Trump to propose $54 billion in cuts to 'most federal agencies' - CNNPolitics.com
Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump's first budget proposal will look to increase defense and security spending by $54 billion and cut roughly the same amount from non-defense programs, the White House said Monday.

"This budget will be a public safety and national security budget," Trump said at a bipartisan gathering of US governors at the White House Monday, vowing substantial increases in defense, law enforcement and infrastructure spending.

The majority of "lower priority programs and most federal agencies" will see a reduction in their budget as a result of the proposal, according to an official at the Office of Management and Budget speaking with reporters on background.

The official said those cuts will come through "unauthorized programs" and places "where there is duplication, where consolidation needs to occur."

Notice how the substantial money for defense gets washed away in the headline by CNN.

"Win or don't fight." Yep.

Reminds me of the famous words from Red, quoting his friend, Andy: "Get busy livin', or get busy dyin'. That's goddam right."

These federal agencies can accomplish far more with much less. That much we all know.

The Congress has been making the military take things that they don't even want. I guess the people that make weapons still want those taxdollars.

"The new defense spending bill includes $120 million for tanks that the Army has repeatedly said it doesn't want."

Let's see.
That's NO NET cuts in spending: Military Increase offsets Other decreases. (maybe, but note likely)
and Huge Corporate and Income Tax Cuts.
Sounds great!
But MATH sticks out like a sore thumb.

Typical MSM dishonesty creating a 'fake news story' by corrupting the actual fact with a headline--they do this deliberately knowing that many if not most people never read past the headline.

Great point! That's exactly what CNN did here.

"Fake News" is a Goebbelsian 'Big Lie' term created by Trump to stop/parry the media from pointing his outrageous Conspiracies and Lies.
ie,
After being Mr Birther for 5 YEARS, Trumpov, in 30 seconds, said it wasn't so, and.... it was Hillary's Fault!
Whoa!
Even Goebbels would be stunned by the audacity of that classic.

Everyone who disagrees is "Fake", "Lying," or "Crooked", when in fact Traitor Trumpov is the Crook/pathological liar.

Yep. The headline is deliberately misleading. But, to their credit, they DID state it accurately in the first paragraph. Most of the fake news creators would bury the extenuating fact to that headline deep in the story where it would be much less likely to be seen because most people at most read a few paragraphs of a news story.

The quote and the headline are accurate and yet it is fake news?

The US needs a mass shipment of Pablum for the mass number of babies it has.

Faux outrage everywhere

Drudge was doing that in 2007, maybe earlier.

What exactly did CNN do wrong? The headline is accurate, as is the story.. Trump will cut all "non-defense" federal agencies to fund a bigger war machine. And you dont put so much money into a military unless you are going to use it.

Fake News is extremely real and extremely practiced by many in the MSM. It can consist of fabricating a story out of thin air, but more commonly it includes:

1. Misleading headlines as CNN used in the illustration in the OP.
2. The photos selected to accompany the story.
3. Omitting extenuating facts.
4. Including non sequitur information to detract from the story or to emphasize to the reader that the subject of the story is objectionable.
5. Burying extenuating facts deep in the story where they are less likely to be noticed.
6. Wording the facts in a way to deliberately mislead the listener or reader.
7. Inserting sidebars to insinuate that two unrelated things are connected.
8. Etc.

In other words it is everything that honest and ethical journalism is not.

They all were. The issue with media goes back several years.

That was basically my point. They are for profit companies, and in many instances they are parts of conglomerates which will use the media arm to advance the interests of other components.

Perhaps but without evidence such an assertion isn't too credible. Drudge is one of the most heavily trafficked websites on the internet and I'm pretty sure most, if not all, news organizations visit it frequently to see what the news of the day is likely to be. Drudge seems to have the story ahead of most of the others, and he provides links to all sides of every story. Like RCP, it a very good site to get all the perspectives on a story instead of the slant a particular news source intends you to get.

Wow

You just described Spicys press room.

Nope....Sorry, the headline was misleading to the story, as it wasn't an accurate portrayal of what the budget contained....Want to try again?

What was inaccurate?

And how long should the title be, the entire article?

The first sentence in the article mentions the increase to the military budget, the very very first sentence, it was not buried deep in the article.

Does the budget not have cuts to most federal agencies? Yes or no?

The MSM is now doing what the fringe blogs and talk radio have always done.

Trump just says crap for effect without any consideration of the possible repercussions.

Maybe there's a connection?

Godwined in 6. Not your best effort, internet.

It was inaccurate in that it deliberately gave a different impression than what actually was happening

That isn't exactly what it says.

It says that he is going to cut off programs that are fragmented and duplicated.
The department of education wastes 50b a year alone in fragmented and duplicated programs.

The federal government has about 500b or so doing the same thing.

So there is plenty of room for the cuts.
Also the money isn't just going to the military it is going to infrastructure programs as well.

You will believe about that whatever you wish. But when the MSM cannot be trusted to give us honest information--all the information--and not to twist that information in a way to mislead the public, we are pretty well screwed and those who want control of our hearts and minds have pretty free rein to direct us any way they want us to go.

I'm not apposed to Cuts in Waist ... so let's see who comes First in America First.

All I know is most of my Adult life, this country has placed a lot of money in a Jet that doesn't have any return in Value.

My idea of Return in Value, is Education and Infrastructure ... we already have plenty of Jets.

This...

For three years, the Army in numerous Congressional hearings has pushed a plan that essentially would have suspended tank building and upgrades...

...is a bad idea.
