," said Hong, who is currently trailing in the polls.

South Korean media also seized on the conflicting reports on Trump's "armada" -- led by the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.

That right there is proof of failure on the part of the Trump administration. Our allies should never ever have to question whether or not we have their back and that we are 100% ready and willing to do whatever is necessary. This telegraphs incompetence and unreliability to our allies and weakness to our enemies.

Oh please NK poses no threat to the US. You just want to have a war and watch people die from your keyboard. Pound those drums baby, pound them.

Would you say that NK poses no threat to the 30,000 American troops stationed in South Korea?
