European Union president trashes Trump as 'threat' [W:49]

Who the hell cares what Putin thinks? Do you check under your bed for him every night? Are you hoping to harpoon him, Ahab? The rest of us don't want to be shanghai'd onto your Putin quest.

Speak for yourself and the rest of the Fifth Columnists.
There are a lot of people concerned over the influence Putin appears to have over Trump.

after brexit the EU is feeling very insecure these days

Trump threatens Brussels by being able to cut a unilateral trade deal with the UK

With Trump designating Iraq one of the seven deplorable nations, things could be a bit dicey for the US advisers working with Iraqi forces to expel ISIS from the city of Mosul.

I'm fairly sure Trumps travel ban isn't playing very well in the MENA region, and it's probably the greatest propaganda coup ISIS could have ever imagined.

Did the people you are talking about plan on coming to the US in the next 90 days?

Protectionism and isolationism.
It's been what, a hundred and fifty years? since that was even a strategy, never mind an effective one.

You call tariffs protectionism and isolationism. Why is that not the case with our trading partners who levy tarrifs on imports from the U.S.?

What the Trumpanzees don't understand is that the rest of the world will get used to working around the US. It'll take big adjustments, sure, but adjustments will be made.
Trump's stomping around because he doesn't have a big stick.

That's true. Obama whittled the big stick down to a match stick.

because the rules of globalism are heads everyone else wins, or tails America loses

Which partners? I'm talking about reneging on in-place agreements. Tearing up NAFTA, for example, and putting a 20% tariff on all imports from Mexico. Crap like that doesn't inspire confidence, doesn't make the US look trustworthy.

No it makes us look strong and in the drivers seat. A position we've actually had but never enjoyed for well over two decades, and several administrations, all too willing to give up American leverage in the form of political and personal wealth. We've always had the leverage, but never used it; well, now I am sure Trump is going to do exactly that, and good for him.

Tim-

Oh please, if I have to tell you then you haven't been paying attention for 8 years. If I did take the time to tell you, you wouldn't accept it anyway.

We aren't viewed as trustworthy now. So that isn't an issue. More important that we claw back some of our jobs.

It's a negotiating tactic. Shake the crap out of it, ask for the moon, then find common ground. It might not be particularly stately, but stately hasn't worked for a long time. Let's see how everything plays out over the next several months.

As the business world says, "Don't tell me about the nine months, just show me the baby."

I won't judge until these things evolve into their final form. This is just the gamesmanship phase.

WOW Three things

1) Trump is the THIRD president in a row who really has had no love for old Europe, so this should not be shocking.

2) This is proof that Trump has the globalists running scared

3) Trump is the one who gets where the world is going, and is trying to build towards it

What say you?

Clearly the EU president is a clown, given how he's let the refugees overrun his "nation". He needs to STFU and worry about his own problems.

Abd this is supposed to get a better deal than Bush Sr. signed?
What you're hoping for is co-operation from your corporations. Good luck with it.

Well, you're trying to claw them back from GE and GM, not Mexico and Canada.

Not all world leaders are going to like trump personally

But who cares?

They will respect him more than the spineless golfer in chief who talked tough but then backed down

The not taking BREXIT seriously is another nail in the coffin. Really though signs of mismanagement from the top is all over Europe...maybe they are focusing on outside forces because looking at their own failures is too painful. The prospect of people like Le Pen winning and completely putting the EU program into shreds is very real now, THAT is what he should be focused like a laser beam on. But then again the reason people like her are winning is that the work of the current bosses is so poor, in part because they are not smart enough to make good choices...Obama being a prime example over on our side of the pond. The obvious fact that these idiots think so highly of themselves that they feel free to constantly roll out lectures on how the rest of us should be thinking and feeling does them in as well, as what can ever be done with clods like that?

This is what the media, the establishment both in the USA and in Europe, the permanent political class, and the gullible left simply don't get.

Trump has been playing them all for the fools they sometimes are ever since he tossed his hat in the ring. They all take him literally in what they would mean if they said the stuff he says and make every little remark into a huge monumental big deal. The 62 million who voted for him took him both seriously and figuratively but not literally once they figured out he never means it literally when he tosses the bait out there. It is all metaphor for what needs to happen.

He tosses the bait out there for the gullible to grab and run with knowing they will sooner or later trip up and expose their passionate hatred and intent to destroy him as well as what they really think about all of us who refuse to march to their orders.

And as his poll numbers went up and more and more people saw the reasoning behind it and began to rally behind him, he vanquished 16 very well known and capable Republicans and the presumed queen who was expected to be easily annointed on inauguration day.

I would recommend that the anti-Trumpers spend less time trying to destroy him and more time understanding what it is that he actually means. What he actually means, so far he is doing.

Yep, he is. Trump has decided to shake up the world by being "unpredictable". What he has been in his two weeks in office is reckless, dismissive of the rest of the world, and ignorant of the chaos the president of the US can cause with flippant remarks and talk about starting trade wars and a new arms race.

Our allies are wondering if they can trust us, and apparently many of them are deciding that they cannot. I do not blame them one bit.

Putin must be absolutely thrilled.

ROTFLOL...

OK... grace us.

Why is he reckless?

How is he dismissive of the rest of the world?

Wasn't Obama the reckless one?

Didn't he:

1. Fail to secure a Status of Forces agreement in Iraq?

2. Fail to note the threat of ISIS? What he called ISIL, and a JV Team.

3. Draw a Red Line in Syria, and abandon it, confounding our allies.

4. Let China take over the South China Sea?

5. Deplete our Military?

6. Defanged our military in Afghanistan?

7. Leave our borders open to invasion?

8. Withdraw missile defense from the former Soviet countries?

9. Destroyed the healthcare system in America with his idiotic ObamaKare?

10. Lie about Benghazi?

11. Run guns to Mexico which killed Americans, and a US border agent?

12. Lead from behind, which means not lead at all in the ME... pissing off allies there?

13. Fan the flames of racial tensions.

14. Create a poisonous attitude towards police; 11 who have been assassinated?

15. Paid ransom money to Iran.

16. Traded terrorists for a deserter.

17. Commuted a treasonous moron.

Obama is an idiot Leftist who let the ME burn, and did nothing domestically or internationally to make the world better or safer.

Put all of his eggs in a rickety Clinton Corp wagon.

Never cared about good government

Helped Trump to win by mocking both him and his supporters

I would put it this way. The SEVEN EU Presidents are more akin to the Seven Dwarfs. Instead of Happy, Grumpy, Doc, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy and Dopey we have .... roll of 28 drums:

The President of the European Parliament
The President of the European Council
The President of the Council of Ministers
The President of the European Commission
The President of the European Court of Justice
The President of the European Central Bank
The President of the European Court of Auditors

These little men might 'trash' Trumps shoe laces but they cannot reach much higher than that. Anyway Grumpy and his six mates would have made a better job of running the failed monstrosity that is the EU.

How anyone can spin this split as a positive for the US in the long run is simply amazing.

After a long run of stasis as the world order rots any movement towards reform is grounds for cheering, whether it ends up working or not.

I am sure the EU will work thru this. But throwing allied countries under the bus only damages relations with the US
