Re: FCC Reverses Net Neutrality Laws

Because **** consumer rights, right? A lot of these "small ISPs" are actually just subsidiaries of the larger ones, they just want to extort more money from you.

Re: FCC Reverses Net Neutrality Laws

3 things that effect people rather directly that will hurt the hell out of the GOP.

  1. Killing net neutrality
  2. Undoing Obamacare and people lose their healthcare
  3. Going after recreational pot in states that legalized it

This is just trump throwing another tire on the dumpster fire that is his administration.

Can you even begin to understand we who support this, believe it will help consumers? And we do so after weighing all the evidence and facts?

No...

Re: FCC Reverses Net Neutrality Laws

Hurting, blue collar America elected this buffoon expecting him to stand up for the little guy, but instead he's decided stroking corporate **** and ****ing over the average American are his top priorities. SAD.

I understand your position, I've read the posts, the articles for and against the Obama version of NN, and I disagree with you. I believe you honestly feel that was the right path, and you arrived at such a conclusion based on the merits that you felt were most worthy. I just feel that your conclusion was not the correct one. I can however accept and understand how you arrived there while still disagreeing with you.

That you cannot in turn make that statement says everything about you, and none of it flattering.

Yay for businesses screwing people over! Yay for less transparency!

Actually my company just left a big ISP for a smaller ISP for 10X the speed, way better customer service and a lower price, so while they may be resellers of Verizon Fiber, it's better for us to deal with the reseller than Verizon directly. At our old ISP we were nothing but a speck in their budget so they didn't care about us, while at this new ISP we are their biggest client and we have direct cell phone numbers to account managers.

I'm not trying to flatter your nor insult you. I simply believe you don't understand the issue at all and are mistaken as you will find out when your internet bill starts getting tiers and packages and domains are blocked from you.

I understand you, for you , anyone that does not agree with you is stupid. This is arrogance of the highest order.

Re: FCC Reverses Net Neutrality Laws

ISP's don't have to tell us what we're buying? Well **** it then, let's apply it to every product and service.

-Car makers shouldn't have to tell you anything about a car when you buy it.
-Take those pesky nutrition labels off of food packaging.
-Credit card companies don't have to tell you your interest rate
-Computer parts won't have to list speeds or stats
-Cellular providers won't have to tell you how many minutes you get
-Amazon can stop describing products. If you get something you didn't want, though titty.
-Medication doesn't have to list side-effects
-For god sake take the damn warnings off of alcohol and tobacco. Those are annoying
-Airlines won't have to tell us about extra baggage fees

I think there's too much transparency in the world. Only the US government should be able to spy on everyone and know everything about everybody. The rest of us don't need to burden ourselves with knowing what we're spending our money on or how businesses are ****ing us over.

Please let us know when this happens. I'll most likely be waiting forever ;)

As long as he rounds up all the foreigners and sends them to Mexico, all else is forgivable.

1. Understood by less than 2% of the population. Meaningless.
2. Obamacare is hurting far more people than it's helping.
3. Potheads vote Democrat anyway if they can find the motivation to actually vote.

I thought the biggest issue without net neutrality is the throttling back of content providers that may not be associated with the various ISP. So that for example if DP did not provide payment to Verizon then Verizon could slow down the download speeds of DP compared to other websites that did. Given that in most regions the actual delivery of ISP is controlled by 2 companies (excluding sat) the ability of the ISP to "control" the internet could be huge. Amazon could be regulated to second tier if the ISP received a payment from a competitor making Amazon download speeds to frustrating to use.

Or at least that is what I thought was one of the biggest reasons for NN

This is why most of the comments on this thread are largely emotional so far.

Why would computer part companies not want to tell you the stats of their product? They pretty much use that stuff as a way to brag, you know.

It wouldn't affect DP. We aren't content producers that sucks up 30% of the entire internet like Netflix does, so honestly it only really affects them, because they didn't want to build their own infrastructure like Facebook and Google does.

How do you help consumers by taking away their rights? I have a very hard time believing you have.

It is - particularly considering that ISPs hold a monopoly in many areas of the country. There is only 1 ISP where I live (Time Warner aka Spectrum) so I'll have to remit whatever extortion money they ask of me or lose access. The solution the opposition to NN has to this problem is to suggest that those of us who live in such areas pick up our lives and move somewhere else.

I don't understand why that should preclude them from communicating their network management practices, don't consumers have a right to know that? I did the same thing myself a month ago.

Re: FCC Reverses Net Neutrality Laws

This is something that I applaud the Trump administration for, but honestly I would expect it from any Republican President/controlled FCC.

FCC reverses net neutrality ISP transparency rules | Computerworld

We knew this was coming. I'm one of those that opposed the move (as a consumer). We will see if my cost to maintain the same level of access goes up or down.

I thought they were going to do more that just ditch transparency?

If it were crappy and unreliable, why would they want you to know?
