Earlier this afternoon, the Seattle City Council unanimously voted to establish a $1 million immigrant legal defense fund to cover the legal expenses of Seattle immigrants and refugees amid an increase in arrests of undocumented immigrants by federal authorities under the Trump administration.

The city legislation—co-sponsored by at-large councilmembers Lorena Gonzalez and Tim Burgess and announced back on March 30th—will divert the $1 million from the City’s general sub fund to the City Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, who will administer the money as competitive grants to non-profit organizations that provide legal services to immigrants living or working in Seattle. While the fund is explicitly intended to aid those who are facing repercussions—such as detention or deportation—due to their immigration status, the money can also go towards legal expenses related to the naturalization process. (The legislation also mandates that the $1 million allocation will be automatically renewed in 2018.)

I'm not surprised that someone with the name 'Lorena Gonzalez' would use her position to divert tax payers money for breaking the law in favor of her countrymen. We've seen local politics in Los Angeles become a system where Mexican Americans ignore everybody else except other Latinos, namely the black families who's roots in the area predates the more recent arrivals.

Seattle must be a booming city if they can afford to spend $1,000,000 to fund lawbreakers trying to not face justice.

My question would be, "Why immigration?"

What makes that so special? Why can't everybody have their legal expenses paid for by the city? Regardless the topic.

That's great, but ineffective. So when an illegal is arrested for a crime, Seattle will pay to defend them against their own DA? Or will the lawyer try to get the DA not to charge them at all for minor crimes like DUI's, drug sales, auto theft, and prostitution? And they will release them in some alley before ICE can grab them at the courthouse and deport them?

What about more serious crimes like cartel hits, under age prostitution, opioid distribution? I presume they will charge them, but will bar ICE from grabbing them for deportation when their sentence is up?

What is in it for the citizens of Seattle?

$1 million to help with "legal services". This means lawyers, right?

So in other words the council voted to help 3, maybe 4 illegals stay in the country a little while longer.

This is only the beginning. Lorena Gonzalez wants even more money now to fund illegals. The $1 million demand was just an appetizer.
