Person detained after incident at White House checkpoint, Secret Service spokesperson says | Fox News

One person was detained after a suspicious vehicle drove up to a White House checkpoint on Saturday evening, according to a United States Secret Service spokesperson.

A law enforcement official told Fox News that the individual claimed to have an explosive device in the vehicle.

“An individual drove a vehicle up to a Secret Service checkpoint located at 15th Street and E Street NW,” a statement from the spokesperson said. “Upon contact with the individual, U.S. Secret Service Uniform Division Officers detained the individual and declared his vehicle suspicious.”

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. and has prompted the Secret Service to increase “their posture of readiness,” the spokesperson said.

This makes #3 in incidents happening at the White House. I still can't believe someone was running around the grounds for 18 minutes before anyone got him. Their "posture of readiness" should have been increased then.

There is a lot of hatred out there which is pretty scary. I know that this was also the case to some extent for Obama but this seems extreme. Trump is being attacked from every angle. The ironic thing is he is a true independent and would work with both sides on most things to get stuff done. But because he is an independent neither side will work with him. You even have a secret service agent saying she wouldn't take a bullet for him. Wonder how many more agents have the same view.

I'd say more than her, based on the length of time that guys was running around the grounds. That's a little harsh I realize, but sometimes you have to wonder.

Wonder if the press will let up a bit. Too easy to call Trump a liar and a traitor and then be shocked folks want to do him harm. If someone tries to do him harm, will the press wonder why? Will they say this is a trick by Trump/Bannon to garner support, similar to the Maddow tax return non-event.

Well the SS is sure earning their keep, thats for sure.

Why bother on a Saturday? Trump is in Flordia as usual no?

The reason both sides wont work with him to "get things done" isn't because he's independent. It's because the stuff he wants to get done is monumentally stupid.

This case sounds like an attempt at suicide-by-cop to me.

The jaded and corrupt washington establishment might call it stupid

But 60+ million American voters think otherwise

Trying to help the working poor in this country is monumentally stupid, if that is your belief I would agree. If building back our infrastructure or stopping the flow of unskilled workers when we already have a surplus is stupid, then you are correct.

They are? When someone enters the White House grounds undetected for 18 min? Dayum, those guys need a raise.

"declared his vehicle suspicious"

I am picturing a Gremlin with shifty eyes.

Give 'em some slack, dude. Those guys are overworked. Trump wasn't even around, which means they're spread thin too.

No, I won't give them some slack. If they are spread thin and overworked, they need more personnel. I don't blame the rank and file, but the management. The house needs to be cleaned, BIG TIME. This is simply unacceptable, period, end of story.

You sure? I bet a few million would like a do-over about now.

Maybe they have too many resources reserved for protecting the Royal Family at Trump tower. Can't be everywhere at once with our nation's limited resources.

Lol, yeah, we suddenly have "limited resources" now that O'Bama is no longer president.

Obama didn't tax the secret services by demanding they serve as his Praetorian Guard at his own private resort and/or skyscraper... as well as the traditional residence of the chief executive in DC.
Trump is exacerbating the security risks.

Partisan blinders firmly in place. You never heard about separate travel arrangements and vacations for him and Michelle? Riiight.

More Americans voted for Hillary Clinton. You think voters are so smart, do ya?

It's cute that you really believe he wants to do all this. For the good of the little guy.

My favorite quote in politics, ever, came from this message board. "I support Trump because he understands us in the heartland." This is a man who, literally, sits on a golden throne, atop a golden tower, with his name on it in giant golden letters.

Three years ago, every last one of these right-wing stooges would have said Trump is an elitist jackass who thinks he's better than everyone else. A man so out of touch with the plight of the little guy that it's almost sad. A man so tight with his Washington buddies that he can get sweetheart deals from Uncle Sam, paid for by you and me.

But an (R) went up next to his name, and they all got duped by the carpet bagger.

Man, remember when you guys thought he had a separate plane for his dog? :lamo

Sorry, you just suddenly reminded me of that.

I don't think hillary voters are stupid

But I think trump voters won the election and have a right to enact their agenda

Yes, the legislative process does allow for stupid things to be done. That doesn't make stupid ideas less stupid.
