Trump makes unannounced trip to honor fallen Navy SEAL

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. (AP) — Assuming the somber duties of commander in chief, President Donald Trump made an unannounced trip Wednesday to honor the returning remains of a U.S. Navy SEAL killed in a weekend raid in Yemen.

Chief Special Warfare Operator William "Ryan" Owens, a 36-year-old from Peoria, Illinois, was the first known U.S. combat casualty since Trump took office less than two weeks ago. An 8-year-old American girl was among 30 others killed in the operation on an al-Qaida compound, and three other U.S. service members were wounded.

Trump's trip to Delaware's Dover Air Base was shrouded in secrecy. It was not on the president's daily schedule. A small group of journalists traveled with Trump on the condition that the visit was not reported until his arrival. He was joined by his daughter, Ivanka.

I haven't heard just where this SEAL was killed, but his death suggests that special forces are attacking jihadists right in their strongholds. That's not good news for the jihadists. Recently, about 100 more of these rats were killed near Sirte, Libya, in an air attack that included two B-2'a flying from their home base in Missouri.

This very brave man honored his country and his family. I'm glad we once again have a President who respects the servicemen who are out there protecting the U.S.

Good for Trump. Anyone that sends troops to their deaths had better be able to look their loved ones in the eye afterwards. War isn't a video game.

Afternoon Matchlight. I understand this young man volunteered for a number of tours in the Middle East.

I understand this mission produced a lot of intelligence that will assist in thwarting future attacks and more. Was it Mattis boarding a plane this morning to head overseas? If so, I wonder if it has something to do with the mission.

Of course this was a photo op because the president needed to look good. I don't know Trump so hard to say of it was also a genuine act.


After having a president take a bunch of selfie at a human rights leaders memorial services like it's a night at the bar the level of decorum expected from our presidents had been set low.

He was killed on the recent mission in Yemen.

We scored a 14:1 kill ratio.
 
This appears to be the first service member who has died as a result of an order Trump gave. It is good that Trump went and met the family in person. A President needs to be reminded that their choices, even when they are correct, can have heavy consequences.

I have a feeling the raid did Not go that well.
Not sure we'll ever hear all of it.
But as usual, a US aircraft Malfunctioned. Seems like Every Time!
From Carter's Iran raid, to Blackhawk Down, to Osama Raid, to now...
A Dead Helicopter/aircraft.
Can't our contractors or mechanics build/maintain something that will work for 2 hours?

Ivanka (the Real "First Lady") looked Smashing BTW. Perfectly put together for the occasion.
