A Chicago man accused of murder who beat his case when prosecutors couldn't give him a speedy trial was killed after leaving Cook County Jail on Monday night, according to authorities.

Kamari Belmont, 23, was being held on separate murder and robbery cases stemming from a single night in 2015 in which he was accused of shooting one man during a robbery who later died and robbing another man a couple of hours later.

Gun grabbers will chalk this up to another case of "gun violence." I call it an example of the natural result of a dysfunctional criminal justice system.

well it proves the point that most of the people who are murdered by gun shot wounds are felons

Amazing.

Seemingly guilty as hell, he was let go due to the States attorney not bringing charges quickly enough under the state's new "speedy trial" law.

But it sounds like an hour later he was indeed tried, convicted, and sentenced - in a very speedy manner!

Yeah, I stated the "he was looking at me" defense facetiously.

But some idiot hood defendants would say crap like that to the cops, and it would make the press.

Haven't seen it for awhile, though.

Why can’t it be both?

Mayor Rahm Emmanuel will now pass a law against SUVs

Because if the guy had been in prison where he belonged he wouldn't have been shot.
How does that stop it being both gun violence and function of a failed system?

This isn't the movies. People should recognize that real life doesn't play out like a Hollywood.

I'm a complete and utter centrist on the death penalty. I can see arguments for both sides.

I don't condone this killing, which seems to be murder. But I also don't plan on losing any sleep over the fact our Kamari is no longer above the grass.

And they say the death penalty costs millions per year.
