The US has made a formal apology to Britain after the White House accused GCHQ of helping Barack Obama spy on Donald Trump in the White House.

Sean Spicer, Mr Trump's press secretary, repeated a claim on Thursday evening – initially made by an analyst on Fox News - that GCHQ was used by Mr Obama to spy on Trump Tower in the lead-up to last November's election.

Every day I think things will get better. But it doesn't. And we all know that Trump will continue to get his "facts" from places like Fox News, where this very false claim was made. I wonder when all of the Trump devotees who were orgasming in that other thread about how the Judge simply vindicated Trump and proved him right will react to this.

In a pathetic attempt to cover his accusation. Trump throws in the kitchen sink by settling baseless claims against one of our closest allies, not bad for just 7 weeks.

I sometimes think having a monarch has advantages, you folks have a leader who does not embaress herself or her country. I read the European press, and yes you are correct, most Europeans think he is a clown, he is in the job temperorarly, dont hold it against us.

Maybe in future it would help Rupert Murdoch's Fox News if they remembered Murdoch lost a prized newspaper here in the UK when it turned out his reporters had hacked a dead girl's telephone.

I'm not familiar with US media scrutiny but here, when a major news outlet was proven of such horrible behaviour it was forced to close. Will anything happen to Fox News or does the blame lie elsewhere?

The UK libel laws are much stricter than ours. If Trump was PM, and leveled a charge like this against Labor, the Tories would have dumped him fast, and he would find himself in court.

They would only send over Pence, at least he is sane and does not have a personality disorder. I would gladly take Pence over his boss.

No, in the upside down world in which I now find myself, I am now hoping for Pence.... two years ago, I would call a Pence presidency the nightmare scenario, but now he represents hope. I feel like a hostage; willing to do things I normally would not (like long for a Pence presidency), just to live another day, hoping tomorrow is the day I get rescued.

I think Pence will finish the term, but its going to take awhile to get there.
