European Parliament votes to end visa-free travel for Americans | The Independent

The European Parliament has voted to end visa-free travel for Americans within the EU.

It comes after the US failed to agree visa-free travel for citizens of five EU countries – Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Poland and Romania – as part of a reciprocity agreement. US citizens can normally travel to all countries in the bloc without a visa.

The vote urges the revocation of the scheme within two months, meaning Americans will have to apply for extra documents for 12 months after the European Commission implements a “delegated act” to bring the change into effect.
Goddamn it! As a frequent traveler to Europe this totally sucks for me! I felt like punching a wall after seeing this. Who is to blame for this?

This is pretty much expected. The more America ****s on its allies, the more they're going to start to bite back. It'd be better for everyone if the Donald spent more time cozying up to the EU than he does with Russia, and we built bridges instead of walls.

Seems pretty obvious if the European Parliament voted for it, it would be the fault of the European Parliament, eh?

Seems like it's the US's fault

Not Trumps fault and not just the U.S.

In 2014, the European Commission was notified that the United States and four other countries — Australia, Brunei, Canada and Japan — were failing to provide reciprocal, visa-free travel to citizens of some European Union countries.

Australia, Brunei and Japan have since lifted their visa requirements for all EU citizens and Canada will do so in December this year.

Had that truly been the case, Europe could have reciprocated in true like matter and banned visa free travel from some of OUR states, not the total as we did not ban the total of their states.

Besides, our refraining from visa free travel from the 5 EU countries is our fault. Only. The European imposed restriction is all the responsibility of Europeans, not ours. It can be a response or consequence of our policy, but not our fault.

Right?

What the article failed to deliver on is the primary question to be answered, the one as to why we have, the US, specifically not agreed to include these countries in our visa free travel. I would say that we probably should be rewarding these other parts of Europe, especially in places like a former Soviet Bloc country, Poland, with such reciprocity. I am not privy as to why we have not done so.

Probably Trump should break from the O bomb policies and move to change this attitude towards some of our fairly staunch allies in Central Europe.

Err kinda impossible, unless American passports are issued by each state and are unique. EU passports clearly state on the cover from which EU nation the holder is from.

Basically you dont have a Texas passport do you?

In the age of computers most anything along these lines can be accomplished with a little effort up front... so that puts your "impossible" to sleep, humanely.

We, too, are a union of semi independent states, similar yet different from the EU. In this manner the EU is somewhat nearer to our second original national compact. We maybe should, narrowly, come back towards you in this one, minor, instance.
