No Deal on Health Care Bill After Conservative Meeting With Trump[W:400]******

Re: No Deal on Health Care Bill After Conservative Meeting With Trump

Welcome to using the 'Hastert Rule' to passing legislation on your own .

Awe come on. The Democrats have been trying for a health care package since before the 1990s by a long way. That hasn't much to do with the Hastert excuse for failure. ;)

Re: No Deal on Health Care Bill After Conservative Meeting With Trump

On the contrary. With single payer nobody would ever have to worry about health insurance again. There government would pay the health care costs for everyone. The only issue you'd have is if you wanted a particular test or procedure and the government said "No" you wouldn't have any other options.
Well, you'd likely have the same option as currently: Do without, or pay out-of-pocket.

And where is Hastert now? :lamo

Actually, I shouldn't laugh. He's a sick **** and deserves where his is!

Re: No Deal on Health Care Bill After Conservative Meeting With Trump

Good.

Let them come up with something that works instead of repealing Obamacare just to say they repealed it, when it's being replaced with something worse.

Good. Maybe now they can actually come up with something that's better than the ACA.
Oh Lordy!

Do you guys *really* believe the GOP will improve healthcare in America? Seriously?

Re: No Deal on Health Care Bill After Conservative Meeting With Trump

Kate Snow on MSNBC, relying on multiple sources, has reported the GOP Leadership has postponed a vote on their proposed ACHA Plan.

NO HEALTH CARE VOTE TODAY.

So the wealthy would still have access to a free market but everyone else would be forced to use the public system? That doesn't sound particularly fair.

Re: No Deal on Health Care Bill After Conservative Meeting With Trump

Actually, progress---ives have been dreaming of a health care system since GOP president Theodore Roosevelt first introduced it .

Don't hold it against the ancients that their dreams were dysfunctional, as well meaning as they might have been. That was before the widespread failures of social democratic experiments with health care systems. But now such fantasies are pure populism, as we know the experimental results are as dismal as economic theory predicts.

Re: No Deal on Health Care Bill After Conservative Meeting With Trump

The vote has been postponed but Rep. Meadows head of the Freedom Caucus told reporters he is hopeful as there are just two reasonable requests in the bill be changed and then the Freedom caucus is on board. It is also being reported that Republicans in the House are to be in House on Friday for a possible vote. But then again this all could be resolved by this evening. One thing I don't see happening is calling for a vote in the middle of the night which would be the wrong thing to do.
To me this sounds promising and at the same time if this bill can pass the scrutiny of the Freedom Caucus it will pass the Senate with no problem.

Re: No Deal on Health Care Bill After Conservative Meeting With Trump

Single payer healthcare would mean that 85% of americans would have worse healthcare insurance than they do now. it would mean the destruction of the republican party if they did such a thing.

Provide evidence to back that claim please.

That all depends on the two reasonable requests

It's already DOA in the Senate, no matter what the House does.

It's every GOP lawmaker for themselves, and we're already seeing that on the state level also .

That is the way the health care in the social democracies work. It is the way it works everywhere there is a public option.

Afternoon Unitedwestand...... How's sunny Cal today? Here in Central OH I got to see the sun for the first time in days.

Well here's the deal the House needs the votes in the Freedom Caucus to pass this bill. I am sure by the time it is all over everyone will find them reasonable.

California is doing well.

If those reasonable demands alienate the moderate republicans, the bill will still fall at the the first hurdle

So it should be back to the situation ex ante? But where is your problem with taking out private insurance?

Are you telling me you don't know what the 'Hastert Rule' is?

Why do you think GOPs are going it alone to get 215 out of 429, with one DEM with a dying parent, one empty DEM seat and 4 empty GOP seats.

If the DEM gets back, it'll be 216 out of 430.

That's a possibility, but those members know tax reform can not start until this healthcare thing is resolved as the two are related.

Most trumposters are just learning who the moderate and more grown up GOP house Tuesday Group is .

Re: No Deal on Health Care Bill After Conservative Meeting With Trump

Obamacare is dying a natural death due to insurance companies pulling out of exchanges. That along with the higher premiums and deductibles. That being said, representatives from either party are elected to represent the people of their district, not the president or their political party. If the folks back home in these guys districts are against repeal and replace, more power to them for standing up and representing the people of their district. That is the way it should be.

With Obamacare, quite a lot of Democratic house representatives and senators told the people of their district and state to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. They showed their loyalty was to their political party and Obama and not to the people who elected them. Then 2010 happened and it was payback for those Democrats who told their constituents to go to Hades.

Personally, I have been very anti-Obamacare. But if the people in those Republican districts want their representatives to vote against repeal and replace, by golly gee, they better vote against it and vote accordance with the wishes of those whom elected them. Not for a political party or a president, any president or party. Represent the people that sent you to Washington, if not, you're replaceable. Just ask those 63 house democrats who lost 2010.

Vote the wishes of the people, I don't care if its Obamacare 101 and Trump's repeal and replace zero.

The wealthy can buy ponies too, that isn't fair to those who can't afford a pony.

It was you that brought up the Hastert Rule as an excuse. I just pointed out why it didn't work.

Both Obamacare and the Republican plan suck. If the Republican plan fails we are still stuck with a huge failure. It is not a win for anyone.

You've lost me here.

You'd have the benefits of single-payer, which are many, and with the concern you noted in the middle quote you'd have no worse than currently.

So I'm not sure of the point you're making here.

Greetings, Vesper. :2wave:

I haven't had time to keep up with this, so what are your thoughts, if you wish to share? I have always trusted your thorough research on any topic you are interested in - Common Core being one example where you were so correct, contrary to the hype others were giving it - so will the GOP plan be an improvement for most people, IYO? Is there a link I could use to read about it for myself?

If you're speaking of supplementary insurance like in Medicare or that used in the UK, I have no problem at all.

I was addressing Luther's concern with single-payer of possibly not having options for some procedures or tests (which is not at all that different than the rationing done by insurance companies currently).
