Texas teachers advising students of immigration rights[W:255]

Re: Texas teachers advising students of immigration rights

Yes, it does, and it needs to stop. It's also a separate issue from illegal immigration, as the tech workers are here by invitation.

This high paying jobs in tech, yes...we agree, but the middle class working man jobs in construction, trucking, and alike are hitting those of us that just can't afford to be hit....And WE are who stood up this last election....IOW, WE want our wall.

The idea of a border fence or wall never was a course of action. All it is is a way to convince people that the government is doing something about illegal immigration when it really isn't.

San Diego is also a good place to look.

Yes, and thanks to our elected legislators, the same ones who value high speed rail over water projects, California has gone the same way.

Yes, and it is really too bad...Cali is a great place, if it weren't so damned expensive to live in....

You think they're wrong, I think they're wrong, but they still have a right to protest.

Yep...No argument there.

Go after the wrong that is within, and the flow will stop. Take away the magnet, and the iron filings will fall away.

But we still have to sweep up the shavings...That is what is being protested now....

He ran on the highly questionable idea that a wall will stop illegal immigrants, and that Mexico would pay for said wall. The wall is simply a symbol of doing something about illegal immigration, not a practical way of dealing with the problem, but then, Trump isn't big on practical solutions anyway.

We've been told for decades now what the "practical" solutions are, meanwhile, nothing done, and more and more coming in, gangs out of control, crimes happening, people getting killed....ENOUGH! Time for our solutions....

While Trump may not have any wealthy donors, he is himself a wealthy man who hires foreigners.

Not anymore, HE doesn't....

Re: Texas teachers advising students of immigration rights

An awesome city pops up.
That's why people with your political views are in the minority, in the state houses, the house, the senate and the white house.

People, as a whole, reject your views, your values, your dreams. Those that share your views, they move away from the HELL holes like Cali, and infest other areas, and ruin them. Austin used to be a small, albeit "weird" town, now it's an over crowded, over priced city run by people that disregard the nations laws, sovereignty and bankrupt whatever they touch.

Think I'm full of ****?

https://empowertexans.com/around-texas/austin-increases-unaffordability-with-new-budget/

Austin City Council approved the budget for the 2016-2017 fiscal year last week. Surprising no one, the $3.7 billion budget lacks any serious consideration for the city’s rapidly increasing unaffordability.
Although the new budget does reduce the tax rate to 44.18 cents per $100 valuation (down from 45.89), residents can expect to pay more due to skyrocketing property appraisals. That’s because – similar to most local governments across Texas – the council refused to adopt the “effective” tax rate.
This is on top of what taxpayers will pay for the looming “mobility” debt package, if voters approve the bond proposition in November.
We’ve previously covered how the average homeowner in Travis County pays the 3rd highest total property tax bill in Texas, which includes the cost of all local governments combined. The City of Austin is making this problem even worse.

Re: Texas teachers advising students of immigration rights

This tough stance on immigration will be the liberals' Waterloo.

The overwhelming majority of Americans want comprehensive and thorough vetting of immigrants, and an end to illegal immigration being ignored in liberal states.

As a friend of mine said:

"Don't the liberals want fair wages for all? What do they think illegal immigrants are getting? Fair wages? Why not vet them, bring them in legally, and pay them a proper wage?"

There are a few posts that are being awfully personal in here. Let's keep to the topic and not make personal commentary about other posters alright? Good.

You've been sold a bill of goods. The wall isn't the solution to illegal immigration. It might slow down the ones sneaking across the border from Mexico, but they'll still find a way across. 40% of the illegals came by air already.

Yes, and it is really too bad...Cali is a great place, if it weren't so damned expensive to live in....

It is a great place to live, and one of the reasons it's so expensive is that it's a great place to live. The coast, in particular, has some of the highest priced real estate in the country, and the reason is obvious: It's supply and demand. The Central Valley is a lot cheaper, but we have to put up with the summers here.

Yep...No argument there.

If the jobs go away for illegals, the shavings will go home. The reason they're here is the employers look the other way, the government has been looking the other way, and no one is willing to employ any practical solution. The wall is simply a ruse to make the citizenry think that the government is willing to end illegal immigration, when the fact of the matter is nothing has been done since the Eisenhower administration.

Not anymore, HE doesn't....

Really? He's hiring Americans now for his Mar a Lago resort? Are you sure about that?

Why not indeed? First, make they go home and apply at an American consulate, then, if they've been working and paying taxes in the US, let them come legally.

Try getting that idea past the employers of illegals.

Very true. I really never had much of an opinion on the topic. Being a Floridian...I probably should start to formulate one. Especially since agriculture is huge here. I think I need to read up on the topic. I mean you want your food cheap...which means you need cheap labor to produce the food. But then it isn't exactly a cheap job and I'm betting there is a good chance that it could be done with machines as well.

Oh, it's not just agriculture. It's construction, it's service workers, illegals are doing a lot of jobs in the USA, and doing them cheaper than legal residents/citizens would, and they don't dare to complain. That's why the government has been looking the other way ever since the Eisenhower administration.

I suppose that doesn't surprise me.
