One Distraction Coming Up - The White House is considering direct military action

The threat to Seoul is too great

Kim has enough artillery to destroy the city and kill millions even without using nuclear weapons

Thats been the problem we faced for the past 30 years

I think that overstates the threat. Conventional artillery does not kill millions. And I'm sure the U.S. has plans to bomb the guns you are talking about before they could fire for very long.

Kim has shown signs recently--having his half-brother murdered with nerve gas, staging that ballistic missile test just as the Japanese Prime Minister visited the U.S., using anti-aircraft guns to execute defense officials he suspected--that he is unsure of his hold on power. In that situation, it may be a good idea to float rumors about possible military action to rattle him even further. The U.S. may have reason to believe Kim has internal enemies, and this might be part of a plan to undercut his leadership.

Yes it does if you have as much as the n koreans do and on an area as densely packed as seoul

The loss of life could easily top a million if chemical and biological weapons are used

The White House is considering direct military action to counter North Korea

In a dramatic shift from traditional policy, an internal White House review on North Korean strategy revealed that the option to use military force or a regime change to curb the threat of North Korean nuclear weapons was on the table, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

This review comes at the heels of a report claiming President Donald Trump believes the "greatest immediate threat" to the US was North Korea's nuclear program.

Recent provocations from the Hermit Kingdom, including the ballistic missile launch in the Sea of Japan and the assassination of Kim Jong Un's estranged half-brother in Malaysia, may have provoked this shift in the policy that have many officials and US allies worried.

"North Korea just stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. It won't happen!" Trump tweeted in January. Several weeks later, North Korea conducted its missile test.

Trump needs a war. This is why he was proposing a huge increase in defense when we were at peace. He is going to start a war. We just need some country to volunteer to be Trump's international scapegoat.

Say whatever you want about Don Cheeto, but he's a Master at BS'ing the Gullible

Waters said that she is bothered that Putin might be invading Korea.

You folks sure have a handle on current events. More chicken little crap. Oh my, the sky is falling.

If biological weapons were used, yes, it could. I don't know if North Korea has any such weapons, but if so, it would be reckless to use them. I am sure the U.S. response to that, probably from the air, would be overwhelming, and would destroy that country's navy, air force, air defenses, ballistic missile facilities, and a great deal more. And it would mean the end of Dear Leader and his regime.

From what I have read, North Korea's air defenses are not very good and could be neutralized by U.S. forces pretty quickly. Once that happened, every military installation in the country would just be a target for guided bombs and cruise missiles. I think Kim is well aware of this, and however evil he is, that it makes him afraid to go too far in provoking the U.S.

At 45,000 people/sq mile Seoul's population density is nearly twice that of New York. It is one of the most densely populated places on the planet. Even a small artillery attack with convention weapons would lead to massive casualties.

A leak? It must be true.

Everything here...just doesn't seem right.

And it was news to me we were at peace.

One would think that the 6 wars that he inherited would keep him busy.

I know that. I am also sure that the threat of using long-range guns to kill people in Seoul for a day or so, before those guns could be bombed, is not nearly enough to protect North Korea from the U.S. Our military planners have been thinking about how to deal with that artillery for a long time. A few of the guns are very well protected, and one of the reasons the 30,000 lb. penetrating bomb was developed, apparently, was to destroy them if need be.

Well I remember someone saying we should come home, but some people started screaming Cut-n-Run ...

... any idea who that was?

I don't know either. I know that it wasn't me. Certainly one should not walk away from the gains of the Iraq war. Afghanistan is different-a bad war for no reason and we should have pulled out years ago.

We can't pull out! Who's going to protect the Taliban's poppy fields?

I can't tell by the image but it looks like our troops are actually harvesting the poppy plants on behalf of the Taliban as well.

Of course kim has wmd's like chemical and biological weapons

And in his death throes he would not hesitate to use them

Think it's just coincidence that, now that Afghanistan has been "liberated", the world is suddenly addicted to opiates?

The n koreans have a massive inventory of artillery weapons

And those shells are unstoppable once they are in the air

Thank you for providing my daily laugh. So now I know what my son was doing there. He lied to me.

Point being? They aren't pointed at America. They're pointed at one of our closest allies.

Imagine a liberal trying to derail his own thread

Wait, let me get this straight, so today we care about our Allies?

Did Donald get that check in mail already?

It's not clear that North Korea could use biological agents very effectively in war. And this country should never allow the possibility an adversary might use them, by itself, to deter it from using military force when necessary for our national security. It would be disastrous for the U.S. to let North Korea produce ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads.

Well, this story IS nothing but a distraction...but it's not coming from the White House.

What we have here is you posting a link to a story from MSN...about a story from the WSJ...about some idea that military action against NK is on the table. Now me? I like to get the story from the horse's mouth, so to speak, but I cannot because I won't give money to that rag...the WSJ. I also don't like to get my news from a source that gets it from a source that likely got something or other from an unnamed source. Frankly, the WSJ is hyperbolizing a non-issue...ALL Presidents say that military action is on the table...no matter what issue they are talking about. Even that "great" President...Obama. And MSN, in my opinion, is just trying to make a couple pennies on clicks by piggy-backing that other rag's story.

So...bottom line...just more fake news.
