George W. Bush demands answers on Trump and Russia | abc13.com

Former President George W. Bush said Monday "we all need answers" on the extent of contact between President Donald Trump's team and the Russian government, and didn't rule out the idea that a special prosecutor could be necessary to lead an investigation.

Cue conservatives rushing to disown Bush in 3....2....1

He's obviously and understandably still furious over Trump's comments about him and Jeb during the campaign.

I still don't know why Trump went that direction.

It's still hilarious how Dems want to ignore the truth in the leaks, and only focus on the leaks. When you rig your own primary, it's empty to try to claim "rigging" by anyone else.

Like Donald Trump did through the entire campaign?

I know it's given you guys a much-needed participation shoulder to cry on, but Russia didn't beat Hillary. That's absurd. Hillary beat Hillary. She's the absolute worst of humanity, and you chose her.

Did you listen to the interview? The nuances were somewhat different and not so negative.

Bush has already identified himself as standing with the GOP Establishment. I'm not surprised to hear him talking like this. But what should be on people's mind is...why didn't Bush speak out against Obama for 8 years? I mean, the GOP were totally against Obama...right?

Or WERE they?

I doubt seriously that he "demanded" anything. While he said we should have a more welcoming immigration policy and that it should follow the law, he also supported an investigation regarding the Russian issue. He never demanded ****.

No, that's why Boehner got canned, and Trump won the primaries; and ultimately the Presidency.

In an interview on NBC’s “Today” show, Bush said he would trust Senate Intelligence panel Chairman Richard Burr to decide if a special prosecutor is necessary. But, Bush says, “I think we all need answers … I’m not sure the right avenue to take. I am sure, though, that that question needs to be answered.”

Bush also defended the media’s role in keeping leaders in check, noting “power can be addictive.” He says: “It’s kind of hard to tell others to have an independent, free press when we’re not willing to have one ourselves.”

"Needs to be answered" vs "I demand".

You're going to split hairs that fine?

Here's what he said:

Hardly a "demands answers" statement. Wow, what a surprise! Another misleading headline!

As the old saying goes, "Gotta love 'em. Can't bury them in the backyard..."

I liked your post because it's fact-filled. But absolutely YES to your last question. Perjorative dialogue needs to be called out.

Bush acted different toward the media during his administration and paid heavily for it, but that was HIS style. Don't trying laying that on Trump.

You were sure correct about the Conservarusskies rushing into this thread and tossing Bush under the Bannon bus.

Comrades BURR and NUNES have already compromised themselves as 'No Intelligence' chairs .

It took Bush-43 less than six weeks to come out in public with trump, versus nothing for eight years on Obama.

The trumpistani deflection and denial will be over ten on the Bannon Richter scale on this one .

Hellooo!? He's writing a book...

Since you bring up Boehner, it seems GOPs have a strong tendency 'to get religion' when they retire or are in a position like McCain and Graham.

Too bad for trumpistanis that Boehner spoke the truth on ACA, Bush spoke the truth about the MEDIA and don't forget Senators Dole and Simpson stating their greatest regret was the Reagan tax cuts .

Hellooo!? He's writing a book...

Is that the latest trumpistani deflection, Bush's book? :lamo

Bush's timing is far more related to the clear and present danger Bannon and his censorship brigade and henchmen represents to this Nation .

I still remember when my conservative friends said he will go down as one of our greatest presidents.

Now is the time for Trump to release Bush's connections to the Saudi Arabian terrorists.

Um, can you please at least try to follow the exchange? You attacked rocket88's description of Bush's statements as being a demand for answers. I pointed out that you're playing a stupid semantic game to split hairs that finely given what Bush said - "We need answers...."

Your reply to that does not, well, reply to that. What does how Bush acted toward the media have to do with the accuracy of rocket's description of Bush's statements as a demand for answers?

What is perjorative about rocket characterizing a statement that "we need answers" as demanding answers?

Definition of perjorative: "expressing contempt or disapproval."

1. Calling "We need answers" a "demand" does not express contempt or disapproval for the statement that we need answers or the person who made the statement.

2. Rocket appears to AGREE with Bush that we need answers on Russia, so why on Earth would rocket contempt "express or disapproval" for Bush's statement that we need answers anyway?

So far as I can tell, the biggest issue anyone can think to bring up is the use of the word "demand." Pretty weak, I think.

You mean the country Trump left off of his ban?

Yeah, that's the one. Unlike the haters who supported everything Obama did: from arming terrorists in Syria to warrantless eavesdropping on the American people, Trump supporters don't blindly support everything he says or does.

I suspect that Bush is going to end up emerging as one of Trump's toughest critics. Why? It's simple. Trump from 2001-2008, when he was a registered Democrat, spent the majority of time bashing Bush, often calling him "the worst president ever". Add to the fact that Trump basically destroyed Jeb Bush's chances at the presidency, and you have obvious bad blood between the current GOP president and the former GOP president. Keep in mind that Bush Jr, his father, his wife, Jeb, and his mother all didn't vote for Trump. I'm sure Bush hasn't forgotten all of the negative things Trump said about him in the past.
