Trump demands gold‑plated welcome (in London)

FDR was elected to the office 4 times.

But he was still only President the one time. It just lasted a while. Grover Cleveland, on the other hand, actually did get to be President twice.

And win the popular vote 3 times in a row .

Wait, haven't you heard? The arrests are coming next week. Get ready for President Pence.

We will never be that lucky (and I think Pence is a more focused right wing politician)... I'll take a longer view and count more on the one term deal.

But in the quiet of early morning I do have a wistful sigh for 'the Nixon scenario'... :peace

He could insist on using the standard motorcade as it is also a security issue.

Forgive my cynicism, but would "the headline" then read . . . Trump snubs the royal family? ;)

The Donald's ego will cost the Brits a 'few' pennies, this autumn

One source said that Mr Trump’s decision to opt for the carriage, rather than the bullet and bomb-proof car that was used by his predecessor presented a range of fresh headaches.

Sounds like a winner to me.

I don't know why this is supposed to be news. If a golden carriage is an option of course Trump will want it. Have you seen Trump tower? The guy is obsessed with the stuff.

I don't how they could citing security problems, considering Obama did the same thing.

Envious? Or are you just being negative?

Definitely "negative" when speaking of Trump. Not like I'm part of a minority that thinks like that.
The Government has officially rejected a petition calling for Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK to be cancelled.

Nearly two million people signed the petition on Parliament’s website, with the number still rising.

In a written response the Foreign Office, the Government said it did not agree with the request and would extend “the full courtesy of a state visit” to the US President.

Take a minute or two of your valuable time and read the linked article.

This is not worth that kinda time....if the host is offering up a carriage and Trump wants to use it because as we all know I hope Trump has got to have his fun then that is fine with me.

However it was I see now Obama who did not want the carriage.

That sounds like him too.

Owing to security concerns and greatly increased costs to the British people - so Obama once again showing he actually thought about the consequences of his actions, unlike The Orange President's self-centred behaviour.

I understand that Obama broke precedent by being escorted in a bullet-proof limo, but I need to know how other presidents were escorted before I can form an opinion on this.

"...according to officials."

What officials? What are they "official" of? What are their names?

The Times has been learning lessons from WSJ, NYT, CNN, etc, I see.

it's his ass being exposed by his choice
maybe he is counting on the low numbers of guns in the general british population to mitigate his personal risk
he carriage ride will make a statement
probably not the one he expects

I'm not touching that one.:shoot :gunsmilie :boom....:damn

I'm surprised he just doesn't "invite" Theresa May (or the House of Lords) to Mar-a-Lago.
But the insecure clown wants a gold-plated welcome to match his apartment/nouveau riche taste in everything.

He does seem to have a preference for a style which has become known as "Dictator Chic"

Actually, I tried to read the article instead of relying on that bit you quoted but, like our own WSJ, The Times demands a subscription to see the whole article.

I refused.
