'The worst call by far': Donald Trump badgers, brags in Malcolm Turnbull call

Re: Trump Hangs Up Phone on Australian PM

I've yet to see where its been proven that Trump actually did this. So....what evidence?

I have seen reports by persons that did not want to be named. ;)

The only point I've made in this thread is that Trump's hanging up on Turnbull has not been verified. Exploit somebody else's posts please to bang your partisan drum.

Stop. Please. This is indefensible. Please don't try to "handle" it. Seriously, right, left or in between, this is a truly serious matter, one of global importance. A United States president cannot simply blackmail/coerce the leaders of allied countries and then hang up on them because we are trying to be a bully. This isn't a negotiation merger for profit. This is a national policy statement against a long-term ally of the US.

Please, look at the reality of what is going on, and the catastrophic ramifications it may have. This isn't a republican vs liberal thing. This is an American survival thing. Our country is in terrible trouble. Please don't close your eyes to it.

From what I have read the event was caused by the Omama commitment and Trump's saying he would cancel the agreement.

There can be no question that hanging up on one of our most dependable allies is at best rude beyond belief. Whether it was appropriate or not, is hard to say without knowing what was said how. I have not seen a transcript or even a source that seems reliable. Maybe you have one?

Well, in my worst nightmares I never believed that any president of the US, even Trump, would talk to the leaders of other nations as if they were his subordinates, and inferior ones at that. This literally is terrible.

Well, let me remind you LBJ didn't simply talk tough, this president of the USA assaulted (by Lib terms) the Prime Minister of Canada.

At the height of the Vietnam War, Prime Minister Lester Pearson visited President Lyndon Johnson at the White House. Pearson gave a scathing speech one night about the war, then appeared at the White House the next day to confront a livid Johnson. As Martin describes it, LBJ grabbed Pearson by the shirt collar, lifted the prime minister off the floor and shouted, "You pissed on my rug!"
CBC News - Indepth: Canada-U.S. Relations
...

As for these "refugees", as I recall, are people Australia will not take in and has them housed on some island. They are from the countries on the temporary ban list.

Why should we take these people? AND WHO DO THE AUSTRALIANS THINK THEY ARE TO TELL US WHAT WE SHOULD DO?

Obama made a lot of idiotic agreements and moves... Gitmo, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, Manning, Bergdahl... Trump can tell the PM precisely what he thinks, in terms even Libs can understand.

If Australia thinks so much of these people, why are they separated from Mainland Australians? Why don't they take them in? We've done more than our fair share.

And... what is wrong with straight talk between leaders?
...

Then there is this... between Pearson and LBJ:

"Dressed in a formal black suit and diplomat's homburg, Pearson was discomfited on arriving at the ranch to discover the president in a cowboy suit. A barrage of television cameras awaited the two men, whose meeting began poorly when Johnson introduced Pearson as '[British] Prime Minister [Harold] Wilson.' There was no time during the two-day meeting for the kind of leisurely, wide-ranging discussion of international developments that Pearson enjoyed. Instead, loaded into three cars, Johnson, Pearson, the 'press,' and the 'ladies' embarked on a whirlwind tour of the ranch. The president dispensed drinks liberally and swore loudly. Dinner was a hurried and informal affair; steak and catfish on the same plate.
H-Net Reviews

Of course, LBJ was a known racist, used for language all the time, and treated the PM of Canada like a servant.

My... the Left has really become ass-rash sensitive.

No, Trump was rude beyond belief. Australian troops are fighting and dying with Americans across the globe, particularly in Iraq. and Trump slams the phone down on one of our staunchest allies?? Is he out of his ****ing mind? He is completely dismissing countries that have supported us with their voices and their blood for decades. And the American people are supposed to say, "okay, Trump says too bad, so sad" and ignore this egregious dishonesty? My god, is he trying to make America into a lying, isolationist, nationalistic and fascist piece of crap??

This is not America. It's not legal, it's not constitutional and it's not what the majority of Americans want.

Re: Trump Hangs Up Phone on Australian PM

Been to the real thing while I lived on W 22nd St and also visited the Arch in St. Louis which I'd expect you've gone up onto the top deck to view...a nothingness of flat land called yep, Kansas.

You must have gone to the fake arch, because the one I went into (yes, I went to the top there, too) had a great view of the Mississippi River on one side and St. Louis, Missouri on the other. Or did you just forget what state you were in?

Of course Ellis Island was all about those white folk from Europe. Different today eh.

Yeah, those Kikes, Wops, Krauts, Pollocks, Dagos, Greasers, Micks, and other assorted white detritus. How things have changed, eh?

ROTFLOL...

President Donald Trump 'slammed Malcolm Turnbull over refugee deal, accused him of trying to "ship the next Boston bombers" to the U.S. then HUNG UP on their hour-long call after just 25 minutes'

Trump phrased it so even the world's dumbest person could understand.
...

He is defending our nation against "enemies foreign and domestic". He took an oath to do so. He takes it seriously. Unlike Obama... for him they were "words, just words".

I think not only Turnbull, but the remainder of the world is realizing:

1. He means what he says.

2. He's not going to waste his time with BS.
...

3. My bet is Australian troops are clapping. Why? They realize they'll now be permitted to fight to win.

4. We have shed the brunt of blood and treasure. Where is the respect from them/Turnbull? Who are they to tell us we have to take in risks to Americans? In short... **** them.

5. Trump is fulfilling his oath of office. We don't have a suicide pact with the rest of the world. Let Germany, or France take these folks in. Or Australia! It's a massive country, and these people are just off their coast.

This is America.

It is legal. 100% so.*

It is Constitutional. 100% so. *

It is what the majority of Americans want. Polls show it... even those from the slanted and perverted FlameScream Media.

Nice try... try again.

* Only the "unaware and compliant", the tragically uninformed would make claims like yours. Libs in other words. Are you Nancy Pelosi by chance?

Easily provoked person in the Oval Office hung up on Australia's Prime Minister half way thru a planned hour long call

I wonder if the stress is already getting the guy. Combine this behaviour with what he said this past Friday during a call with Mexico's President, during which he seems to have threatened to invade Mexico.

Little wonder the developed nations are beginning to wonder about stability in the world

Our Charlie Chaplin president.

So Australia fought with us in Iraq, big deal. It was for Iraq's benefit not ours, so Australia can send their refugees to Iraq. Please explain why we should accept 2,500 refugees that another country has rejected for safety concerns.

Well said. Trumps own badly damaged personality is going to bite this nation in the ass and we can only hope that the next time he does it - and he will do this again and probably far worse - that it does not take us down the path to war.

And I fear that it will.

This man is the most dangerous president to hold that office in a very long time and we can only hope his time in charge is going to be brief.

After reading some things it SOUNDS like Obama made an agreement with Australia to bring to America a certain number of Australias illegal immigrants and trump thought that sounded like a stupid plan and balked at the idea, the Australian PM got a little pissy back and it escalated from there.

And I agree...it IS a dumb idea for the US to take on ANOTHER countries illegal immigrants.

Our Charlie Chaplin president.

Chaplin was a great actor... a great director ....and a giant in the development of the motion picture as an art and business form. Comparing the sick and damaged egomaniac Trump to Chaplin does the Little Tramp a major disservice.

Being overweight with small hands and a bad haircut will make one get all pouty and throw temperature tantrums.

Not to forget about his badly damaged personality and mental instability.

I thought it obvious that the comparison is to Trump as Charlie Chaplin would have played him.

Thank you Jack for that clarification.... I just woke up and perhaps the subtlety of your excellent observation flew right over my head. I did not make the connection between THE GREAT DICTATOR with the little Jewish barber and Trump. But its a great one.

That is the story going around. When you look at the individual events, however, they usually seem to turn out to be quite a bit less unacceptable than the medial response would have it. I certainly do not think Trump should have been elected. But I also think one should deal with the reality of the things and not with the severely biased reporting.

I fully expect Trump to be an image of Caligula, insane, paranoid, clutching onto power, distrusting those close to him, by the time this is all said and done.
i fear you are right....

I forget...is it Australia or New Zealand that bans refugees for life for coming to their shores illegally?

We're taking a whole mess of refugees off the Aussies' hands because they don't want them. No props for that.

My colleague Greg Miller and I heard about this conversation from senior US officials who have been briefed on some of the exact quotations from the conversation, and shared that information with us.
So we hear this from somebody who heard it from somebody who heard it from somebody who heard it from Trump.

Anyone remember playing "telephone" as a kid?

There is certainly that to think about. But, I suspect that he is being watched with that in mind. It does not seem probable that he could pull off a power grab given the checks and balances in place to prevent just that. But it should be monitored carefully.

I always figured that Australia was a nice place, but they are pretty strict about their immigration law. So strict that they wouldn't even let this folks into Australia proper.

Err watch the news much?... other than Fox News?

Re: Trump Hangs Up Phone on Australian PM

According to the President of Mexico, the supposed bragging threatening Trump etc. did not do that. He categorically denies that Trump threatened him in any way. And that really REALLY does not sound like Trump.

Didn't stop the AP from pushing it as a story anyway. These people have no shame.

Of course he did, what world leader would admit that the president of the most powerful country on earth talked to them like that.

Re: Trump Hangs Up Phone on Australian PM

I just had a scathingly interesting thought. I have wondered who would be leaking this stuff to the press. Maybe it is the Trump team doing it to sort of, you know, encourage the MSM to make even bigger fools of themselves? Trump knows by now that they won't do any advance checking to determine whether it is fake or real. If it looks like it could hurt him, they print it.

Naw. . .

He wouldn't.

Would he?

I wonder.

But I would be so tickled to find out that was the case.

I think its more likely that people working in the Whitehouse are seeing the most unhinged man we have ever had for a president and are leaking this stuff like a sieve so the rest of the world can see what a walking personality disorder we have for a president now. Its the same reason there were all kinds of leaks at the end of the Nixon years.

Just like every woman who denies that her husband beats her is lying to avoid further abuse.
