Trump demands gold‑plated welcome (in London)

But just think of the freedom this spending allows all future Democrats! It's almost better than, "It's Bush's fault." ;) ;)

You just can't do it can you?

I understand that Obama broke precedent by being escorted in a bullet-proof limo, but I need to know how other presidents were escorted before I can form an opinion on this.

Owing to security concerns and greatly increased costs to the British people - so Obama once again showing he actually thought about the consequences of his actions, unlike The Orange President's self-centred behaviour.

I am thinking that this experience is not Obama's speed....he likes new and urban, stuff that looks to be UTOPIA READY.

I am surprised he wants that public of an arrival. I can't think of many thing I would enjoy less than a slow procession down a street in which everyone is booing me and holding up disparaging signs.

Forgive my cynicism, but would "the headline" then read . . . Trump snubs the royal family? ;)

What most likely happened was the Brits offered the royal wagon and President Trump accepted. The headline of the OP is probably bull****.

The Coronation coach would be to his garish taste.

My thoughts exactly.

Yet the British happily bore the cost for the leaders of the other two major world powers.

I don't know why this is supposed to be news. If a golden carriage is an option of course Trump will want it. Have you seen Trump tower? The guy is obsessed with the stuff.

President Fop's taste is in his ass. He loves everything gaudy, tacky and rococo. Trump is a billionaire who acts so "new money" that he embarrasses the entire United States; the Kardashian of American politics. The contrast from the Obama's who - whether you like them or not - carried themselves and represented America with style and grace to President Narcissist is appalling.

Sorry, Cyndi Lauper, money doesn't change everything. You can't polish a turd. Put a turd in a Queen cart and you have a turd in a Queen cart.

What are you rambling on about? Is there a point to this post that is not deprived of any fact or rational argument?

The Donald's ego will cost the Brits a 'few' pennies, this autumn

Well if the Brits offered it then why not? I'd also take the crown and the scepter to go with it if I was the Donald. Maybe even have the German lady kneel down to me as I step out of the carriage.

There was talk of moving his reception to Scotland to avoid unpleasant scenes of protest in London. When the Scots pointed out that he was even less popular up there, the explanation was that there were fewer of them to manage (As if there were no transport links!)

The mans taste are dubious at best. His apartment is full of gilt, and way over the top on the Rococo. Reminds one of the Russian oligarchs homes in Russia, perhaps Trump took there decorating advice, along with the election help.

Trump must not be doing too bad as President if the fallback hate from his detractors involves something so silly as his taste in interior design.

Obama seemed to relish and exploit each opportunity to snub the Brits.

Trump is assertively re-positioning Britain back its special partner status.

It's a Murdoch paper so it must be true.

"DONALD Trump’s state visit to Britain has been delayed until October in a bid to avoid protests and MPs’ snubs.
The US President told Theresa May of his fears over the trip originally plotted for June during a phone call two weeks ago.

An October visit also means Trump’s cherished hope of seeing the Queen at her Scottish retreat of Balmoral is much more likely. ..."

I don't know that Trump has "insisted" on anything. This article is written in a somewhat vague manner, it's likely he requested the carriage and the media is using wording to make it look like he's demanding it.

We know the carriage is used for state visits of other world leaders. I gotta say I would think riding the carriage would be pretty cool. I think the Times is blowing this all out of proportion though

Correct. The carriage is standard for state visits. It is the elected President of the USA who will be welcomed to Britain and he should receive all the usual honours.

$3,000,000 per Florida weekend plus Secret Service money for protecting his sons & daughter. He is actually working (spending money) on his reelection!!! God help us.

Why it's unprecedented!

President Trump Demands Gold?Plated Welcome in London?

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have also taken such carriage rides during state visits, although U.S. President Barack Obama eschewed the tradition in order to avoid the elaborate security precautions it would require. A source quoted by the Times described the security drawbacks of the traditional carriage as follows

I would think there is the risk of permanent hearing damage given the never ending bleat of dog whistles directed at specific members of the population.

Perhaps some funding at OSHA can be directed at this pubic health issue.

And he defeated Germany and Japan in WWII.

Just sayin'.

He locked up American citizens for no other reason than their race and national origin without due process. J/S

Considering all the fake news bull**** that goes on, I wont be shocked if we learn that the UK protocol people asked, the Trump admin answered, and leftists have **** themselves claiming he 'demanded'.
