Seriously you should!
And you're right, diversity isn't some magical thing that leads to success. Sure, having daily contact with people with vastly different backgrounds gives you a sense of understanding that you wouldn't otherwise have. And different backgrounds lead to different ways of thinking about problems which can lead to breakthroughs. But in the grand scheme of things it's probably overrated..... except..,
Think about it this way: Moving down the street can be stressful. Moving to a new country? In which you don't speak the language? That's a terrifying thought. Most people aren't willing to move cities. What kind of person takes that kind of a risk? What kind of person leaves everything they know and moves to a foreign land on a shoe string budget not knowing how they're going to make ends meet?
An American.
That's why we are who we are. We need the people who are so hungry for the American dream that they're willing to risk everything. And it's not something that we can replace from within. Not only do they add energy and vitality to our economy, but they force us to work hard and adapt. And if you're not pushing the envelope, you're falling behind.
We can either welcome the most ambitious from other countries here where they will contribute to America's greatness, or we can turn them away and let them compete against us.
The melting pot is no longer the American dream for many immigrants.
It has been replaced by people who want a smorgusboard instead
They come to America expecting us to accept them as they are rather than tryiing to become like us.
The example I often use is the Egyptian taxi driver who murdered his two teenage daughters for becoming too American
