I so love how we are constantly informed that only 'snowflakes' believe there is racism in America

Kids on winning robotics team told, 'Go back to Mexico'

As the group, called the Pleasant Run PantherBots, and their parents left the challenge last month in Plainfield, Ind., competing students from other Indianapolis-area schools and their parents were waiting for them in the parking lot.

“Go back to Mexico!” two or three kids screamed at their brown-skin peers and their parents.

This verbal attack had spilled over from the gymnasium. While the children were competing, one or two parents disparaged the Pleasant Run kids with racist comments — and loud enough for the Pleasant Run families to hear.

These kids aren't snowflakes
“They yelled out rude comments, and I think that they can talk all they want because at the end we’re still going to Worlds,” said team leader Elijah Goodwin, 10. “It’s not going to affect us at all. I’m not surprised because I’m used to this kind of behavior.

I find it rather sad that a 10-year-old kid is "used to this kind of behavior."

Who has ever claimed there is no racism in America?

well, it does kinda go wit da current political climate in tha US; you know angry WASP rage at anything & everything that aint WASP, or 'straight'

It is in Indiana the 'hate state' where Mike Pence as former Governor signed the hate legislation against the LGBT community & then back peddled a bit

yep, 'Make America HATE Again' ............ Indiana = for haters .......... but watcha gonna do? ..........

There are certainly plenty on the Right who would like to minimize awareness of it.

Huh? Not tracking that, either. As far as I'm tracking, it's merely said that there aren't significant road blocks created by racism to impede anyone who wants to work to achieve something.

Cool. Since we have the ability to quote people, I'd like to see it. I'm not a very old member but I've been active for a while and haven't seen anyone claim there's no racism.

This comment is sheer and utter nonsense with little if any relevancy to the subject.

I edited it. I have another thread talking about Ben Carson's statements that crossed up word use. -slavery +racism.

For example, this very thread makes my case. These kids were subjected to racist words yet they were the winners and they are the ones who are advancing because they worked hard and achieved what they wanted.

Seriously? He did that?

Sometimes I think there is more than a line that separates our two countries....in this case it's a matter of a couple of decades.

So if people surmount obstacles, then the obstacles weren't significant to begin with? Yeah, you are pretty much minimizing racism.

Nope. This thread is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Bitter losers said racists things but didn't stop these kids from winning and knowing they won it.

I'm no snowflake, but I think that BlackLivesMatter is a racist organization and that damned Don Lemon on CNN is sure as hell a racist.

As far as these Mexican kids go........that's more like anti-immigrant angst than racism, isn't it?

People rightly ask.......why am I paying for their education when they should be going to school in Mexico?

The main thing we can learn from this is that there will always be friction, fear, anger, hatred and acts of violence when competing races, cultures and ethnic groups mix.

When will we ever learn?

You are reacting as if you are a 'snowflake' by accusing others of being racist.

Obviously, you don't know that there are 'Mexican' families which have been in this country for as long as it has been in existence; in fact in New Mexico, Arizona and Texas there are 'Mexican families which have lived there longer than the US has existed. So you and others believe that American kids with Spanish names and skin a bit darker than yours "should be going to school in Mexico", even when they have zero connection with that nation.

Your sentence which says "races, cultures and ethnic groups" should never mix is found on many white supremacist websites. It is a denial that we are all human beings and that 'mixing' cultures, races and ethnic groups often provides a better resolution than segregation ever can.

Yeah, Mike Pence did sign one of those "Religious Freedom" bills in 2015
Gov. Mike Pence signs 'religious freedom' bill in private
The nation's latest legislative battle over religious freedom and gay rights came to a close Thursday when Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed a controversial "religious freedom" bill into law.

His action followed two days of intense pressure from opponents — including technology company executives and convention organizers — who fear the measure could allow discrimination, particularly against gays and lesbians.

Pence and leaders of the Republican-controlled General Assembly called those concerns a "misunderstanding."

"This bill is not about discrimination," Pence said, "and if I thought it legalized discrimination I would have vetoed it."

Senate Bill 101 prohibits state or local governments from substantially burdening a person's ability to exercise their religion — unless the government can show that it has a compelling interest and that the action is the least-restrictive means of achieving it. It takes effect July 1. Although the bill does not mention sexual orientation, opponents fear it could allow business owners to deny services to gays and lesbians for religious reasons.

Pence signed the bill during a private ceremony in his Statehouse office just before 10 a.m. Thursday. He was joined by supportive lawmakers, Franciscan monks and nuns, orthodox Jews, and some of the state's most powerful lobbyists on conservative social issues.

Why are you trying to make this political? These weren't adults, they were just kids... Kids identify differences in others and use it to lash out. Having been one myself, I can say with absolute certainty that that's just what they do.

Does it make what they said right, or acceptable... Hell no... But it doesn't mean that they are racist.

Who a kid truly is and what they believe, doesn't surface until sometime during their high school years when they become more mature. Until then, labeling grade school children "racist" over comments like those, seems presumptuous and a bit over the top.

You don't read the words posted by those you oppose, obviously. "While the children were competing, one or two parents disparaged the Pleasant Run kids with racist comments — and loud enough for the Pleasant Run families to hear."

I don't think any race is better than any other.

I just recognize the simple fact that humans are tribal--and mixing races, cultures and ethnicities does not work--ALWAYS producing friction, fear, anger, hatred and acts of violence.

Why is that simple fact so difficult for some to understand???

Face it. We'll all be better off if we're honest about it instead of lying.

Simply because your belief is bull **** and history shows us otherwise.

Of course I know that.

I just recognize that mixing the groups is always going to end in tears.

My bad... I read as far as "“Go back to Mexico!” two or three kids screamed at their brown-skin peers and their parents." and assumed that was the story.

Sorry about that.

Sorry, you really have to do better than that.

History does indeed show exactly what I said.
