A former top Obama administration official has acknowledged efforts by her colleagues to gather intelligence on Trump team ties to Russia before Donald Trump took office and to conceal the sources of that intelligence from the incoming administration.

Evelyn Farkas, deputy assistant secretary of defense under Obama, made the disclosure while on the air with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski.
“I was urging my former colleagues, and frankly speaking the people on the Hill, it was more actually aimed at telling the Hill people, get as much information as you can, get as much intelligence as you can, before President Obama leaves the administration,” Farkas, who is now a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, said.
“Because I had a fear that somehow that information would disappear with the senior [Obama] people who left, so it would be hidden away in the bureaucracy ... that the Trump folks – if they found out how we knew what we knew about their ... the Trump staff dealing with Russians – that they would try to compromise those sources and methods, meaning we no longer have access to that intelligence.”

Gee, they were spying on team Trump...

I like the ending part which was

"So I became very worried because not enough was coming out into the open and I knew that there was more. We have very good intelligence on Russia," she said. "So then I had talked to some of my former colleagues and I knew that they were trying to also help get information to the Hill."

Meaning, there's a lot of good intelligence linking Trump and Russia still floating around out there that hasn't yet come out. lol

Well we can investigate these leaks, but now that we know, we need to investigate the links too. And not just the golf links, Trump already has that one covered, lol.

And the plot thickens...

I agree with her.

If done through the proper legal channels due to a reasonable concern (and it appears there is), then absolutely it should be done.

Trump is showing absolutely no transparency in the matter, whereas as the President he should be welcoming this.

But I do think it's interesting that this may finally produce his tax returns, unfortunately not freely by Trump but through legal force.

If the boils over and comes undone, let this be a lesson to those that put a man in office without thoroughly vetting him, including his tax returns.

Oh FFS, this whole Russia Trump thing is just as pointless and retarded as the Birther nonsense.

Right now the current news on Paul Manfort is really bubbling over. I'm beginning to suspect an indictment is coming. Then (if so), it will get really interesting. Beyond interesting.

Really?

Why don't you do a quick Google on the current state of the Manfort investigation in relationship to the cashflow (playing close attention to Cyprus), and get back to me.

Lol. I still haven't heard how anyone has a right to see his tax returns. It's all, but everyone else did it, so why can't he?! Or my favorite, but we suspect wrong doing(you know doing business with the Russians is wrong doing in liberal land) so we need to see them!

You guys really can't tell the difference between bs and reality can you?

Manafort was doing that stuff while GWB was pres and Putin was affectionately known as Pootie Poo.

It is but it's also setting a precedent. See, the next time a Democrat is elected we can have a solid four years of public investigations of their activities. It will save congress from actually doing work and will be great for TV ratings.

You mean you actually don't know? LOL! Really?

Notice how the first request named Trump? Do you think perhaps the intent was to spy on Trump?

Yes, yes, we know, a big business man like trump secretly worked to further Russian causes to enrich himself by becoming President. Just like that mooslim Obama was born in Kenya look at the type face, how can you deny it???

Fair point.

But in light of the Russian election meddling and Manfort being in charge of the Trump campaign, along with the one-sided release of leaks, to me it seems to warrant extreme scrutiny.

Also, I do think Manafort has a reasonable chance of taking an indictment here. It's going to be close I think.

Actually Republicans already did that with Obama for 8 solid years. Remember the Benghazi investigations? Dozens of them? The Birther accusations that weren't? Pizzagate, which never happened, and which Alex Jones just apologized for spreading?

But I do agree with you on one thing.... As long as crap like that keeps happening, it makes it much harder for the government to screw it's citizens.

No, its not. Even if the FBI concludes that members of the Trump campaign did not collude with the Russians in the 2016 election, we still know that 17 intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia was behind the hacking of the DNC and did try to influence our elections in favor of Trump.

In contrast, the whole birther nonsense was nothing but a lie from the start to the end. There was no more evidence for Obama being born a Kenyan than there is for a tennis ball being in orbit around the planet Jupiter.

I don't have an issue with Manafort being charged, if he committed a crime.
I just think that "connections to Russia" are far, far more common than people would otherwise believe.

Countries of any and all stripe attempt to lobby our government, routinely.
Just think of the potential connections between Israel, Saudi Arabia, etc.
You'd have to investigate the entirety of congress and most/all former presidents over those two alone.
