Fox Is Preparing to Cut Ties With Bill O’Reilly

He was a cultural warrior that helped spread the word of moderate viewpoints. You liberals want to appoint Bill Clinton, JFK, and MLK as heroes when their behavior was just as deplorable as Bill O'Reilly.

He is an employee. There are rules. You don't sexually harass people at work. No equivocation on that.

I hate to say it, but this response sounds a bit Trump-like.

There is evidence of him sexually harassing a woman on the phone. To pretend he is the victim is an insult to his victims.

I don't like O'Reilly. If he's guilty of sexual harassment, let the chips fall. But let the evidence be compelling and speak for itself, demonstrating that this is no smear campaign.

Morning Chomsky,

Why is it Trump-like to want to hear evidence someone says they have to counter allegations before rendering a judgement?
Hey there, Vesper.

It's the Trump technique of saying outlandish over the top things - without providing evidence - to deflect away from one's crimes or actions.

For example, "Obama tapped my wires".

Or this one linking Ted Cruz' father to the Kennedy assassination:

“His father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald's being — you know, shot. I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous,” Trump said Tuesday during a phone interview with Fox News. “What is this, right prior to his being shot, and nobody even brings it up. They don't even talk about that. That was reported, and nobody talks about it.”

“I mean, what was he doing — what was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death? Before the shooting?” Trump continued. “It’s horrible.”

The problem here, is Karl Rove started this doubling down technique, then Trump took it to stratospheric new levels. And now it's filtering down throughout the GOP crowd because it's successful in swaying a subset of their electorate.

But not I. I find attacking the victims a horrendous act, perpetrated by a desperate despicable man willing to go to any lengths to save himself. Good riddance, and may he someday rot in prison.

Just barely in and saw his deception about why DC is the richest city in America. He blames the government instead of the lobbiest being paid to be there to corrupt the government.
I disagree in technicality.

There's graft, temptation, and greed everywhere. It's up to the individual to accept it or not. Yes, the system is broken with money. But it's those in government and the courts that allow it.

'Grab them by the *****'. I'm sure many of the people who voted for Trump even after he said that are the same people who increased O'Reilly's ratings after the story that Fox paid $13 mil to shut-up O'Reilly's victims.

I mean they're only women. Right?

We might never know. He is a magnet for sexual harassment claims. Is he allowed to flirt with someone? How many times can he ask someone out before it's harassment? I'm no big fan, but the guy is in a tough spot.

Crosses the line.

You do if you make the company enough money. Not like it hasn't happened before.

He is not getting sponsors. If there are no sponsors paying for ads, there is no revenue...no matter how good your ratings are.

I read this article last night about Walsh's charges and etc.: "In the fight of his career, O’Reilly’s side swings back on harassment charge" https://www.washingtonpost.com/life...a742a6e93a7_story.html?utm_term=.231e8a0c7a31
Well from that article, this to me would seem to say it all:

"O’Reilly has never admitted to sexual harassment. He said he settled the complaints against him to spare his children from negative publicity about himself. ”

He blames his settling the cases on his children?

Marone! There no low too low for this man to stoop!

If it is unwanted it is sexual harassment. If the other party asks for you to stop, or reports that they are getting unwanted behavior from a coworker, its harassment.

I once had a guy who wouldn't stop asking a coworker out, she plainly said no to him, and complained. He kept doing it...via text. I confronted him about how he kept doing it after our first talk..he said he didn't do it....I had the text with a really nice date and time stamp coming from his phone. Amazingly stupid person. He went a little nuts, yelling "you can't fire me, I'm a child of the lord!"

HR people always have great stories.

LOL, sparing his children? Remember this?

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly has lost custody of his two teenage children following an alleged domestic violence incident, according to court documents.

A New York appeals court upheld a ruling that denied Mr. O'Reilly sole residential custody and status as sole decision-maker for the 17-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son he had with his ex-wife, Maureen McPhilmy, the New York Daily News reported. The Fox News host will still have visitation rights with his kids on alternating weekends and some holidays.

“There is a sound and substantial basis for the Supreme Court’s determination that it is in the best interests of the children for the mother to be awarded primary residential custody,” the four-judge Appellate Division panel wrote. “Particularly relevant in this case are the clearly stated preferences of the children, especially considering their age and maturity, and the quality of the home environment provided by the mother.”

Don't forget the spousal abuse.

He is a real POS

He actually reported the news and fought against late term abortions, child molesters and criminal illegal immigrants.

His political beliefs were rock solid. He held politicians of both parties accountable, even if he was particularly harsh against George W. Bush.
Uh, does anyone else note a complete non-sequitur here?

Something along the lines of,

POS: "He beats his wife"

Bucky: "He's a good Republican"

My family swears it's a left-wing character assassination... Look I admire Bill, he is very good at his job. But at some point you just have to admit that there is something more here...
I hate to say it, but this is the same train-of-thought that put Trump in the White House.

True but bribing... er... lobbying isn't graft or illegal. And the value of property is skyrocketing because of the wealth of these mega-corps dropping in there with permanent staff down the street from the capital to do nonstop lobbying or to officially move their HQ's to DC. Especially with regards to defense contractors, big pharma and big farming.

Here's what I got out of the article:

However, O’Reilly’s defenders say O’Reilly never made a job offer and did not retaliate against her. Instead, they say, O’Reilly was continuously helpful to Walsh after their meeting at the Hotel Bel-Air.

O’Reilly, for example, continued to invite her on his program for four months after the hotel encounter. During several of her appearances, which focused on relationships and behaviorial issues, O’Reilly plugged Walsh’s book, “The 30-Day Love Detox,” a valuable bit of promotion, given O’Reilly’s large audience.

...Walsh was a guest on “The Factor” 13 times after her meeting with O’Reilly in Los Angeles, appearing almost weekly from late February until mid-June of that year. ...O’Reilly also was apparently instrumental in securing for Walsh an appearance on the daytime chat program “The View” in mid-April during which she also promoted her book. https://www.washingtonpost.com/life...a742a6e93a7_story.html?utm_term=.c6f714169d51

What do you think of Walsh writing O'Reilly's producer saying "Please, please, pretty please" asking for a segment to be done on her book? Did she put promoting her tome over her principles?

When you have a double-digit number of women leaving your organization and suing for sexual harassment claiming the #1 and #2 guys are perving them, it would seem to me said organization has a problem. No?

This is what the woman claims, and for all I know, she's telling the truth. But this is a she said/he said situation that can't be proven.

It's usually true that "Where there's smoke, there's fire." But this is a man's reputation and career on the line, so "smoke" isn't good enough.

You know, you're right. Innocent until proven guilty. But, if O'Reilly has been horndogging around since his divorce, I'm sure Rupert Murdoch is aware. It's his call. The public should attempt to remain neutral, although with a polarizing figure like O'Reilly, that's a prayer.

All it takes is for him to insinuate to her that she would get a job, or something for it to rise to the level of a "Quid pro Quo" sexual harassment. That is the biggie in legal terms.

Why? Is 70 years now too old to do that?Would it be okay if he was 40?

If the young lady is consenting there's nothing wrong with older men making advances. They just have to buck the stigma. Which I'm all for. Societal stigmas hold people back from honesty about what makes them happy.

In this case though, it's more about grunting and squeeling at a coworker while calling her hot chocolate. His age just compounds the situation.

*allegedly
