Would YOU choose to live forever? Age-reversing pill that Nasa wants to give to astro

Re: Would YOU choose to live forever? Age-reversing pill that Nasa wants to give to a

I would only do it if I could eventually choose to die, which certainly would be the case with any realistic medical treatment.

You can chose to die at any point in time of your life.

Re: Would YOU choose to live forever? Age-reversing pill that Nasa wants to give to a

I find life wonderous and fascinating and wouldn't mind hanging around a few centuries to see what happens next.

In no rush to meet your maker, are ya?

;)

Re: Would YOU choose to live forever? Age-reversing pill that Nasa wants to give to a

In its DNA coding, a cell is instructed to divide x number of times. When this division allowance is reached, the code then instructs the cell to initiate a self-destruct mode.

This sequence is critical to maintaining an optimal balance (new/aging/dying) of cells in a human body. Cancer is what we call unlimited/unending cell division.

Re: Would YOU choose to live forever? Age-reversing pill that Nasa wants to give to a

I agree with the Google executive who predicted that in 30 years (about 28 years now) we would have "eternal" life in the sense that your brain would be on a disk that that disk would be "you". You may, no, will, have all robotic parts but it will be "you".
As to this pill, I suspect that other parts will break down and the age reversing aspects of the pill won't help in those areas-such as knees, hips, hearing, brain, etc.

Funny guy. :)

Same reason I go to the doc, take the meds he prescribes, and had surgery that one time: being sick and feeble doesn't appeal.

But whenever He calls, that'll be it, regardless of medical whatnot. No such thing as immortality and That Day comes for all.

Something will do you in eventually.

Meanwhile I serve Him and live my life. Presently I'm in no rush, still have things to do, people that count on me. Maybe one day that won't be the case and I will feel differently.

Meanwhile I kinda like the idea of not growing weak, feeble and sick.

Assuming there's anything to this news and it isn't the usual schlock. -shrug-

I mean, if you're going to get there eventually, might as well take the slow road.

Re: Would YOU choose to live forever? Age-reversing pill that Nasa wants to give to a

Wow! Sign me up!....What say you? Would you take it?

Hmmmm....only if I could still have a job, because I don't have enough in my retirement account to last forever.

There aren't enough jobs to have all the 90 year old people still working & not making way for the young people.

I'd like the pills, in theory. But I don't think the result would be good, in total, for the world or the country, or me. We need to die to make room for the young. Or stop increasing the population. One of the two.

What would life be without death?
What would life be without an end?

I think a change such as that would fundamentally change the definition of life as to render the previous definition and context meaningless. Why would you want that?

Don't get me wrong, if you refuse to die just to find out if whatever death cult you have affinities for (Islam, Christianity, Judaism, etc) got it right, you're already good in my book.

It's definitely a step above the crazies who let their kids hang out with snakes and deny them perfectly fine Western medicine. That said, your doctor's pills aren't messing with your DNA or keeping you in some ageless dream. So no, you won't be visiting these people for the same reasons. You could live a perfectly fine and healthy life without this specific drug.

In either case, you've just put on display what everyone who doesn't believe in mythical beings will tell you: Very few people are actually sure of what they believe is at the end of the road, most aren't willing to find out for themselves, everyone wants to avoid it for as long as possible just in case there's nothing.

If I could retain youth and health, yet still gain wisdom with age and experience... you bet!

Well, yes and no. I can't prove what I believe and maybe I could be wrong, but I do believe it.

It isn't death that bothers me so much, as getting old and feeble and sick. I've watched people I love go thru that and it sucks. If I can avoid it I'm cool with that.

Something will still kill ya one day. Car accident, plane crash, sudden embolism, something.

I'd prefer to go out that way than by slow decay.

And I genuinely do find life wonderous and fascinating, and enjoy it, and wouldn't mind hanging around as long as I still feel that way.

Weirdly enough, I actually can't wait to get to my 60s-70s or whatever age people start getting ready for death. I work in an environment where aging is part of your professional growth and brings new experiences.

Then again, I am conscious that we only get like 50-80 years to make a mark, and anywhere after that, we're on borrowed time.

Re: Would YOU choose to live forever? Age-reversing pill that Nasa wants to give to a

Will things hurt less, like joints and crap? If so then sign me up. Enough stupid stuff goes on in the world to kill me off. There is just too much to see in one lifetime though. Lots of questions to ask.

Well we're all on borrowed time. Mostly people don't like to think about that.

Knew a guy in his 30s, successful, beautiful wife, kids, seemed to be a nice family. He got cancer and died at like 36 or 37. I thought that was really sad.

50-plus, really no guarantees, but none of us are promised tomorrow.

In the old days it was harder to deny as more people died young; not as much now but still happens.

This treatment, IF it pans out (color me somewhat skeptical), won't change that fundamental truth, just make it easier to deny for a longer time.

(shrug) Such is life. ;)

Not saying that I would want eternal life, but a pill that reverses the aging process, and gives one a little longer lease on life? I'd give it a go....It took so long to figure this little game we are in, out, that now I just want, I guess to go back and do a few things differently....Like everyone I suspect.

Re: Would YOU choose to live forever? Age-reversing pill that Nasa wants to give to a

LOL probably not....

Then no thanks. If I couldn't even get disability because of these stupid pills, my only escape from taxes would be if a truck ran me over when I was on the way to the pharmacy to get a refill because I ran out over a holiday weekend.

I've seen too many episodes of Tales From the Crypt and the Twilight Zone to want this.

Well, let's hope that doesn't happen....

Aw come on....Not even if it had the choice to choose when to pull the plug figuratively?

No, I saw the Twilight Zone where the guy can stop time with a stopwatch. There is no scenario regarding immortality you can propose that I haven't seen an anthology show address.

Yeah, but that's a continuing story, isn't it? Even if you went back and did it over again, at the end of the second time around you'd have other experiences and other observations, leading to doing over a third time. Wouldn't you?

I'll let Bob tell y'all about it:
