The White House is considering direct military action to counter North Korea

In a dramatic shift from traditional policy, an internal White House review on North Korean strategy revealed that the option to use military force or a regime change to curb the threat of North Korean nuclear weapons was on the table, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

This review comes at the heels of a report claiming President Donald Trump believes the "greatest immediate threat" to the US was North Korea's nuclear program.

Recent provocations from the Hermit Kingdom, including the ballistic missile launch in the Sea of Japan and the assassination of Kim Jong Un's estranged half-brother in Malaysia, may have provoked this shift in the policy that have many officials and US allies worried.

"North Korea just stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. It won't happen!" Trump tweeted in January. Several weeks later, North Korea conducted its missile test.

Trump needs a war. This is why he was proposing a huge increase in defense when we were at peace. He is going to start a war. We just need some country to volunteer to be Trump's international scapegoat.

Say whatever you want about Don Cheeto, but he's a Master at BS'ing the Gullible

War with NK has never been OFF the table. Now with that said, there is no way we would instigate a war with NK. The South Korean casualties would be in the tens of thousands if we did as well as risking an out right war with China (and Russia) in the end.

So much for Trump's refusal to reveal his plans to our "enemies".

Trump needs a war.

If Trump was truly needing a war for a distraction, there are less casualty inducing wars he could start. ISIS comes to mind before NK.

We will not be engaging in war with North Korea.

This is ridiculous.

Who says the white house is considering military action against n korea?

Give us a name

Wait ... are you sure ISIS is still around?

I thought they closed shop on November 9th

I believe the use of Military Force against N Korea has always been in place.

Perhaps you could remind the people in the Progressive Bubble that the Korean War never officially ended.

We are still at war with North Korea and as such the threat of resuming the war has always been on the table. That said the reality is it ain't happening. It would be disastrous for South Korea and risk war with China. China may dislike Kim almost as much as we do but they would defend him.

The threat to Seoul is too great

Kim has enough artillery to destroy the city and kill millions even without using nuclear weapons

Thats been the problem we faced for the past 30 years

As is the custom of late for the left, this is a rather hysterical response to something that always remains on the table. The object is far more likely to be to get China involved to persuade the little NK fat head to refrain from further testing of ICBM's in defiance of the UN and the international community. China has it's own problems with regard to defiance of international law and NK's behavior might be a welcome distraction for them, but that can reach a point of diminishing returns for China in short order.

It's too dangerous. As much as I'd love to see that fat ****er knocked off his pedestal, there's too much to risk with S. Korea being in range of NK arty.

As much as I've always been opposed to such a thing, perhaps the best way to deal with Kim is to get him directly. Hit his palace with a huge bomb. But then who would take over? Someone worse? The CIA needs to get in touch with the man who would be next in the line of power and convince him to come over to our side.

Kim is unstable

If he thinks his grip on power is slipping he could order the destruction of seoul anyway

It would be difficult to assissinate kim

The attempt is more likely to fail than succeed

I don't think so. His fat face is in the news every day. He's out and about. I have to say it would be ridiculous of the US gov't if they didn't have a spot on him at all times.

Hell, a Marine sniper team could get him.

The South Koreans are fine with Americans getting nuclear bombed. I'm glad that Trump is willing to do something about ACTUAL nuclear threats to our security, unlike liberals who focus on fake national security threats.

Anything is possible

But security is very tight in n korea

So the might of the U.S. is held at bay by the might of N. Korea? No wonder we have so much trouble defeating angry teenagers in the M.E. who have no formal military behind them.

Thats not true

This is a problem shared by two great and close allies
