Rex Tillerson Confirmed as Secretary of State

Which is why Murkowski and Collins are NO votes for DeVos.

Keep an eye on Heller and Flake, both up for reelection in 2018 .

What? Reading this you'd think they found DeVoss at the Mar a Lago new year party, serving drinks. That couldn't be further from the truth.

Aside from that violating the Constitution rights of the people, its a great idea.

How so? If money = speech, then there is no such thing as free speech...and those with more money have more speech than those who don't, which is antithetical to our system of government.

You obviously have no idea.

She is no more qualified to be sec. of ed. than a typical server would be. She has no experience with public education, and lacks a basic understanding of its elements. She is starting from scratch. The ONLY experience she has ever had in education has been her advocacy for "school choice". For ****'s sake... she doesn't even know the difference between "growth" and "proficiency", and those are the measures that have been the bedrock of government action for the last two decades, through its NCLB initiative. If you don't know that, you haven't paid attention.

She is even more unqualified for this position than Carson is for HUD, or Giuliani for cybersecurity... or even Perry for Energy.
She is the poster child for the Trump Amateur Hour reality TV show.

They can't get it because they have already made up their minds to hate Trump and anybody associated with him. There is zero effort made by most--there ARE exceptions--to be honest, fair, or objective about anything or anybody in the Trump Administration.

That's a laugh riot right there. After 8 years of Conservatives, including and especially Trump, questioning Obama's legitimacy and making obstruction their governing model.

I'm anxious to watch this guy work.

Regardless of politics, this injection of political outsiders into the cabinet is fascinating.

Think Tillerson or trump will call Putin and stop the Ukraine War, which has spiked under trump's reign?

How about another ridiculous statement like the Iran stupidity; hard to imagine what it was before Mattis calmed it down.

We now have an admin of neophyte idiots .

One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Rex Tillerson Confirmed as Secretary of State

The U.S. Senate voted Wednesday to confirm ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson as the next secretary of state.

The vote in favor of President Trump's pick for the key cabinet post fell mostly along partisan lines, with Republican lawmakers who have voiced concerns like Senators Marco Rubio, John McCain and Lindsey Graham joining fellow GOP members in affirming the nomination.

Tillerson needed a simple majority — 51 senators — for confirmation. The final vote was 56 in favor, 43 against.

Rex Tillerson Confirmed as Secretary of State

Were there any doubts?

I think that were other choices that would have been just as good as Tillerson w/o having the baggage that brings with him (reminds me too much of Pres. Obama's picks). But I also think that Tillerson can do a very good job as SoS. Timewill tell...

Tillerson's ties to the oil industry and Russia undermine his argument that he will serve in the best interests of the country and not himself. You don't work in that field for decades and not leave owing people favors.

Great negative spin job!!! You could also just easily say that "You don't work in that field for decades and not leave having people owe you favors.", but you made the choice to go as negative as possible...

I have seen no baggage.

The CEO of Exxon becoming Secretary of State.

What a nightmare.

Right on. Time to hand out these to the entire administration...

When do you think tillerson and trump will tell Putin to back off of his Ukraine war, which has spiked since trump came in ?

Such as Sen. Corker

When did the Russians grant our SoS the authority to tell them to do anything?? We can discuss, negotiate, recommend and even threaten, but we don't just walk up to a sovereign nation and tell them anything unless they've just surrendered to us.

Obviously I do not know why you do, but they are both more than capable of doing the jobs.

i have my doubts about tillerson, and devos definitely not qualified

Do you mean like we did with Iran today, but not Russia ?

The new Secretary of State may have some cleaning up to do if this story is accurate. The Washington Post reported:

It should have been one of the most congenial calls for the new commander in chief — a conversation with the leader of Australia, one of America’s staunchest allies, at the end of a triumphant week.

Instead, President Trump blasted Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull over a refu*gee agreement and boasted about the magnitude of his electoral college win, according to senior U.S. officials briefed on the Saturday exchange. Then, 25 minutes into what was expected to be an hour-long call, Trump abruptly ended it.

Australia is an exceptionally reliable strategic ally. Australia's Prime Minister did not deserve the kind of abuse cited in this story. Australia and Australia's people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect given how much Australia contributes toward promoting common interests with the United States.

I saw at least a portion of her confirmation hearings.

I did not get the impression she knew a damned thing about how to educate.

Try reading her biography sometime. You might change your mind.

Say what?

Rex Tillerson is the original self-made man, and a symbol of the American Dream. He studied engineering at UT Austin, went to work for Exxon in 1975, and rose up, through merit, to become the CEO. He's been married to the same hometown girl for 30 years, taught Bible study and been the National President of the Boy Scouts.

In his career, Tillerson has negotiated multi-faceted, multi-million dollar deals across the globe, with foreign leaders of all shapes and sizes. That's exactly what we need for a Secretary of State. Under his helm, Exxon has been very successful.

His years in the oil patch, running operations all over the globe, will be an asset. I get that some folks just think oil is evil, but it absolutely is the economic linchpin. Someone who understands that and has the respect of foreign dignitaries, like Putin, is vital.

Tillerson is a bold and sound choice, a welcome change from the limp wrist of Kerry.

I have seen no baggage.

What would be your definition of someone with baggage then? Who can you think of as secretary of state who would have baggage?

I simply adore the same friggin' people who did nothing but **** on Obama (or, really, any Democrat) now just saying all these people deserve a chance, man. It's like a switch flipped.

The indefatigable Liberal Avenger role suits you, Mr. Obama and the Democratic party could have no better defender.

I am interested as well, but a little more skeptical. Trump talks about draining the swamp, but he is surrounding him self with the top 1% and creating a swamp of ethical conflicts of interest.

Tillerson is an expert in foreign relations and in smoothing over difficulties. Slamming him for being 1% is like slamming pro athletes for being 1%. There's no sin in excelling - only to you losers, it seems that way.
