Windsor public school board forbids student trips to U.S. because of ‘unsafe’ political climate

The Windsor, Ont. public school board is cancelling all student field trips to the United States because the current American political climate is considered too “unsafe” and unpredictable to permit cross-border travel.

“Paramount for us is student safety … we really don’t know what will happen to our students at the border,” said Clara Howitt, a superintendent with the Greater Essex County District School Board.

A “handful” of trips have already been nixed, with no school travel to America being allowed for the month of February.

If Clinton had been elected, cowardly Chaffetz would have started impeachment hearings the next day.

trump would have been in court in every close state.

From my reading, this is more about exposing the kids to possible border crossing issues, rather than an inherent danger within American society.

I'm not sure if this is facetious (I suspect not), but I highly doubt a GOP Congress would have given Clinton free reign. The Clinton's would have likely cut better deals than Obama, but they'd still have a GOP Congress to contend with.

It would be more in reference to potentially having a student or adult supervisor being prevented from being able to enter the US, leaving that person at risk being left at the boarder crossing if the entire trip did not turn back.

It doesn't seem the issue is related to crime, as crime has been worse in past years in Detroit and evidently they allowed field trips in the past to the US. Seems they are upset with our political climate and it's likely a political statement regarding us having a Republican president again. I've been to Detroit, I've also been to Windsor and have a close friend there. Downtown is fine, it's just some of the slums that are dangerous.

It doesn't seem the issue is related to crime, as crime has been worse in past years in Detroit and evidently they allowed field trips in the past to the US. Seems they are upset with our political climate and it's likely a political statement regarding us having a Republican president again. My feeling is that they think new political climate will just make Detroit worse, and by Canadian standards Detroit is still very much a hellhole. The other possibility is that they are afraid of students or staff not being able to go because of things like Trump's travel ban.

I mean i've run into problems just getting into Canada as an American, because the border agents thought a car of 19 year olds (going to drink) was suspicious. That's not exactly a national security threat as Trump is claiming. His hysteria puts border agents on alert, so i'm pretty certain any kids from this international school who look brown are going to get stopped. Border agents have a ton of leeway. I wouldn't make the effort to enter this country period right now unless i'm white. Which is exactly what the deplorables want

1 dual national student, on the bus is refused entry. The bus goes back.
A small number of Canadians, dual citizens, presenting Canadian Passports, from those listed countries have been denied entry.
Clearly this does not make the news down south, but it makes the news here.
