Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'[W:60]

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

I do not give one **** about what Donald J. Trump has to say about any of this.

He's gonna defend Sessions no matter what. I'd rather hear from a more objective party.

definition of perjury is this.

Perjury is the intentional act of swearing a false oath or of falsifying an affirmation to tell the truth, whether spoken or in writing

so in order for sessions to meet this requirement they would have to prove that he intentionally lied.
they can't so he couldn't be charged with it anyway.

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

'President Donald Trump stood by Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday, releasing a statement saying Sessions did not make any misleading statements under oath during his confirmation hearings, but that he could have been more accurate in his responses to lawmakers.

"Jeff Sessions is an honest man. He did not say anything wrong. He could have stated his response more accurately, but it was clearly not intentional," Trump said. "This whole narrative is a way of saving face for Democrats losing an election that everyone thought they were supposed to win. The Democrats are overplaying their hand. They lost the election and now, they have lost their grip on reality. The real story is all of the illegal leaks of classified and other information. It is a total witch hunt!"'

Sessions recuses himself from Russia investigations - CNNPolitics.com

Thoughts?

I disagree with trump

Sessions did say something wrong

He should have just said he met with russians twice and that would be as far as democrats and the lying liberal media could go

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

What part of that indicates "them" losing their grip. It all sounded quite obviously reasonable to me.

??

Do you agree with Lemon that Lynch recused herself?

Sorry, but that never happened.

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

I might buy it except the meeting in his office took place just a few days after Manafort was forced out because of his ties to Russia, and a few days after Reid sent a public letter demanding investigations about the Trump campaign/Russia ties. So it's a bit hard to believe that Sessions, who was an early and vocal Trump supporter and officially associated with the Trump campaign, coincidentally set up a meeting with the Russian ambassador and top spy and all they discussed was official Senate business that no one else on the SASC needed to know about or discuss with Russia.

What you think is "a bit hard to believe" has about the same relevance as a pissant's existence has to the fact that the moon is in the sky. That is...none.

I suggest you keep your wild beliefs to yourself until such time as you can prove something with fact.

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

From what I can tell, it is much more understandable that Flynn would contact the Russians at that point than Sessions. No other Senator on his committee found a need to meet with the Russians during the campaign, so how could him not doing it be considered "negiligence?" What official business did they have to discuss?

I heard that also ... that no other Senator on the Armed Services Committee met with the Russian Ambassador.
That's interesting, but maybe a better question is if there were other foreign ambassadors who had met with Sessions.
He claims he had met with dozens.

Then there's Claire McCaskill, also on the Armed Services Committee for 10 years, who said she never ever met with the Russian Ambassador but she did ... twice.
Her resignation should be forthcoming.

I see, so like several people instead of talking about Sessions, we're going to divert to BUT CLINTON!!!! But if you want to go there, Sen. Sessions demanded that Lynch recuse herself over that meeting.

Interesting. We're giving our opinions here, and having a debate, which is the point of a forum called Debate Politics. I gave mine in a respectful tone, and in response you throw around insults like a little kid. Noted FFR.

Also, obviously your opinion has the same relevance as mine, none, so why aren't you taking your own advice and keeping yours to yourself until such time as you can prove something with fact? I'm confused...

FWIW, I responded to this comment, which was this person giving his opinion, not backed by facts: "I don't yet think that it looks as though Sessions contacts were anything other than business as usual. He was not circumspect in not mentioning them. But the intent of the questions were obvious and the legal and legitimate answer seems to have been 'No'."

Should JoG keep his mouth shut, too, until he can prove something with fact or is it OK if because his baseless opinion agrees with your opinion, also not based in fact? I just need some clarification here when it's OK to offer our opinions. Thanks.

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

Do you have a defense of Sessions?

Yeah, he's talked with ambassadors of other countries, including Russia, just like just about everybody in Washington.

Russia didn't steal the damn election from you. That's so sadly and patently absurd. You guys look so weak and pathetic in this.

But that will help us in 2018, so carry on.

That's interesting, but maybe a better question is if there were other foreign ambassadors who had met with Sessions.
He claims he had met with dozens.

The relevant point to me is pretty simple. He claims that he met the Russian Ambassador, twice, in his role as Senator. The question is whether the public should accept that assertion at face value given all we know, what was happening at that time with Trump/Russia accusations blowing up, Manafort resigning, no known business of the ambassador relevant to the SASC, etc.

So the question is if he met with the ambassador about official Senate business, what was that business. Seems like a reasonable question before we accept "I had ONLY my Senator hat on that day" without question.

Then there's Claire McCaskill, also on the Armed Services Committee for 10 years, who said she never ever met with the Russian Ambassador but she did ... twice.
Her resignation should be forthcoming.

First of all, I don't believe Sessions needs to resign over this. Second, she wasn't asked about meetings in a confirmation hearing under oath and given weeks to prepare her responses on a subject she KNEW would arise, and there is no known connection between McCaskill and a campaign during which we now KNOW the Russians tried to influence in favor of Trump. So the context is sort of important.

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

Don't see what Sessions said was incorrect.

Watching folks jizz their pants over this is nothing but comedy gold.

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

Yeah, he's talked with ambassadors of other countries, including Russia, just like just about everybody in Washington.

Well, that's false. Apparently of the 26 other members of the SASC, none found a need to meet with the Russian ambassador.

Russia didn't steal the damn election from you. That's so sadly and patently absurd. You guys look so weak and pathetic in this.

I guess if I claim that then it's a relevant comeback, but I haven't.

But that will help us in 2018, so carry on.

We'll see I guess, but the controversy is growing more legs every day so I don't think we've heard all there is to know quite yet.

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

Shifting the burden of proof. it is you making the assertion that he did something wrong then it is your job not our job to defend it. evidently you don't have anything otherwise you wouldn't be shifting the burden of proof.

His answer is based on the question asked.

In Context: What Jeff Sessions told Al Franken about meeting Russian officials | PolitiFact

even that liberal loving polifact says that he didn't perjure himself.
his answer was based on the question asked.

trying to divorce his answer from the question is what is messed up.
you can only perjure yourself if you lie about the questioned asked.

IE: did you know that person B was going to steal the jewels.
no I didn't.

is not the same as Did you know person B.

had the question been at any time did you speak to the Russian government and he would have said no I didn't then that would have been perjury.

Perjury is the intentional act of swearing a false oath or of falsifying an affirmation to tell the truth, whether spoken or in writing

the other part is you have to prove that he did it intentionally.

Kid, I didn't shift the burden of proof. He said under oath he never met with the Russians while working for the Trump campaign, yet he did. Those are both facts, the investigation will decide if it's perjury.

It's not growing legs except within the far left. The rest of us have long known that politicians talk to ambassadors from other countries.

We'd be far more concerned if they didn't.

I think that's factually incorrect about only those on the far left having growing concerns, and you're using a VERY narrow definition of the controversy. Sessions' meetings with the Ambassador are sort of a sideline to the big picture issues here.

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

Kid, I didn't shift the burden of proof. He said under oath he never met with the Russians while working for the Trump campaign, yet he did. Those are both facts, the investigation will decide if it's perjury.

FRANKEN: CNN just published a story alleging that the intelligence community provided documents to the president-elect last week, that included information that “Russian operatives claim to have compromising personal and financial information about Mr. Trump.” These documents also allegedly say “there was a continuing exchange of information during the campaign between Trump surrogates and intermediaries for the Russian government.” Again, I’m telling you this as it’s coming out, so, you know.

But if it’s true, it’s obviously extremely serious, and if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign, what will you do?

SESSIONS: Senator Franken, I’m not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians, and I’m unable to comment on it.

That wasn't what he was asked, so his answer is still factually accurate. He didn't meet with any Russian, operative or government, in his capacity(as a surrogate?) with the campaign. Does being a surrogate mean you work for the campaign?

And also, the CNN report Franken is referencing was fake news story about pissing on a bed.

Yeah, it's pretty weird. Suddenly the Left wants to start treating foreign powers as if we are at war with them...

Thoughts?

It was probably a good idea for him to recuse himself to shut down noise.

Re: Trump: Sessions 'did not say anything wrong'

So much for the kinder, gentler, presidential-like Trump of last Tuesday night.

The truth hurts, doesn't it? After the speech of optimism on Tuesday what did the left do after sitting on their hands, attack another Trump Cabinet member. With all the problems facing this country and the optimistic agenda the President put out on Tuesday night, you don't see a problem with this course of action by the Democrats? I really don't give a damn if anyone dealt with the Russians prior to the election, why do you? What possible damage could that have done since Hillary lost the election and Obama lost the Congress without any help from the Russians.

By all polls Hillary was projected to win and based upon those polls anyone in the Trump Administration meeting with the Russians served no special purpose as he had no power to do anything and was not likely to win the office. After the election, Obama was a lame duck so meeting with the Russians if it happened affected what?

What a none issue and a mountain out of mole hill by a group of people still throwing a temper tantrum

Bingo! To begin with there are the professional and personal relationships Trump and staff have/had with Putin and Russians that existed before, during and after the campaign and election.

In fact that is something that bothers me about what Sessions said yesterday. He said he would recuse himself from investigations that have anything to do with the Trump campaign and the Russians. The investigations surrounding Trump and possibly members of his staff span a timeframe that is greater than the period of the campaign. With Trump we know that it is possible and likely that investigations regarding Trump and Russians in some cases have nothing to do with US politics, but focus rather on Trump's business dealings with Russians, in some cases up to the present.

As to working with ambassadors it doesn't seem to be a priority for the current State Department. From what I've read, at a time when much international hand holding needs to be done due to the transition to a new administration - and the new administration sending mixed signals daily along with sputters, farts, and chaos - the State Department under Tillison is damn near invisible.

ye the democratic senator in the same group did. good for them they didn't feel the need but others did including a democratic senator who then lied that she didn't meet with them.
oops.

made up controversy goes away. if anything it turns people off to the ones complaining.
