WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has scrapped the tax plan he campaigned on and is going back to the drawing board in a search for Republican consensus behind legislation to overhaul the U.S. tax system.

The administration's first attempt to write legislation is in its early stages and the White House has kept much of it under wraps. But it has already sprouted the consideration of a series of unorthodox proposals including a drastic cut to the payroll tax, aimed at appealing to Democrats.

If there is a government shutdown in August, it won't be because Republicans and Democrats couldn't come to an agreement. It will be because Republicans and Republicans couldn't come to an agreement. Trump gave a little to the Democratic side of the aisle in this budget, and that has some Republicans up in arms.

And the clown car continues it's journey to the great scrapheap that all cars eventually end up in..... Only much faster. This is not an ordinary clown car. It's a vintage '70's Ford Pinto. Yup...... Kablooey!!

Even if he doesn't come up with anything? Or if he tries to and it doesn't get passed?

Why not put jared in charge of this too? Makes sense, since he's doing everything else.

Give up like Obama? Obama fought for over a year to get the ACA passed. Trump fought for two weeks to get his bill passed, sold out every single one of his campaign promises concerning the bill, never bothered to learn its contents and then promptly gave up.

So long as Trumps wheels keeps spinning, regardless of whether he gets anywhere.

I never had much confidence that Trump could get anything done in Washington, I doubt we wise up till the Great Crash, but he has to try.

It's going to take another depression before Americans decide to try to learn all that we have forgotten about how to do America.

I've heard of people like you before, "I'd rather elect someone who just sits there and doesn't get anything done," but I never thought they were serious.

Indeed, taxing less while not spending less is going to be a huge problem for republicants in congress to present as being fiscally responsible.

Wow...gotta hand it to Trumpbots...they must be SOOOOOOO tired of winning by now.

Trump got Obamacare killed.

He got his tax plan through.

He stayed out of the Middle East...like he promised.

He increased jobs in America...a whopping 98,000 last month.

He was right...his followers must be tired of winning by now.

Once again, I have ZERO loyalty to any political party or movmemt.

I never thought I would live to see the day when Republicans could not agree on a bill to cut taxes

You have failed at low level comprehension.

Actually, I like not getting anything done. When that happens, the government can't screw over it's citizens. I love gridlock, but it normallly takes two political parties to produce gridlock. The fact that only ONE political party is producing gridlock, even though they now control all 3 branches of government, is special.

"President Donald Trump has scrapped the tax plan he campaigned on and is going back to the drawing board in a search for Republican consensus behind legislation to overhaul the U.S. tax system."

I would think that this is promising. After noting, and learning what has gone on with the HC overhaul among republicans, then it seems like pragmatic strategy to make sure you have everyone on board before pushing something though....

But, I understand that "conservatives" such as yourself will continue to take a line against anything, or any move this administration takes...Hmmmm, noting the posting history of the famed danarhea, one would come to the conclusion that you were firmly a liberal democrat if "leans" weren't posted....

Your false assumption is that Trump is a real conservative. Authoritarian, yes, but he isn't really conservative. Not with the spending he wants to undertake. If you want to accuse someone of being an evul leebrul, you might want to direct your comments at the Freedom Caucus, which is taking the exact same view on spending.
