US Attorney Preet Bharara has said NO to AG Jeff Sessions. Please note that Mr Bharara is at this time leading investigations of various DEMOCRATIC politicians in New York, so why has the Trump administration asked him to resign?

Preet Bharara, the Manhattan federal prosecutor who was told to submit his resignation along with 45 others on Friday, has no plans to do so — forcing a potential showdown with President Trump and the Department of Justice.

Mr. Bharara, whose office is overseeing a case against a top aide to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and an investigation into people close to Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City, has told several people that he did not hand in a resignation on Friday, as he was ordered to do by the acting deputy attorney general, Dana Boente.

He also does not intend to do so over the weekend, he said in conversations with associates, a move that could force the hand of the Trump administration.

The Hill reports: Brian Kolb, the New York State Assembly's Republican leader, tweeted his support of Bharara in the wake of the reports.

Could it be that the Trumpites are trying to impede investigations of Wall Street types; Bharara has prosecuted nearly 100 Wall Street executives and brought legal challenge to the four largest banks in the U.S. He also closed a multi-billion dollar hedge fund as part of an insider trading settlement.

What part of "this is a common practice of Dem and Republican administrations" are you people having trouble with?

Asking lots of folks to submit letters of resignation is not the same as saying that they will all be accepted and immediately forced to leave their jobs. Refusing to do what the boss asks of you is generally not a great idea. ;)

I am sure he has no good friends on Wall Street.

GOP wants to eliminate shadowy DOJ slush fund bankrolling leftist groups

When big banks are sued by the government for discrimination or mortgage abuse, they can settle the cases by donating to third-party non-victims. The settlements do not specify how these third-party groups could use the windfall.

So far, investigators have accounted for $3 billion paid to “non-victim entities.”

Maybe he is involved in this and has a job to finish for his fearless leader who is no longer president.

Yes, asking for resignations of those appointed by a prior President is "common practice" but something is fishy in this particular case.

Preet Bharara Says He Will Stay On as U.S. Attorney Under Trump
Nov 30, 2016

Preet Bharara, the United States attorney in Manhattan who has built a reputation as a fierce prosecutor of public corruption cases, said on Wednesday that he intended to remain in office under President-elect Donald J. Trump’s administration.

Mr. Bharara, who was appointed to the position in 2009 by President Obama, made the announcement after meeting with the president-elect at Trump Tower.

Mr. Bharara, 48, speaking to reporters after the meeting, said Mr. Trump had asked to see him to discuss “whether or not I’d be prepared to stay on as the United States attorney to do the work as we have done it, independently, without fear or favor for the last seven years.”

“We had a good meeting,” Mr. Bharara continued. “I said I would absolutely consider staying on. I agreed to stay on.”

Mr. Bharara said that he had already talked to Senator Jeff Sessions, Republican of Alabama, who is Mr. Trump’s choice for attorney general. “He also asked that I stay on, and so I expect that I will be continuing,” Mr. Bharara said.

Why the change? NOW - this is pure speculation but is it possible that some of those Wall Street types presently in the Administration see Mr Bharara as a just a wee bit too aggressive in pursuing financial cases?

from your link Both the Government Accountability Office and Congressional Research Service have concluded that the settlement agreements do not violate Congress’ power of the purse.

The DoJ was behind this. Not Congress.

IIRC, Bharara is also prosecuting Russian money laundering... U.S. Prosecutors Are Out to Crack Russia’s Crooked Money Machine

... and an international gambling ring (with Russia connections) operating out of Trump Tower How Did an Alleged Russian Mobster End Up on Trump's Red Carpet?

I suspect it's just incompetency in the W.H.

Trump had Bharara as a guest at the W.H. and personally asked him to remain on. But that was before.....

Hannity stated on his show a day before this firing that Trump should "purge" the Justice system of Obama appointees. The next day, Trump did just that, through the now known to be liar AG Sessions. Bharara was included in the firing order.

Who is in control of the White House? It's not Trump. It seems to be Bannon on most things, other inner circle men on some things, and Hannity on a few things. Trump seems to be unable to govern. He is used to being the boss of a company. Governing is very different, so he's lost, paranoid, and angry. He tweets a lot, though. And signs whatever Bannon gives him to sign.

He's been fired

Preet Bharara, the Manhattan federal prosecutor who was asked by President Trump to remain in his post shortly after the election, was fired on Saturday after he refused an order to submit his resignation.

Mr. Bharara’s dismissal capped an extraordinary showdown in which a political appointee who was named by Mr. Trump’s predecessor, President Barack Obama, declined an order to submit a resignation.

“I did not resign. Moments ago I was fired.

I'm suspicious of Preet Bharara, he's gone after a lot of iffy prosecutions to (in my opinion) grab the limelight. I think he's been waiting to run for office for a while, and a high profile break with the Trump administration would be a good way to set the stage.

Anybody remember the firestorm the media made when George W Bush released/fired the US Attorneys during his term??

They server at the President's pleasure. This really is a sensationalized non-story.

Classic.

"Yes...of course. I KNOW this is common practice by both GOP anbd Rat administrations...but THIS time its different..."

****ing ship of fools.

My recollection was Bush fired his own appointees, and subsequent investigation revealed it was all politically motivated.

It didn't end well.
