Popular Domestic Programs Face Ax Under First Trump Budget

So If I pay more into the system, is my payout going to get higher?

If not, why not?

I already pay close to 50% of my income between state, local, and federal taxes

I have maxed my contribution to social security every year for the last 25 or so....

I would rather not pay into it at all...and invest the money myself

then you need a financial planner.....make more pay more...congrats on maxing out your social security tax, obviously if this is indeed the case, you are doing quite well

Everyone would rather not pay taxes on anything. There's a reason the government has lots of guns.

Why are people not allowed to opt-out of social security? Why are they forced to be part of a program that is designed to help old people? Maybe they just don't want the help from the government and would rather invest that money themselves. Why is that bad?

was social security designed as a tax?

Or was it designed as something else, and changed over the years by greedy congressmen because they wanted to use the funds just sitting there

I already pay "my fair share" of taxes.....I don't need or want to pay any more, unless it benefits me

And in this case, you guys want to take more money out of my pocket, and put nothing back in

Thanks, but no thanks....

I don't know the layout of all these programs, so I can't comment much on the feasibility of the proposal to 'cut' them, but I can say that doing so would be a great way to lose the next round of elections.

Honestly I don't think Trump is all that concerned about the next election. I think his motivation is to do good and reducing government spending is definitely doing good.

Why are people not allowed to opt-out of social security?

Because it's a tax. You can't opt out of taxes.

Why are they forced to be part of a program that is designed to help old people?

Why are people who walk everywhere forced to be part of a program designed to help drivers?

Maybe they just don't want the help from the government and would rather invest that money themselves. Why is that bad?

It's not. They are free to spend their money as they please and their time in prison if they don't want to pay taxes.

It makes no difference to me.
