U.S. border officers told a Mexican teen to drink liquid meth. His family received $1

Re: U.S. border officers told a Mexican teen to drink liquid meth. His family receive

If they suspected it was a dangerous substance, telling a child to consume it is a crime if you ask me.

Law enforcement has some obligation to protect children from their own stupidity.

I didn't ask you, and they have no such obligation. The boy died by his own hand, of his own free will, while committing a felony.:coffeepap

Re: U.S. border officers told a Mexican teen to drink liquid meth. His family receive

If he were telling the truth it would save everyone time. If not he had the chance to voluntarily surrender.

It was grossly unprofessional. A border guard finding a suspicious substance and asking the guy to eat it or drink it? You can twist and spin it how you like and it still comes off like something a teen-ager who shouldn't be trusted as hall monitor might do.

I think it was good police work. I suspect the boy might have left without a record had he confessed it was not apple juice.

A million bucks well spent, then?

Really? Here's the headline from your link.

[h=1]U.S. border officers told a Mexican teen to drink liquid meth. His family received $1 million for his death.[/h]

No way I know to get around that???

Re: U.S. border officers told a Mexican teen to drink liquid meth. His family receive

.... has ANYBODY ever been accused of mistreatment for not letting somebody drink juice? Or you just making it up as you go?

No, it's well within the SJW spectrum to make such claims. After all, there were violent liberal protests when a woman convicted of engaging in identity fraud and stealing social security numbers was deported. If liberals are willing to protest that, they would certainly protests an illegal immigrant being denied his right to drink "apple juice".

Oh okay. Thanks. That's all you needed to say. Everything else, is just nonsense and undeserving of being read.

You're welcome for this lesson in avoiding histrionics.

I'll charge you for the next one.

:)

Good policework to tell a kid to kill himself. Right.

We can confirm that thanks the the BP actions, this "kid" will not be smuggling drugs into our country, will not be living off the American safety net, will not be committing future crimes in our country, will not be costing the tax-payers the expense of deporting him, will not be costing tax-payers the expense of prison, and will not be another illegal immigrant criminal roaming our streets like a dog. Yes this was a good result.

"Dead children are a good result" - modern Americans.

But why did your own thread title say $1?

He was offered the chance to exonerate himself or come clean. Yes, good police work.

EDIT: Wait up. It's behind a paywall, and I have a suspicion it's a hoax. I don't see the report in any other outlet, and it's been five days. I smell BS.

These Officer are still employed.
None were disciplined.
Should they be fired?
Are their laws where charges could have been laid?
Thoughts are?

If it was dynamite, would they have tried to light if off in the office?

Dumb.

Only so much fits in- I did not cut, amend or change the headline

Not for me to say.

You don't have an opinion? C'mon, that hardly sounds like you!

Money settlements are lawyer business. Reasons for paying are many times counterintuitive.

The reason is a judge found the whole sad event a million bucks worth of incompetence.
Course, there's always the out that the judge was stupid/corrupt/incompetent and/or Hispanic.

I really don't care. I like what the officers did.

It was unprofessional and horrific police work. Police legally can not and will not allow anyone to harm themselves or others in a police presence.

Anyone about to harm themselves will be subdued, by force if necessary, and placed in protective custody.

The CBP officers here allowed/encouraged a minor to ingest (and fatally overdose on) a substance the officers believed to be a Schedule I narcotic.

The boy claimed otherwise. He was given a chance to exonerate himself if true, or to come clean if false. Quite fair.

It doesn't work like that in good police work Jack. Minors don't make the rules or dictate decisions ... especially with potentially lethal substances.

He's not a US citizen enjoying rights and consideration. He's a foreign drug smuggler at the border. If he's old enough to do that then's he's old enough to make his decision. He died by his own decision; the BP officers didn't owe him anything.
